Chapter 20

  • From Verithe's Log

[Verithe] -->| YOU (Verithe) have joined #Nobilis
[Verithe] -->| Random_Nerd (~scree-fic@MagicStar-4BF6DF39.hsd1.il.comcast.net) has joined #Nobilis
[Random_Nerd] Hey.
-->| lazarus (~Mike@MagicStar-B245C66F.storm.ca) has joined #Nobilis
[lazarus] hey
[Verithe] Hey
[Random_Nerd] Oh, and I saw your Assembly descriptions. Thanks, Verithe.
[lazarus] oh, crap. Right, descriptions.
[Verithe] Those work, then?
[lazarus] what were the requirements, again?
[Random_Nerd] Up to 5 "Always, never, or 'tends to' " descriptions of what your estate is or does.
[Random_Nerd] 7 points assigned to those traits.
[Random_Nerd] Hmm. Verithe, what does the "must create" one mean?
[Random_Nerd] For instance, Theresa's one for Plants is "Plants (if living) must photosynthesize" (3). "Plants must be useful" (3). "Things that are heavily processed are less likely to count as plants" (1).
[lazarus] so, "Numbers must be a quantity" would be ok?
[Random_Nerd] Sure.

-->| YOU (Angelo) have joined #Nobilis
[Verithe] Some instance of an object that previously did not exist will be brought into existence through assembly.
[Random_Nerd] Or "Numbers always refer to either discrete objects, or to units."
[Angelo] HI all!
[Random_Nerd] Okay. Thanks.
[Verithe] Or something.
[Verithe] Do Indian Pipes photosynthesize?
[Random_Nerd] Hmm... no, they don't.
[Random_Nerd] So, for the purposes of the Estate, they aren't plants.
[Random_Nerd] They may still be for the purposes of biologists, of course.
[Verithe] Fascinating!
-->| BethE (~BethL@MagicStar-4BF6DF39.hsd1.il.comcast.net) has joined #Nobilis
[Random_Nerd] But metaphysically speaking, in this game, they aren't.
[lazarus] I'm using "quantity" as a term meaning, well, mostly number of stuff. But also as the thing that math works on
[BethE] Evening, all! *HUGS*
[Verithe] Biologists are silly creatures.
[Verithe] Hi!
[lazarus] hi Beth, Angelo
[Angelo_] Hi!
[lazarus] I forgot my homework *shameface* so I'm catching up
[Random_Nerd] Do you mean magnitude, multitude, or both, Laz?
[lazarus] both, I suppose.
[Random_Nerd] Hmm. Okay.
[Angelo_] Can someone copy all that I lost here?
[lazarus] Pretty much, if you can write it down with a number, that is a requirement of being a member of this Estate.
[Random_Nerd] Okay.
-->| Knockwood (~chatzilla@24.205.206.IP) has joined #Nobilis
[Knockwood] Hi guys
[Angelo_] Hi Knock
[Verithe] Hi!
[lazarus] hey kwd.
[Random_Nerd] So, that implies that oddities like i, pi, iota and so on count as numbers?
[lazarus] yep
=-= YOU are now known as Angelo
[lazarus] pi, at least, does. I don't know about i - that could be an artifact of the estate of Math
[Random_Nerd] And I know this seems like a bit of needless work, but I'm going somewhere with this.
[lazarus] e, as well.
[Random_Nerd] Well, whether i is a number is up to you.
[Random_Nerd] Remember, you're not defining what numbers are in real life, but what Brian defines his estate as.
[lazarus] I can't come up with a good way of writing down that it's only things that are "real" - that have a physical component ... like, you could say "I have 6 sheep", and the quantity "6 sheep" would qualify. But something like "i" being defined as the square root of -1, not really having a representative in reality, just making Math nice and easy, wouldn't.
[lazarus] pi, being the ratio between the diameter and circumference of a circle counts as being "physical" in this sense.
[Random_Nerd] Numbers must correspond to physically actual things, at least potentially.
[Random_Nerd] (So, kind of like Russel's view of what numbers are?)
[lazarus] (Russel?)
[Random_Nerd] (You know. Bertrand Russell.)
[Random_Nerd] (Oh, I spelled it wrong.)
[Knockwood] I put up a first-draft version of your 'homework' earlier...
[lazarus] (probably heard that name before ... I'll wiki it) in this, I'm trying (albeit I don't have the language, it seems) to draw a line between things that are mathematically useful and things that correlate to, well, things and stuff.
[Random_Nerd] What's the difference between "counters fear" and "counters mindless fleeing"?
[Random_Nerd] Is one internal, and the other action-based?
[Random_Nerd] (Wrote most of Principia Mathematica.)
[lazarus] electrical charge fits Numbers, for instance, even if it's normally +1, -1, or 0.
[Random_Nerd] *nod*
[Random_Nerd] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bertrand_Russell)
[Random_Nerd] (Anyway, he thought that what a number was, was a set of the things of which there are that many.)
[Random_Nerd] (So, say, "2" is the set of all things that there are two of.)
[Knockwood] RN: counters the emotion in general vs counters the action itself
[Random_Nerd] (He defines it a lot better, although he takes about fifty pages to do so.)
[Random_Nerd] Okay. Thought so, wanted to make sure.
[lazarus] fascinating. Though not quite what I'm going for. Perhaps a previous incarnation of Numbers, or Mathematics before Kudzu got here.
[Knockwood] (mainly, I have to justify why we were called to Chancel Jaris)
[Random_Nerd] So, Knock. Would, say, a water jet cutter count as a blade?
[Knockwood] well, it does cut...
[Random_Nerd] Or, for that matter, a cutting torch?
[Knockwood] those might be 'metaphorical blades'
[Random_Nerd] Hmm. Okay, so a blade must be an object, not a process?
[Knockwood] yeah, I'd say it's a cutter rather than a cutting.
[Random_Nerd] Okay.
[Random_Nerd] Hmm.
[lazarus] I've got three values so far: "Must be a quantity", "Must not be only a mathematically useful value", and "tend to represent 'how much' of something" (with the latter, it says that things like pi are numbers, but things in the domain tend to be things with units attached)
[Random_Nerd] Would diamond dust count as a blade?
[Knockwood] (Especially since we've had a bunch of blades that didn't cut squat)
[Random_Nerd] How is the third value different from the first?
