Background
Street wolf was born in the Moonrise woods. His pack was from there, though he doesn't remember it well. What he does remember is a terrible winter that came and there wasn't any food to be found anywhere. When they did find food, they also found another pack that was running to that scent. There was a fight and things went poorly for his pack. They went even worse for the pack they came to fight. Before they were healed, a large predator attacked them. Maybe they chased the same prey.
No matter why, it won and they lost. It ate their prey and one of the pack before it was sated. Street Wolf limped away to the warmest place he could find.
That warm place was near the outskirts of town. Kids with too little to do played there. One was the doctor's son. He found Street Wolf, and gave him food and water. Street Wolf followed him home and gave teeth to anyone who tried to get between the food boy and street wolf. He didn't know that the doctor drugged some of the food so he could help heal Street Wolf. When Street Wolf was healed enough, he left that place, but protected food boy. That was until he was found but a much larger, stranger, mangier wolf. This wolf's name was "Mr Murphy" mostly because he liked to gnaw on the sorts of things that made his gums bleed. Someone told Street wolf it was a reference to a show. He has come to assume reference was code to laugh at a bad joke.
Murphy brought him to the nation, where he changed and realized what he was. He was good shifting, and he was a very smart wolf. He learned how to move amongst the humans wearing their skin, though he doesn't know the smaller details so well. Shifting became easy for him. When he's particularly upset, he shifts without thinking about it, but never in public. He made it through his rite of passage quickly, and was allowed to return to his home to keep an eye out for problems with the worm. Upon returning he found the boy, who had grown older, and the doctor, who would listen to the boy. He befriended the boy and continues to live in the wilderness that is the rural city.
