Hylar City is a small city and the capital of the northern kingdom of [[Meamnar:Hylar|Hylar]] in the campaign setting of [[Meamnar:Main_Page|Meamnar]].

==Major Products==

While cattle, sheep, and other livestock are found throughout Hylar, only pigs are raised in sufficient numbers for export.  What leaves the harbor of Hylar City is mostly dried and cured pork, though an occasional ship bearing live swine is not uncommon.

Spices from western Hylar are also routed through the city, as is the beer that is brewed from the grain fields to the north.  The city itself is known for its silversmiths.

* Pyron the Sage - an elementalist specializing in fire, Pyron is rude, condescending, and self-centered.  Nonetheless, he is the premier expert on the subject in all the Northern Kingdoms, possibly all of Meamnar.

==Notable Clergy and Churches==

* The Hall of the Red Knight, temple of the Red Knight, is the center of worship of that god (see Local Lore).  It is led by Sir Xander (LG hm Clr10), with 20 priests and about 300 followers.
* Church of the Red Sun, temple of Solor, is led by Dounais d'Solor (NG hm Clr6), an immigrant from Thelbane, with 10 priests and about 150 followers.

==Notable Rogues' and Thieves' Guilds==

* The Thieves' Guild of Hylar is an established guild in the city, with about 25 members.  They are led by Drugan One-Eye (LE hm Ftr6/Rog4), a battle-scarred mercenary with a surprising talent for operating behind the scenes.
* The Bloody Daggers are an up-and-coming guild, led by a former Thieves' Guild member named Rand (NE hm Rog6).  Their tactics are generally less subtle than the Thieves' Guild, and the two have frequent and violent run-ins.

* The Cave (fair/cheap) - Built over a small spring, and mostly from quarried limestone, it is especially popular during the sweltering heat of Lunasa.  The pub offers only a few rooms in back.

* Divina (CG hf Brd6), a part-time instructor at the Academy, is also a member of the [[Meamnar:Balance|Balance]].  She seldom takes part in Balance-related activities herself, preferring to act as a coordinator and information resource for other operatives.
* Fezzik (CG hm Bar5) is a gladiator at the arena, probably the most popular one at the moment.  Though his career has earned him a good deal of money, he is in it simply for the sport.  When not playing to the crowd, he's usually found at the Cave.
* Picarro, a rogue.

* Hylar Academy of Arts
* The Arena - One day a week, various contests are played out here.  The rules are dependent upon the type of match, as well as the participants, which may include Red Guardsmen, mages, prisoners, animals, and hired gladiators.  Slavery is illegal in Hylar, so combatants that are forced against their will to fight (except for prisoners) are limited to those very few whose owners can either bribe or deceive the appropriate officials.  Any outcome from first blood to death is possible, and it is not uncommon to see one follow the other in subsequent matches.

==Local Lore==

The kingdom of Hylar was founded in 612 by Lord William Hylar.  Prior to that, Hylar City (known then as Keeltown) was a simple fishing village that had existed for about four centuries.  Lord Hylar chose the site as his base of operations, constructing the Old Bailey and ruling there for thirty years.  Upon his ascendancy, as the Red Knight, to the plane of Celestia, the city became the center of worship of the new intermediate deity.
