Traveling from Dunkirk, the party is given a scroll by Sir A of Dunkirk. They think it will give them special access to Lord Caladorn. It really lets him know that he can and should use them for a plot he has going. So he arrests them and throws them in his prison. Sometime later, his sage appears in their cell and apologizes for the Lord's behavior. He gives them two options. Either they can have 10gp each for their troubles, and be sent on their way, or they can have 100gp each for cooperating in his scheme.

Assuming they cooperate, they are told to lie that they are from B in the southwest, and that they thought the scroll was right of passage through Hylar. The Lord then locks up a couple of thugs for the local thieves' guid, C, making it short-handed. C will be leaked the info by D, a small-time informant, and will presumably present the correct (but forged) scroll to free them. Once they're free, they'll be approached by E, presumed leader of C, with an offer. 20gp a piece for a 'hit' or they're framed.

Then two pieces of luck happen. First, D turns up dead. Second, F arrives in town, recognized by someone in the party. F is a second-story man from another town. Both clues should lead them to realize that E has set them up. While the 'hit' is going on (and every guard in the city is focused on it), C will instead try to assassinate Lord Caladorn.