[Random_Nerd] Oh, hey. Are things like "first" and "third" numbers?
[Random_Nerd] They represent positions, not quantities...
[Knockwood] hm... not unless it was mounted to something that lets it cut something, and then that would be a Blade.
[Random_Nerd] But would, then, an individual particle of diamond be a blade?
[lazarus] I guess they're not. The difference between 1 and 3 is that 1 deals with writing it down as a number (like, "1", "2", "3.14159..."), and the third says that numbers tend to have units (like "3 metres", "6 sheep", and so on) but don't have to.
[Knockwood] No.. an individual particle can't cut squat
[Random_Nerd] Hmm.
[BethE] So no monofilament stuff?
[Random_Nerd] So, then, it's like "Numbers must have a symbolic representation" and "numbers tend to correspond to units of measurement"?
[Knockwood] no, monofilament does qualify. It is, after all, strung together with the express purpose of cutting.
[Random_Nerd] So blades have to be /made/.
[Random_Nerd] A sharp piece of flint isn't a blade, unless someone deliberately chipped it?
[lazarus] RN: yeah, that could work.
[Knockwood] not necessarity. (If that were true we wouldbn't have found the mutant bees)
[Random_Nerd] Hmm. What's the difference, then?
[Knockwood] The individual particle isn't a blade because it would have to be mounted to something to cut. By itself it won't do anything.
[Knockwood] you could argue that an individual particle has no edge to cut with
[Random_Nerd] Hmm. Are the individual particles of sand sprayed by a sandblaster blades?
[Knockwood] They are if we need them to be, damn it! :)
[Random_Nerd] Heh.
[Angelo] is not so simply...
[Random_Nerd] Laz, Knock, do you want to think about these issues a while and get back to them next week?
[Random_Nerd] Oh, one other thing.
[Knockwood] What issues? We're Nobles. I can make the chair you're sitting on a Blade if need be.
[Random_Nerd] I noticed that Machines and Assemblies, right now, are very near to being the same estate.
[Random_Nerd] * A machine must be done by 2 or more pieces working together. [3]
[Random_Nerd] - 2 gears with connected cogs are a machine.
[Random_Nerd] - A gear with a rope and a bucket at the rope end is a machine.
[Random_Nerd] * Machinery can't be sentient [3]
[Random_Nerd] - A person, an AI, a wasp, a flower are not machines. The first 2 are sentient being, the flower is not sentient but is a single piece being.
[Random_Nerd] * Machinery tends to execute the action they are designed for. [1]
[Random_Nerd] - A blender blend, a driller drill a light give light a oven warm pizzas and so on.
[Random_Nerd] 1. Must create. (3)
[Random_Nerd] 2. Tends to consume more than one resource component. (2)
[Random_Nerd] 3. Can't be initiated without intent (though an end result contrary to intent may occur). (900...I mean 2)
[Random_Nerd] So, I'd like to ask each of you, what's the main difference between the two estates.
[Angelo] uhm
[Random_Nerd] (I also had a separate question for Angelo. Angelo, can a computer program be a machine?)
[Angelo] machine doesn’t need to create. A videogame don't produce nothing, an assembly give something as result.
[Angelo] also a program is not a machine, it is not physical
[Angelo] it is not made of "touchable" pieces
[Random_Nerd] Okay. So machines have to be physical objects?
[Angelo] uhm there can be unphysical one if someone make them so, but there are not though machines or concept ones
[Verithe] Assembly is more the instance of the verb.
[Random_Nerd] Okay. So, a machine is an object, an assembly is a process?
[Angelo] could work for me
[Verithe] Yes
[Angelo] so assembly can produce machines
[Knockwood] that kinda makes sense given that they're both from Vulcan
[Verithe] Or even use machines.
[Angelo] @knk: yepity!
[Knockwood] Kite makes it, hands it off to Ftisk. :)
[Verithe] And machines can use assembly!
[Random_Nerd] So, say, if a guy is putting some stuff together, then that's an assembly, but it's not a machine until he's done.
[Verithe] If the result is a machine, yes.
[Random_Nerd] Okay.
[Random_Nerd] That works.
[Angelo] well is a machine only if the assembled thing do a task. A bunch of book assembled together as a installation is not a machine
[Random_Nerd] They're similar, but there's things on each side that don't count as the other.
[Random_Nerd] Okay, I have what I need. Thanks.
[Random_Nerd] Okay, anything else before we start?
[lazarus] RN: emailed off. Can you check that list?
[Angelo] for what you need these info?
[Knockwood] where's Brian's thing?
=-= BethE is now known as Theresa
=-= lazarus is now known as Brian
=-= Verithe is now known as Kite
=-= Knockwood is now known as DanteE
[Random_Nerd] Okay. For number 3, do you want that to be "units or objects"?
=-= YOU are now known as Ftiskrand
[Random_Nerd] Because if there are, say, three apples on a table, then there's no unit applicable to the apples.
[Brian] sure. I was considering objects (like "sheep") being units in this case.
[Random_Nerd] Okay. Objects count as units.
[Random_Nerd] Then it seems fine to me.
[Brian] until whoever's in charge of Units decides otherwise, of course :p Then I'd have to shoot him :p (or her, or it)
[Random_Nerd] Heh.
[Random_Nerd] But this works.
[Brian] excellent.
[Kite] And it will turn out that the being in charge of Units is part man, part woman and part doghouse.
[Ftiskrand] (where we where last time.... I have a black out. :-( )
[Kite] Walter's stack
[Random_Nerd] You were in the Walter's Lost Stuff cargo container.
[DanteE] (We were standing over the battered ruin of Entropy's corpse...)
[Random_Nerd] Ah, yes.
[Random_Nerd] The battered ruin of Entropy's corpse winks.
[Random_Nerd] ___________STArT______________________
[Ftiskrand] (ah, thank you)
[Theresa] (Man, you know what, we could find Entropy's heart somewhere in here!)
[Random_Nerd] (You think that still exists?)

