Background[edit]

Mirak was born to a Romulan political family before the destruction of Romulus. When she turned eleven her mother was assimilated by the Borg. In 2383 after 6 years Mirak's mother was recovered at the artifact. Mirak's father had used the time and the tragic loss of his wife to work his way to Vice-proconsul. On the other hand a returning spouse who wasn't as stable as he wanted was a potential liability so after being rushed through treatment Tedriat was only allowed in public for special events and Mirak was dragged with her father as a prop for his career and as a caretaker for her mother as she went from the Borg collective to isolation. After four more years Tedriate committed suicide and Mirak fled with the Borg technology left in her body into Federation territory as a refugee.

Over the next decades Mirak experimented with the stolen Borg technology and neural interface technology. She built a gaming company (using reverse-engineered Borg technology) and became well known (by an anonymous pseudonym) in the Federation gaming community. After a few decades Marik applied for Starfleet as the only path to gain access to Borg technology. Mirak had a bit of a hard time as a Romulan refugee but having created a gaming empire of her own gave her a social outlay even if she never told any of her classmates about her pseudonym. She focused on the scientific medical tracks to understand neurology and psychology with a side interest in understanding collective decision making.

In Starfleet Mirak was given opportunities to explore and work with the few surviving xBs and is now a primary expert in Borg psychology and medicine, especially in relationship to collective thought and subspace communication.
