History

In 1975, an interdimensional being known as the Ashbringer attacked New York city. It claimed to be a servant of Entropy and the rightful and proper end of the Earth. It was unsuccessful due to the intervention of several powerful heroes most notably the illustious Doctor Life, who forced it into a human shell; stripping it of it of most of its powers. Doctor Life then spared it believing that now it was human 'he' would not seek to to accomplish his goal. More importantly Life was unsure what would happen if the human Ashbringer were to die, would it free the creature or destroy it awakening its master to its failure.

Since then Ashbringer has continued to plot the end of the world, making many attempts and has been the enemy of a variety of heroes. He has ended up in both asylums and prisons over the years but few hold him for long. Doctor Life has been thorn in his side, most notably preventing Ashbringer from causing the Yellowstone super-volcano to explode in 1998. He was always up to some nefarious plot to achieve his mission and someone was always standing by to twart it.

Recently it had unofficially become a right of passage for any hero wishing to enter the big leagues to have defeated Ashbringer. Ashbringer himself had become somewhat defeatist, going through the motions with no real belief in victory. After a shameful defeat to a group of junior Ashbringer disappeared. He hasn't been seen since before the Fins and V'sori incidents.