  • Ftiskrand, aspect throw, way much air in Kite general direction!

[Kite] (Aww! Little r wants to be a big kid! )
[Theresa] (In a theoretical sense?)
[Kite] "What was that for?"
[Ftiskrand] "Fun!"
[Kite] "Oh. Very well, then." :)
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Oh, and just so you know, I can't take anything out of here. Even though I'm staff. It'd be, like, a paradox."
[Ftiskrand] (air like the one you can use to nest :-P )
[DanteE] "Any clue as to what happened to Walter's memories of Mike Cook?"
[Kite] "Is it possible for any of the other staff to steal them?"
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Hmm. I... guess? They'd never do that, though. The big boss is very serious about that."
[Theresa] "I would say it would be breaking the Rules of this Chancel."
[DanteE] "... now, this place has what's _lost_, but not what's _taken_, right?
[Kite] "I see. Do stolen things wind up in here, anyway?"
[DanteE] (jinx)
[Kite] (Hehe)
[Brian] "Query of a thought: if something is taken from a vault, then what happens?"
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Yeah. Stuff that someone took, that's somewhere else. Same with stuff that got destroyed."
[Theresa] (Aha, _that's_ where Entropy's heart is!)
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "And before you ask, I am /not/ going to ask Baalhermon if we can poke around in his chancel."
[DanteE] "Who?"
[Kite] "So this means your memory was either stolen or destroyed, not lost?"
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Works for Lord YouKnowWho. He's Destruction."
[Theresa] "Noble of Destruction."
[Brian] "He found his memory again."
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Well, one of the Destructions. I think there's another one, too."
[Brian] "Do found things go away from the Vault?"
[DanteE] (Is Baalhermon known to the Aides, or anyone else?)
[Kite] "Voldemort?"
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Yeah, if it's found, it doesn't stay here."
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "I don't know how the details work. Not my department."
[Brian] "So, since you found your memories again, they're no longer here, right?"
[Random_Nerd] (Baalhermon is known to Dante. He's one of Entropy's powers.)
[DanteE] "Hm... we'd need to look in the Lost Things vault of some dog that's still affected."
[Random_Nerd] (He's, uh, one of the Powers of Destruction.)
[DanteE] (must be mixing chars up, I thought E didn't have known Nobles)
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Well, we're on the Lunar Dogs floor."
[Random_Nerd] (He has three. Baalhermon, Meon, Joktan.)
[Theresa] (He has three.)
[Random_Nerd] (Destruction, Desecration, Spite.)
[Random_Nerd] (...I think you've met them. Some of them, at least.)
[DanteE] (Ah.)
[Brian] "and, here's a funky thought, what if they're not lost, they just don't exist yet, and retroactively exist once created."
[Theresa] (And there is a different Destruction that is part of the cycle of life but Entropy's is destruction for the fun of being a dick.)
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "I'm not nearly stoned enough to understand that."
[Random_Nerd] (Yes. There are two Imperators who have "Destruction" as an Estate. It's just not the same /kind/ of Destruction.)
[Kite] "You're stoned?"
[DanteE] "Didn't know you converted to Last-Tuesdayism, Brian..."
[Brian] "That's what you get for talking to Nobles."
[Brian] (in other news, HEEE Zathras!)
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Figure of speech. I don't know if drugs even work on dogs."
[DanteE] "Hm...
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "There have to be /some/ that do dog. Cats have catnip, after all."
[DanteE] "Any of your fellow lunar sheepdogs mention Mike Cook lately?"
[Theresa] "I'm not sure. It would have to deal with the color differences."
[Kite] "He wouldn't really remember that, would he?"
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "It's not like it comes up much. I mean, we don't even know where he is."
[DanteE] "London."
[DanteE] "... whose box is this?" pointing to the box next to Walter's
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "But it's not like humans sit around saying 'I, as a mammal with acute yet vulnerable eyes, have an instinctive flinch reaction when something gets near them. How about you'. Same thing."
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "I'd have to check it on the index."
[Brian] "T, could you create a drug for getting dogs stoned? If there were one, but you didn't know what it was, could you just create that, instead of creating a new plant species, I mean"
[DanteE] "Well, these are all lunar sheepdogs around here, right?"
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "All lunar dogs. Not just sheepdogs."
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Not all of these guys even live in-Chancel."
[DanteE] "We could look through a few of these at random until we find a dog who's lost memory of Mike..."
[Brian] "Would be easier if we could simply Divine it."
[DanteE] "Assuming 'lost' is the right word."
[Random_Nerd] (And, yes, Ftisk could totally check the index with a divination.)
[DanteE] "... of course. Ophaniel."
[DanteE] (or Ftisk...)
[Ftiskrand] (ok, I check)

