In the later days of the year 2019, no one expected anything earth shattering to happen.

==Tech==

Tech prognosticators had gotten good at knowing what was likely coming down the pipe.

Apple's iPhone 9 was expected to have a higher resolution camera and screen, more storage, and a built in document scanner that could actually translate documents into word processing software, but none of that was far fetched.

Okay, no one really foresaw the meteoric rise of Feral Industries and its desktop chemical generator. Having a clean (it actually locked down carbon in the process of creation and use) self-contained generator that could power a house for five years and a car for 7 to 10 brought about the largest sea change in automobiles since their invention.

By December of 2019, at least 35% of all cars on the road in the U.S. are full on electric vehicles powers by a Feral generator. Something like 18% of homes are now powers by similar generators, but zoning regulations and Electricians Unions have restricted their widespread use.

Google, working together with Microsoft, announced a new VR program, but there's not much hope yet for a home based full VR experience, not like the Sony Arcades can provide, expensive as they are.

==Entertainment==

The most recent Robin Hood movie, starring Tilda Swinton as Robin, did fairly well, despite the protests and arguments about casting a woman as Robin. Some attribute its success to the fact that they did not change the gender of Maid Marian, and while it '''was''' rated PG, that didn't stop the film from portraying a fairly intense relationship.

The first film in the ''Lorelei Lacey'' series, '''''The Golden Goblin''''' opened in mid December to lines wrapping around the streets, with families waiting in tents in the bitter cold to be the first to see it.

==Politics==

President Carey bids fair to be viewed as the President with the least impact on the political scene ever. Though he ran on a platform of non-partisanship, he hasn't been able to fulfill his promises. He has little or no political capital with the Republicans, his own party, meaning that they go their own way more often than not. Since he has even less capital with the Democrats, gridlock is the order of the day, most days.

ISIL remains in retreat from Iraq and Syria, but is still too strong to be called 'defeated' yet.
