Qualification[edit]

Roll Edu 6+

  • -1 DM for every previous career.

Assignments[edit]

Choose one of the following:

  • Engineer: [Survival Edu 4+, Advancement Int 8+] You designed and constructed buildings, vehicles, or technical systems.
  • Information: [Survival Edu 4+, Advancement Edu 8+] You managed archives, libraries, computers, or data models.
  • Legal: [Survival Edu 5+, Advancement Int 7+] You worked in law for individual clients, a company, or a government. (This could also be used for accountants, insurance investigators, and the like.)

Mishaps[edit]

  • 1) Injured. Roll on the Injury table (page 37).
  • 2) Disbarred or decertified. Roll Advocate 8+. If you succeed, you may keep the Benefit roll from this term.
  • 3) Overwork and stress lead to burnout. Gain one free roll on the Skills and Training tables as you push yourself to the brink, then lose one point from Endurance, Intelligence, or Social Standing as the breakdown hits.
  • 4) You have an intense rivalry with another professional, that eventually drives you from the career. Gain that character as a Rival.
  • 5) You take an extended sabbatical, to study or teach. You may take the Scholar career for your next term without needing to roll for Qualification.
  • 6) You are the target of a lawsuit. You may agree to a partial settlement, in which case you leave the career but retain this term's Benefit roll. Or, you may fight to the bitter end, in which case you may remain in the career, but lose all Benefits rolls gained so far in this career.

Events[edit]

  • 2) Disaster! Roll on the Mishap table, but you are not ejected from this career.
  • 3) You have the opportunity to perform important pro bono work. If you refuse, you gain nothing. If you accept, you lose one Benefit roll from this career, but gain 1d3 Contacts among those you helped, or were also assisting.
  • 4) You receive advanced training in a specialist field. Throw Education 8+ to gain any one skill of your choice at level 1.
  • 5) A happy client gives you a bonus. Gain a +1 DM to any one Benefit roll.
  • 6) You travel extensively off-world. Gain one of Languages (any) 1, Streetwise 1, Survival 1, Vacc Suit 1, or Zero-Gravity 1.
  • 7) Life Event. Roll on the Life Events table (page 34).
  • 8) You are an acknowledged expert, sought for advice or as an expert witness. Gain one Social Standing and a Contact in legal or governmental circles.
  • 9) You have the opportunity to cut corners or exploit confidential data. If you refuse, you gain nothing. If you accept, you gain your victim as an Enemy, and must roll Admin 8+ or Deception 8+. If you succeed, you gain a +2 DM to any one Benefit roll, and may increase any skill by one level; if you fail, you lose one Benefit roll from this career.
  • 10) A noteworthy assignment works out to your credit. Gain a +2 DM to your next Advancement check.
  • 11) You acquire a mentor in the field. Either gain Carouse 1, or take a +4 DM to your next Advancement check thanks to his aid.
  • 12) Your work sets a historic predecent. You are automatically promoted.