  • Ftiskrand divine the indexes looking for Mike cook memories

[Random_Nerd] (The container to the left belongs to Sparky, a half-dog-half-jackal who does not live in Locus Ophaniel. The one on the right belongs to Sonny Jim, a small mixed-breed dog that hunts mice. He does live in Locus Ophaniel.)
[Ftiskrand] (anyone with these memories?)
[Random_Nerd] (And, let's see, Dante can probably check each of them to see if they're worried about Mike.)
[DanteE] (once I get the info IC. :) )
[Random_Nerd] (Yeah.)
[Brian] (The Numbers description is now up on the wiki)
[Random_Nerd] (On a tangent... is a dog's claw or tooth a blade?)

  • Ftiskrand repeats what he found with the divination

[Random_Nerd] (Dante, Sparky does not care about Mike. Jim does.)
[DanteE] (Hm... in the same sense that a mutant bee stinger is. :) )
[Random_Nerd] (Okay.)
[DanteE] "Hm... Sparky doesn't care about Mike...
[Brian] "Let's check his vault, then"
[DanteE] "Which goes against the Directive. Let's have a look."
[Random_Nerd] Walter looks around his container one more time, nods, and then walks out onto the catwalk.
[Ftiskrand] "Let's go!"
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Could someone get the doors?"

  • DanteE closes up Walter's box once everybody's out...
  • Kite dawdles, but not too much.

[DanteE] (uhoh)
[DanteE] "OK, one box to the left..."
[Random_Nerd] Sparky's box, like Walter's, is a large metal shipping container with numbers in angelic on the front.

  • DanteE pops it open...

[Kite] (No worries. Walter's box isn't interesting enough to Kite.)

  • Ftiskrand peeks inside

[Random_Nerd] When the door is opened, the light inside turns on.
[Random_Nerd] The box devoted to hair is much smaller, and there are three, rather than one, "intangibles" files.

  • Ftiskrand div the index

[DanteE] "Hm."
[Random_Nerd] Also, there are about seven statutes, done in a vaguely Egyptian style, and a large limestone sarcophagus near the back.
[DanteE] "Sparky lost a tomb?"
[Ftiskrand] "What are these statures here for? Walter?"

  • Theresa looks closely at the statues.

[Random_Nerd] Walter: "I don't even know the guy. Apparently he had, and lost, a lot of stuff."
[Theresa] (Sparky is Anubis?)
[Brian] "Could it be that something a dog marks and thus considers 'his' when it gets lost shows up in his vault?"
[Random_Nerd] (Sparky's "Curses" and "Blessings" files take up most of the filing cabinets. His "Memories" section is no larger than Walter's.)
[Brian] "Hence, tomb"
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Hmm. Maybe it works that way. I don't know. Mine didn't have a bunch of hydrants and walls in it."
[DanteE] "What's in his Intangibles files?"
[Brian] "But if they're not lost..."
[Ftiskrand] "Uhm appear the he have a larger then Walter Curses & Blessing section... but the Memories are near the same size" *point*
[Random_Nerd] (Also, Sparky has more entries in the "Time" category, and several in the "Space" one.)

  • DanteE checks Sparky's memories..."

[Theresa] "Maybe Sparky has lived for a very long time. Maybe he lives in a Chancel."
[Random_Nerd] Mostly they're memories of specific people, or of locations.

  • DanteE looks for Mike Cook

[Random_Nerd] (Sparky does not live in this chancel.)
[Random_Nerd] Not in the list.
[DanteE] "But he's still a moon dog. Walter, does Ophaniel share the moon with someone else?"
[Ftiskrand] (with a GDiv of data can I find where Sparky live?)
[Random_Nerd] (Hmm... a LDiv would tell you if it's written down or known by someone vulnerable to miracles.)
[Ftiskrand] (ok lDiv route then!)

