Backstory

Secundus was a tribal man taken in battle and, as a POW, sold as a slave to a Gladiator lanista (trainer/owner). Narcissus, his owner, and he loathed each other for from the beginning and he was frequently over-matched. He would have died early except one of his barrack-mates, the famous Pallas the Thraex, showed him how to survive. Eventually, Secundus (he named himself 'Secundus Pallas'; 'Second only to Pallas') was warned by an 'admirer' (gladiators are also sex slaves to high-bred women) that he was to be matched against Pallas in in a 'sans mensa' match; 'no mercy'. That night Pallas killed himself. The next morning, at training, Secundus armoured himself as in a dream. He walked over to Narcissus and drove his wooden sword into the man's throat. During the ensuing riot and fire the surviving gladiators fanned out and tried to escape. As far as Secundus knows he's the only survivor, and is still hunted by the empire as an escaped slave.

Secundus is armoured in a hodge-podge of gladiator armour which is essentially plate mail. His dearest possession is the Thraex helm of Pallas.
