Character Generation

Characters are generated with the standard Call of Cthulhu - Cthulhu Invictus system and then given the 'gladiator pack' to reflect their recent training.

PC generation is basically as per Call of Cthulhu version 6, with the following changes;

Stats;

  • STR: 3D6
  • CON: 3D6
  • SIZ: 2D6+6
  • INT: 2D6+6
  • POW: 3D6
  • DEX: 3D6
  • APP: 3D6
  • EDU: 1D6 for slaves, 2D6 educated, 3D6 for specialist

Skill points are EDUx20 and INTx10, and can be allotted to any skill. However, there is a skill cap of 80%. A PC with a 1d6 EDU has a 20 skill point Bonus. The bonus for 2d6 EDU is 5 skill points.

  • Note: Unlike most games we will not be using indiviual weapons, but rather Combat Styles. The Styles are;

    • Civilian
      • Pugio (dagger), hand to hand
    • Tough or thug
      • Gladius, club, pugio (dagger), hand to hand
    • Legionary
      • Large shield, pilum, gladius (short sword), pugio (dagger), hand to hand. Heavy body armour, helmet.
    • Gallic/Germanic
      • Large shield, spear, sword or axe, dagger, hand to hand. Heavy body armour, helmet.
    • Dacian
      • Falx, dagger, hand to hand. Helmet.
    • Parthian
      • Medium shield, short sword, bow.
    • Greek
      • Large shield, long spear, sword, dagger, hand to hand. Heavy body armour, greaves, helmet.
  • Gladiator combat syles
    • Murmillo
      • Large shield, Gladius (short sword), Pugio (dagger), hand to hand. Helmet, greaves, manicum (arm guard)
    • Retiarius
      • Trident, net, dagger, hand to hand. Manicum (arm guard)
    • Samnite
      • Large shield, Gladius (short sword), Pugio (dagger), hand to hand. Helmet, greaves.
    • Secutor
      • Large shield, Gladius (short sword), Pugio (dagger), hand to hand. Helmet (special smooth helmet to avoid being snagged or caught), greaves, manicum (arm guard)
    • Thraex
      • Small shield, Sica (short sword), Pugio (dagger), hand to hand. Helmet, greaves.
    • Velites
      • Small shield, javelin, gladius (short sword)