  • DanteE checks the Curses and Blessings...
  • Ftiskrand lDiv data for where Sparky live

[Random_Nerd] (Sparky lives, according to a long list of inhabitants of a city, in Locus Mercury.)
[DanteE] "What's the story with the Egyptian stuff, Theresa?"
[Ftiskrand] "Sparky live in Locus Mercury... but why he registers as a moon dog then?"
[Random_Nerd] Dante, curiously enough, Mike does show up in the "Blessings" file.
[Random_Nerd] (Mercury like the god, in this case, not like the planet.)
[DanteE] "Whup!"
[Kite] "What makes a blessing or curse lost?"
[Random_Nerd] According to the description of the lost blessing: "Any dog who keeps the faith may do anything that is necessary to save Mike Cook."

  • DanteE checks it out...

[Ftiskrand] (Ohm I cross wired them!)
[DanteE] "Keeps the faith?"
[Random_Nerd] (It doesn't say further.)
[Ftiskrand] "Religion?"
[DanteE] "Ftisk, did you locate any lost faith?"
[Theresa] "Don't know. They don't look like anything I've seen in history books."
[Ftiskrand] "I can try"
[Random_Nerd] (Might be in the Ideas file.)

  • Ftiskrand lDiv accordingly

[Random_Nerd] (Only lost faith there is his faith in his ability to dodge slow-moving alligators and look good doing it.)

  • DanteE looks through the Ideas file...

[Theresa] (That is a bad faith to lose...)
[Ftiskrand] "nothing... only something alligators related"
[Random_Nerd] It's mostly concepts or beliefs that Sparky's discarded over the years.
[Random_Nerd] A plan for a type of sandal that would be more comfortable for a canine foot, for instance.
[Random_Nerd] Or "I should totally have a Steak Dispenser in my room."
[Brian] (afk a bit)
[Theresa] (I know some guys who would like a Steak Dispenser.)
[Brian] (we HAVE a Steak Dispenser!)
[DanteE] "Calling it 'the Faith' would seem to indicate there's a pseudo-religious aspect to it...
[Random_Nerd] (Ftisk /made/ a Steak Dispenser.)
[Random_Nerd] (And some cows.)
[DanteE] (Anything on Mike or 'the Faith' in Ideas?)
[Random_Nerd] (One of the interesting things about flexible Gifts is the ability to go "Hey, I just realized I can turn insects into cows.")
[Ftiskrand] (yep)
[Random_Nerd] (Oh, one other thing in Ideas that might be relevant: "It is important to be a Good Dog.")
[Ftiskrand] (so he lost mike C rule and the be a good dog rule?)
[DanteE] "it is important to be a Good Dog..."
[Ftiskrand] "For a dog? sure"
[DanteE] "Most 'faiths' have scriptures.
[Theresa] "Wait, he lost the rule about being a Good Dog?"
[DanteE] "Ftisk? Think you can locate the Rules for Good Dogs?"
[Ftiskrand] "I can try"

  • Ftiskrand lDiv the rules about being a G. dog

[Random_Nerd] Walter: "For a dog with owners, with people? Yeah, it's important."
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "And this guy has a name."
[Random_Nerd] (Isn't part of Data.)
[DanteE] "While we're at it... did the thing about losing faith in Blessings wind up in here right after losing the idea about being a Good Dog?"
[Ftiskrand] (is not in a index here around?)
[Random_Nerd] (Nope.)
[Theresa] "Check the time stamp?"
[Random_Nerd] According to the datestamp, the one about being a good dog was lost several days earlier.
[Random_Nerd] Both were lost within the last week.
[DanteE] "This was only a week.
[DanteE] "... How long did Mike say his pack was dwindling?"
[Ftiskrand] "I believe, more than a week"
[Random_Nerd] (The last few weeks.)
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Maybe it's, like, a gradual thing. Because, I mean, I only felt like I'd forgotten something yesterday, the day before at the earliest."
[DanteE] "Right... it would make sense for it to be an effect centered on London and spreading out from there.
[DanteE] "Which means Mercurial dogs would get it long after it started."
[Brian] (b)
[Ftiskrand] "moon dog too"
[DanteE] "Hm. 'The faith' isn't here, but blessings and ideas about it are.
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "I wonder how many dogs have that blessing."
[DanteE] "That may indicate that 'the faith' was taken."
[Ftiskrand] "there is a database for the indexes?"
[DanteE] "... it can't have been destroyed, Walter got his back."
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "I think so."
[Random_Nerd] You hear a sound like someone opening the container to your right.
[Theresa] "Hmm..Ftisk, can you see how many dogs in the Index have lost that blessing?"
[Ftiskrand] (Kite, you can assembly one for us? So we can check these indexes?)
[DanteE] (Walter's?)
[Brian] (how clear is the sound? A0?)
[Random_Nerd] (Everyone can hear it.)

  • Brian will look out of the Vault.
  • DanteE checks to see who's there...
  • Ftiskrand fly to check
  • Kite also checks.

[Random_Nerd] A skinny woman in jeans and a black T-shirt, with an ID card on a lanyard around her neck, is rummaging through Walter's Intangibles file.
[Random_Nerd] When she sees all of you, she looks nervous, and backs up against the wall.
[Ftiskrand] "Why are you doing this?"
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "Who are you? Do you work here?"
[Random_Nerd] Walter sticks his head over: "It's okay. They're with me, and they have permission to be here."

  • DanteE LDivs what she's scared of...

