The Victorian Era was the golden age of the circus in Britain, and it was the circus that was his family growing up.  Roderick's parents were performers in one of the many travelling circuses of the era, and he followed in their footsteps.  He was still a child when he first began performing on the trapeze and the high wire, though he also did a number of odd jobs and assisting others, and he quickly came to love the attention of the audience and the thrill of the show.  His goals, as he reached adulthood, was to reach the heights of success that would allow him to perform in London's Astley Amphitheater, the heart of the British Circus.  Before he could realize that particular dream, however, he skill and showmanship caught the attention of the Toreador who would embrace him.  She came to him after one of the shows and claimed him.  Shortly thereafter, there was a terrible 'accident' during what many have said was his finest performance ever...no human could have recovered sufficiently to perform again, although of course the wounds were nothing to even a fledgling vampire.  One last show, because slipping into obscurity was never an acceptable option -- he had to end his career in a _memorable_ way.

Because of the 'injury', when mingling with humans, he uses a cane and affects a limp, though he drops this bit of performance when his only audience is vampires.  Still ever the showman, he's an Elysium regular and generally has a good reputation among Kindred society -- he's polite and knows how to charm an audience, though part of his 'charm' for those more adept at Camarilla politics is that he's still rather lacking in subtlety; it makes him comparatively easy to manipulate to their ends.  Now that he's a vampire, his drive to excel has not diminished, though he's still more focused on honing his personal skill and ability at this point than other areas, though that will doubtless change at least some as the circumstances do.

(Notes: I'm currently assuming his sire is also his mentor, although I'm open to using someone else for that role; I deliberately left that vague so we could fill in someone suitable -- I'm also more than happy to share a sire with one or more of the other PCs.  At this point, he has no clue that he's unable to produce childer.  While it's not likely to come up right away, when it does, I imagine it's going to come as quite the blow, since it's going to mean he killed someone he was enraptured sufficiently with to embrace.)
