Newhope and her moons, looking toward Daedalus

New Hope is a world of extremes. With effectively two suns (Murphy and Georgia) and three moons, the planet is ravaged by storms and heavy tides. Still the abundant light, water, and energy have made the planet a fairly successful colony. The people of New Hope occupy two primary areas. On the low flood plains, they build stilted cities to cope with the unusual tides and monsoons; here they raise rice and other crops suited to the wet marshes. They also fish the rich waters. On the high volcanic mountain ranges they mine for precious metals. The mines have become cities unto themselves. Protected from the ravages of the harsh weather, the people can live there unperturbed. A few cities stand on hillsides to facilitate trade and provide more stable environs, but even they are subject to unusual weather. The primary starport is in the city of Gibraltar clinging to the top and sides of a mighty granite mountain.
