Dolphins are becoming quite popular...as food! The coastal town of Taiji, Japan, the largest operator of dolphin drive hunting in the world, is undertaking a massive campaign to popularize the consumption of dolphin meat following the opening of its Great Taiji Dolphin Slaughterhouse. They are marketing it as a health food that greatly boosts brain development and intelligence, particularly in children. Interestingly, they managed to show that the IQs of children raised in Taiji and the nearby village of Koazagawa, wherein the staple food is dolphin and whale meat, are significantly higher than not only the national average but also the international average, almost miraculously so. Quite a problem for the local dolphins, some of whom are Mana's own friends.