[Theresa] "We're with Walter."
[Random_Nerd] (She's scared of the idea that some strangers seem to have broken in.)
[Theresa] "What are you looking for in Walter's stuff?"
[Random_Nerd] She picks up a clipboard from the ground.
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "Hey, Walter the Sheepdog? This your file?"

  • Ftiskrand go after Dante and change in giantSpiderFtisk

=-= YOU are now known as giantSpiderFtisk
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Yeah. What's up."
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "Give me a moment..."
[Random_Nerd] She goes back to the file and starts looking through it.

  • giantSpiderFtisk crawl on the roof

[DanteE] "We're Nobles. We know Ophaniel and Walter here."
[Random_Nerd] She pulls out something from the Blessings file.
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "Says here you can have this back."
[Random_Nerd] She tosses it to Walter.
[Random_Nerd] He catches it in his mouth, and it vanishes.
[DanteE] Aspect 3--what was it?
[Random_Nerd] She picks up her clipboard again, and makes a note.
[Random_Nerd] (It was identical to the one in Sparky's file that you looked at.)
[Random_Nerd] (Except for the date and the name.)
[Theresa] (The Mike Cook one?)
[Random_Nerd] (Yes.)
[DanteE] "That was the same Blessing of the Faith that Sparky lost
[Theresa] "Excuse me...how do you know when to give something lost back?"
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "Said on the list that it wasn't lost any more. I was supposed to take it to Shipping, but since Walter's right here, I figured I could save some time."

  • giantSpiderFtisk drop on the floor near the woman, at her right

[DanteE] "... did that come from Ophaniel?"

  • giantSpiderFtisk do happy claws sound

[Random_Nerd] Woman: "I don't know. Probably on some level it does, or at least from Lost Things."
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "I just work here, okay?"
[giantSpiderFtisk] "There is a Lost things noble?"
[Theresa] "Do you have a timestamp on when it became available?"
[DanteE] "OK."
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "Uh... says earlier today. Like, an hour ago."

  • giantSpiderFtisk do a web flower

[Random_Nerd] Woman: "Funny, that's pretty fast... oh, it was rushed because it belonged to someone on staff."
[Kite] "Oooh! How does one become part of the staff?"
[DanteE] "That would mean Ophaniel probably knows something about what's going on."
[Kite] "Or it's a staff perk."
[Theresa] "It's probably important for the staff to remember things when they need to."
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "I don't know how all the HR stuff works. I just got hired out of college."
[Theresa] (How long ago did we arrive in Chancel?)
[Random_Nerd] (About an hour ago.)
[Kite] "Is there a number to call?"
[giantSpiderFtisk] (can we be the vector of this 'infection of faith?)
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "Well, you could stop by HR... no, IR on your way out, I guess."
[Random_Nerd] (I don't know, could you?)
[Kite] "Inhuman Resources?"
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "Yeah. You don't look human to me. Are you?"
[Brian] "Some of us were"
[giantSpiderFtisk] "well.... more or less yep"
[Kite] "Heck, no!"
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "You Nobles?"
[Brian] "Aye"

  • DanteE looks at Ftisk...

[Theresa] *wave* "Hi, I'm Plants."

  • giantSpiderFtisk look back at Dante and wink

[Brian] "Numbers."
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "Oh. No, I don't think you can work here. Conflict of interests."
[Kite] To Dante: "He's more or less everything by now."
[DanteE] "Courage and Blades."
[giantSpiderFtisk] "Machinery"
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "But you guys get fast-tracked anyway."

  • giantSpiderFtisk give the flower to the woman

[DanteE] "Good to know."
[Random_Nerd] W: "If I take this, will it stick to me?"
[Kite] "Oh, that's nice. Thank you for all your hard work."
[giantSpiderFtisk] "No is not covered in sticky adhesive, is only silky like"

  • giantSpiderFtisk grin

[Random_Nerd] W: "Cool."
[Random_Nerd] She takes it, and puts it behind her ear.
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "You need any other help?"
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Does it say why that turned up as found?"
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "No. They never do. Don't you know that?"
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "I'm in Maintenance."
[Theresa] (Oh, they have a _why_ attached?)
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "Ah, okay."
[Theresa] (Oh, never mind.)
[Random_Nerd] (They don't, but Walter works in a different department and doesn't know that.)
[giantSpiderFtisk] (afk)
[Random_Nerd] Woman: "Anyway, I've got a lot to do. See you around the break room, Walter."
[Random_Nerd] (Oh, and Walter is talking in the prosaic world, since she showed up.)
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Sure. See you around."
[Brian] (that's not supposed to happen, is it?)
[Random_Nerd] She checks her list, and starts walking across the catwalk to the opposite row of containers.
[Random_Nerd] (Dogs generally do not speak, correct.)
[DanteE] What's she look like to Sight & Mythic?
[Random_Nerd] (To the Sight, dull grey of a baseline human. Mythically, her ID card looks like a silver star with seventeen points, and her glasses are made of silver rather than plastic.)
[Theresa] (I thought that the Angel had probably enabled him to talk to people in the chancel.)
[DanteE] "OK... what's the next step?
[DanteE] "Unless anyone has a better idea, we could go talk to Ophaniel...
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Whoa, you guys can just show up and talk with her?"
[Brian] "That's what we were headed for anyway ..."
[DanteE] "... although, first, I'm morbidly curious as to what's in my box."
[Kite] (Expensive glasses?)
[Brian] "Well, we might have to wait a little bit. But when we show up, it tends to be Important. The word of that's got around. Unfortunately."
[DanteE] "We met her already, Walter."
[Brian] "Also, I want to see what's in my box."
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "I don't have access to those."
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Besides, if you're not Staff, you can't see your own box, or hear the list of what's in it. If you did, you'd know where the stuff is."
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "The Excrucians try that sometimes, actually."
[Kite] "May we smell it?"
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "That's what the big alarm system is for."
[DanteE] "Nuts.
[Kite] "Smelling or Excrucians?"
[Theresa] *blink* "I bet a lot of stuff got shipped out for Excrucians lately..."
[Random_Nerd] Walter points his nose at a set of large alarm klaxons hanging from the ceiling.
[DanteE] "Oh well, off to see Ophaniel then...

