Personal Shadow “Bajas” After Bid pips: 15 pips. Artifacts; Vek's Items

Shadow “Bajas” 3 pips Personal Shadow, Communication Barrier, Control of Contents.

“Bajas” Vek's personal shadow is as much a hiding place as anything. Barrier against Logrus, sorcery, and trump searches.   
 A Black Zone world as far from Chaos as he felt comfortable going. Technologically not too advanced beyond trains and steamships with some electronics up to the radio stage. Early air travel.  Call it a mixture of 1890 to 1930.  A gun age and a jazz age.  Sailing ships and steam ships.   
 It is largely archipelagos with few continental land masses. The people are mostly peaceful and involved in a wide ranger of sea based trades. This gives Vek something to do, such as fishing, longshoreman work, and socializing with working people unlikely to have much against him. 
 Physically a mixture of benign humanoid races from the Chaos end of shadow. In this place he owns a small building built into the front of a cave. Inside are his meager possessions, mostly books and maps. Nothing he would miss if he never returned. 
 In Bajas is a wharf side dive called the Tavern, for lack of a better name.  Chasa and Vek own it.  It serves the dock works and a mixture of blue collar clientele.  Music, stage magic, simple fare and plentiful drinks.   
 He is obsessed with music, especially the flute and the piano/organ.  Jazz, Ragtime, and versions of Spike Jones. 
 He enjoys stage magic, coin handling, prestidigitation, card tricks, and misdirects.   
 He spends most of his time here in a tavern he partly owns.  Live music and cold beer.  He paints and sketches, and dreams of trump making.  

Character Concept After Lintra and Benedict had their night of dalliance she returned to chaos filled with the Juice of Amber. She bore a daughter before returning to battle to meet her fate. This daughter, (…......) sadly, in the hands of enemies of Amber, would have become a broodmare to create a creature able to rock the war effort against Amber. Dara was eventually that weapon. Merlin, was ready to play a role as well. To reach the needed powers and skills Dara had took 3 generations. The lives of those she said ended violently. Posit that those generations happened deep in time-distorted Chaos so Dara and Merlin could be of age to play their parts. What of these cast off creatures above Dara? Bred for a purpose that they failed, many could have ended their lives quenching blades, bled into constructs, tortured for recreation, or held in waiting against future sacrifices. Certainly some survived and were valuable members of the courts. Some may have been married off to other families eager for the bloodline of Oberon. Others may have been tolerated as failed experiments left to their own devices. Some could have escaped. Vek is one such creature. Unable to attain human form at first and not a creature of great power like Brand or Bleys or Fiona, or even Dara, he was tormented for an age or so and then set aside as a castoff toy, when newer and more promising in the line of Lintra came along. He was called on for some duty from time to time, tolerated to be let loose for a time. He wandered Chaos, hiding, learning, staying out of the way of his betters. Reading in dark library ways and in long chaos halls, he learned bits of magic, power words, a way to defend himself. At the end of Patternfall he was as shocked as everyone that Chaos lost to Amber. In a crowd, he watched the Funeral of Oberon and eventually the arrival of the entourage of the King of Amber. In this entourage he met, briefly, and touched the hand of Bleys of Amber, who gave out simple coins with his face emblazoned on them as trinkets. He left the hall drunk with a deep devotion for the red man and his red coin. When the Amber Cults arose he went to join those who admired the Red Bleys. His favorite possession is the red coin of Bleys. In one of those dark libraries he met a Great Lord who look pity on the broken creature with the blood of Dworkin. Perhaps he saw potential in a creature others discarded. Perhaps he was fond of recycling. Perhaps he plays the long game, hoping Vek pays off. For reasons of his own, and in dark secret he trained the creature, taught it to be a man. Studied it, taught it sorcery, conjuration, and trained him in shape-shifting. Eventually, he prepared him to assay the Logrus as a means of escaping Chaos. Having done so, and cast into shadow by the effort, Vek began walking. Comments on Bad Stuff Yes, 9 is a lot of bad stuff to start with. But I want him to feel like a hunted animal. He has been testing going further from Chaos each time he visits his shadow. He is horribly afraid that eventually those that raised him will come and take him away for further torture/experimentation but knows that only being occasionally seen in the Courts will keep them from being inquisitive of how he spends his time. The brood of Lintra and Benedict A few thoughts. The people who bred Dara had several generations to get what they wanted, and Dara says as much about her being the first to be human in appearance. It also is implied it was a matrilineal line. Perhaps the males were killed off quicker, or left aside like Vek against future use. As for Benedict, he does get excited knowing about Dara but there seems little contact between them in the Merlin Chronicles. I'll leave Benedict's knowledge of Vek up to you of course, but I think he might know something terrible was done to Lintra's children and grandchildren. His efforts to find such progeny might lead him to Vek. Benedict's Cult might well be interested in gaining favor with him by supplying information about Lintra's brood. Where Vek fits in the line, generationally, and in relation to Dara, ill leave up to you.
