Empire Ascendant

Sabacc is a card game played with electronic cards, whose values shift at one or more points during the game (based on the house rules of the casino or locale), and contains two pots from which a player can win: one pot for the current hand, and one pot that builds over the course of the game until a player gets a specific hand called the "Idiot's Array."

Game Mechanics[edit]

The following rules came from a post on RPGGeek as posted by Bossko B., with some modifications for the D6 rules.

If you have no Sabacc deck use regular playing cards, remember to include the Jokers.

  • Red cards are positive numbers.
  • Black cards are negative numbers.
  • Jack=11, Queen=12, King=13 & Ace=14, Jokers=0 (the Idiot card).

Order of Play[edit]

  1. Determine how many credits each Gambler is willing to put up.
  2. Deal each character 3 cards from your Sabacc deck.
  3. Roll you characters Gambling skill.
  4. Add the skill roll and the card total together and consult the following Sabaac Results table.

Sabaac Results[edit]

Highest (best) possible result to lowest:

  1. Idiot's Array = dealt a 2, 3, and the Idiot Card (Joker)
  2. Pure Sabacc = dealt a total of 23
  3. Pure Sabacc = Gambling roll is 23 exactly
    • Note that a player that gets to 23 and has exploding 6s through Force Points may simply stop at 23 automatically; that's the benefit of spending Force Points!
  4. Pure Sabacc = Gambling roll + cards = 23
  5. Sabacc = highest total of cards + Gambling roll
  6. Bomb Out = dealt a total of 0
  7. Bomb Out = cards + Gambling roll = 0

Bomb Out: this is an automatic loss and the loser must pay DOUBLE (the "pay double" part of this rule usually only applies in casinos).

Cheating[edit]

Cheating can be done as normal:

  • If one person cheats, he automatically wins, but must roll Gambling opposed by all other player's Gambling to keep it undetected.
    • If the house notices the cheat (the house has Gambling 5D), you get the boot and lose all credits in the pot.
  • If there are multiple cheaters, they roll separately to see who wins, and then again vs. all other players to see if they keep their cheat undetected.
    • The winner of the cheat against multiple other cheaters does NOT have to re-roll against all the other players; spoils to the victor (hopefully)!
