*Background: Ivan comes from Terleen, a minor world in the Detis confederacy where his family was one of the main merchant groups. However their rivals led by the Jorgensens combined against them into a cartel to try and force them out of business. By bribing officials and staging fake pirate raids against the 
Butler's ships the cartel has reduced them to only a minor player and Ivan has headed out to earn money to get back and upset the cartel's macinations.