  • DanteE makes sure everything in Sparky's box is put away.

[Brian] "I'd like to know what's there, not necessarily where it is. Intrigued by what I may have lost"
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "I don't know if we handle stuff for them directly. Not any sheep, at least."
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Well, when you're talking with the Big Boss, you can ask. I don't even vaguely have the authority to okay that, though."
[Brian] "Oh yeah, I wasn't planning to get you in trouble."
[Theresa] (Key word...planning.)
[Brian] (Brian NEVER plans!)
[Random_Nerd] Walter: "Anyway, shall we go back to the palace?"
[Brian] "Sounds good"
[giantSpiderFtisk] (back!)
[Theresa] "Sure, Walter."
[DanteE] (Anyone think of something else we can get from here?)
[Theresa] (So, who's going to be the one to pat down Kite on the way out?  :) )
[giantSpiderFtisk] (me? .. but why?)
[DanteE] (The one who currently has the most arms. :) )
[giantSpiderFtisk] (me!)
[Random_Nerd] (On an utter tangent, the "Faithful dogs can do anything to protect Mike Cook is why the bulldog was able to successfully get through to not one, but two Nobles.)
[Kite] (Kite will volunteer to pat himself down.)
[giantSpiderFtisk] (coooooooool)

  • giantSpiderFtisk pat Kite on the way down ... with as many as needed arms

[Brian] (I suspect also how they managed to do the Tauntaun thing)
[Random_Nerd] (Shall we cut to you guys seeing Ophaniel, or did you want to do anything on the way out?)
[Random_Nerd] (Yep.)
[Kite] "Brother, this is humiliating."
[Brian] (cut's fine)
[DanteE] (OK with cutting)
=-= YOU are now known as twodozenHandsFtisk
[twodozenHandsFtisk] "Why brother?"
[DanteE] (as Blades, of course I'm OK with cutting... :) )
[Theresa] (But everyone likes massages, Kite...)
[twodozenHandsFtisk] "We can stay near each other and cuddle a bit" *pat pat pat*
[Kite] (cutting's fine :))
[twodozenHandsFtisk] ('k with cut.. I have pieces to spare! )
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel is currently in what looks like a giant metal shop, having a large serrated blade that unfolds from her spherical mechanical body replaced with one that looks more like a ten-foot-long khopesh.
[Kite] "Oooooh!"
[Random_Nerd] Two technicians are guiding it into place while a third operates the crane.

  • twodozenHandsFtisk remember why Ophaniel is so beautiful!

[Random_Nerd] (Does everyone recall what Ophaniel looks like, or should I describe her again?)
[Brian] (I don't know if I was around for the initial meeting. I'd like a description)
[Theresa] (I remember. And I'd hate to be the construction worker that might drop her new piece.)
[twodozenHandsFtisk] (was a sphere like with bursting flames etc etc)
[DanteE] (big fire wheels, right?)
[Random_Nerd] (Pretty much. She looks like she's made of clockwork, with big gears going in various directions, various things that flip in and out, and a burning fire in the center.)

  • twodozenHandsFtisk spontanously change into something useful and merrily approach her!

[Random_Nerd] (She hovers in mid-air, with no obvious means of support. She's about ten yards across at the moment. The exact details of her size and machinery vary from encounter to encounter.)
[twodozenHandsFtisk] "Mistress, pleeeeease let me help you in this operation"
[Brian] (she's an Angel?)
[twodozenHandsFtisk] (yep angel)
[Random_Nerd] (Yes.)
[Random_Nerd] (Unfallen.)
[twodozenHandsFtisk] (Ftisk love her)
[Brian] (in which case)

  • Brian will bow

[twodozenHandsFtisk] (Ftis wag tail a looot before her... if he have a tail to wag)

  • DanteE bows as well... and tries to determine if we'll need a hose for Ftisk...
  • Kite also bows, but in respect to her shininess and not her angelness.

[Random_Nerd] (She looks like a cross between this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/Ezekiel%27s_vision.jpg (the one on the lower left), this: http://dvice.com/pics/Antikythera-Celestial-Machine.jpg and this: http://www.designverb.com/wp-content/images/2007/10/gadgetoff.hoberman.ball.jpg)
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "This is under control."

