Make an Item - Equipment Generation Example

We will use our Steven character from the character creation example to make a new weapon. (See Character Creation/Make a Character.) Steven has craftsmanship ability with a modifier of 2.

1. Design the weapon

We decide Steven is making a "machete". The mass of the machete is 0.5 kilograms, worth -350 CP. We add 900 CP because the machete's (6 power minus 3 = a difference of 3x300 = 900 CP.) The CP for this weapon so far is 550 CP. We add 1000 CP for sharp sharpness for a total of 1550 CP. We use 200 CP to get 1 meter reach for the machete, making to total 1750 CP. In other words, Steven wants to make this machete:

2. Find the Difficulty Modifier

Because the machete's CP is 1750, Steven's difficulty modifier for making it is 17.5.

3. Find the Success Modifier

We start with Steven's +2 craftsmanship ability modifier. Steven is using Steel Age technology, as his culture has developed metal working technology, giving him a +3 modifier (for a total modifier of +5 so far.) The "emperor's armory" he makes his weapons at is "high quality" tools for his Steel Age technology, giving him another +3 modifier and making the total modifier +8. His culture specializes in making machetes, and most Human warriors in his culture owns one, giving Steven another +2 from his culture. His total modifier is now +10.

4. Find the Time Modifier

The time modifier is the difficulty modifier with the success modifier subtracted from it. Steven's difficulty modifier is 17.5, and his success modifier is 10, so his time modifier is 7.5 (17.5 - 10 = 7.5.) Since the time modifiers are measured in whole numbers, we round Steven's time modifier to 8. Looking at the time modifier chart, we can see it will take Steven 64 hours to make his machete.
