Biography

Before the Exabyte Incident, Manabu was a quiet, withdrawn Otaku, driven by a desire to create his own manga. He didn't talk a lot, and he spent most of his time drawing.

...And then came powers, and summoning things from the army of strange creatures he'd been drawing.

Seeing his creations come to life has given Manabu a dose of self-confidence, and interacting with Zatana has helped, too-- she advises him to be more outgoing, and it's hard for him to argue with her.

Powers

Manabu can bring the numerous creatures he's drawn to life-- indeed, some of them seem eager to do so even without his effort. A swarm of tiny fishlike creatures, swimming in the air, can surround him and protect him by deflecting attacks or eating right through restraints. He also can call his mount, a being like a winged horse made of shadows. (His creations are all monochromatic-- he's sketching in pen or pencil, after all.)

...Or he can call upon his vast legion of warriors, singly or in great numbers, and they'll obey him, whether it's for fighting or helping do the dishes. They can appear almost anywhere he can see, and can hit hard and fast. His only real problems with his powers are those occasions in which they become too eager to help...

Personality

Manabu is still an Otaku, at heart. He thinks that this new world he's entered is amazingly cool, and will fanboy at well-known superheroes occasionally, but also charges into action with great enthusiasm. Around attractive (and his standards aren't terribly exacting) members of the opposite sex, however, he trips over his own tongue a great deal, Yumi being a major exception. (The implications of this may well develop in play...)

Relationships

Manabu has a terrible crush on Ibuki Yamaki, but he's never told her this, or talked to her very much. (It's not hard to pick up on, however, if you're in his immediate vicinity when she's near.) Otherwise, he's got a younger sister, Aria (10), and his parents (unusually) both work in the business world... he's not entirely certain what they actually do, and they've never seen fit to enlighten him or his sister.

Complications

Motivation: Thrill of Adventure

Power Loss: Manabu's creations can be attacked, meaning that anyone with any attack power-- or even a thug with a club-- can attempt to Counter any of his powers by hitting them first.

Volunteerism: Occasionally, something Manabu creates will manifest without Manabu's express command, usually to do something that Manabu wants to do, but won't.

So, what do you do for a living, anyway?: Manabu's parents are gone a lot, but people "from work" turn up a lot, apparently checking up on Manabu and Aria... or something like that...
