Marko was the youngest son of noone of consequence (let's call them Sacha and Irina, eh). His older brother Fedor was the big hope of the family - intelligent, handsome and already a successful accountant for Mayor Stavik at age 18. Then, one evening, he didn't come home. Stavik claimed ignorance, of course, but even then, everyone assumed he'd killed the boy for some reason.

Marko, the stronger and stupider brother, could never really fill in for his brother. Eventually, he got a cushy job in the town watch. He didn't think much about who he arrested. Most of them were poor wretches whose only crime was starvation. But recently, Mayor Stavik fired the whole Watch and replaced them with undead. Now, Marko has begun to think. Maybe Stavik's rule isn't the best. If only someone would rise up to oppose him. Maybe that wizard Vadim knows something.