  • Theresa bows as well.
  • twodozenHandsFtisk deeply bow "As you wish"

[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "I prefer to do these things mundanely, when possible. Miracles are for emergencies and other special occasions."
[twodozenHandsFtisk] "But can I have the pleasure to mundanely help then?"
[Random_Nerd] A technician with a wrench tightens the new blade in place.
[DanteE] "If you'll forgive the term, are you gearing up for a fight?"
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Let them work, please."
[twodozenHandsFtisk] (damn too late)
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Yes."
=-= YOU are now known as Ftisk
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "The Warmains have been acting... peculiarly."
[Theresa] "Indeed. We have met with a few recently."
[Ftisk] "like what? Ah, before you ask, I tempered with one..."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "And speaking of which... has Ftiskaaaahk... yes."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "That's what I was referring to."
[Ftisk] "You want to fight me?"
[DanteE] (Well, Ftisk was peculiar before that, really... :D )
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "When did the original Ftiskaaaahk die? Recently?"
[Ftisk] "I'm the original one!"
[Ftisk] "I win the Warmain shard and melt with it. Not the other way!"
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Then... oh."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "That actually works?"
[Kite] "No. I watched the event myself. This is the same Ftiskaaaahk, though his name is now in a state of flux."
[Theresa] (I love that response. "Oh. Wait, it _worked_?!?")
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "What effects have you had, both mental and spiritual?"
[Ftisk] "I'm the proof that worked"
[Ftisk] "Urm.. I like the Warmains a bit more. felt compelled to leave the others from this excrucian unmolested"
[DanteE] "Well, they decided to parley right then.
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "And to what degree has your own mind changed?"
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "When they chose to parley, was there a reasonable chance that they could have killed at least one of you before dying themselves?"
[Ftisk] "Is hard to say, I can’t compare before and after. But I remain loyal to Vulcan"
[DanteE] "Yes. We had killed 2 of theirs, as well."
[Ftisk] "Yes the chance was reasonable, but the lost one with the tempering"
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Interesting. And did they say why they were suddenly willing to negotiate?"
[Theresa] "They had dealt some severe damage, although we lost some of the Wild Hunt pack in return."
[Ftisk] "For the tempering, they say that we can understand their way of doing things"
[DanteE] (You said why OOC...)
[Theresa] "They felt that Ftisk had shown respect to their fallen comrade by tempering him. They did not know that he had done it out of curiosity."
[Ftisk] "Hey Theresa, Curiosity is a very respectful reason!"
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "That's another thing. The Wild Hunt... what was your evaluation of him?"
[DanteE] (Does that mean Ftisk respects my underwear drawer? :) )
[Ftisk] (sure!)
[Random_Nerd] O: "He's strongly connected to one of my Estates, but I've never known quite what to make of him."
[Theresa] "He's very interesting. Good sense of humor and strong intelligence."
[Ftisk] "Is a dedicated excrucian fighter. A bit strange but I'm not the one that can say this"
[DanteE] (He's basically an Odin fanboy, but making something of it, right?)
[Random_Nerd] (Yeah.)
[Random_Nerd] (And it's not clear why what he did worked.)
[Theresa] (Plus, I pictured Ftisk tempering more of a 'Ooo, what does this button do?' than a noble response to the death of a fallen warrior.)
[DanteE] "He has taken the story of Odin to heart and is somehow gaining power from that.
[Ftisk] (right T. he was a tempering out of curiosity)
[DanteE] "But, he is a stalwart ally of Creation and a good hunter and ally."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Because... there isn't an Odin. I checked. And yet he's still drawing power from somewhere."
[DanteE] "... Odin did supposedly die during Ragnarok..."
[Ftisk] "Maybe there was... and he was excruciated and now remain some figments and he draw power from there?"
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "I'm old. Angel old. 'I was on the planning committee when they invented Time' old. And I don't remember there being an Odin."
[Ftisk] "Oh, you need a fresh boyfriend then"

  • DanteE facepalms...

[Ftisk] (like 3 yrs old)

  • Theresa hisses, "Ftisk, never remind a woman of her age."

[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Now, some of those myths connect to some real stuff. I'm pretty sure part of that is about Jan ben Jan. And I think Indra actually did some of the Thor myths. But there isn't an Odin."
[Theresa] "Could he be a sign of something to come?"

  • Ftisk hisses back to T. "do some private lesson later, mother heart"

[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Could be. It's Weird Shit Season. That's what this is for."
[Random_Nerd] She flexes her new blade.
[DanteE] "Need another blade?"
[Ftisk] "Sure the next age is coming..."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "I prefer to make them myself."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "But if you run across some good raw materials, I'd appreciate a nod."
[Theresa] (I like that forcast too. Weird Shit Season. That should come up in Shadow Creek.)
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "This, I ran across a Warmain who used a bronze spear. Wasn't abhorrent, but he used it well. I melted it down, and made this out of it."
[Brian] "We came to ask you about a man named Mike Cook."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "I don't think I know him."
[DanteE] "Something strange is happening with dogs, centered in London."
[Brian] "Yes, that's linked."

  • Kite is very specifically /not/ mentioning the molten silver.
  • Ftisk circle Ophaniel looking at her from all angles

[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "How strange?"
[Random_Nerd] (Oh, and Walter isn't here, he didn't want to come.)
[DanteE] "Dogs are losing, then finding, the 'faith' about how they must protect Mike."
[Random_Nerd] One of the technicians starts stropping the large bronze blade with a strip of leather.
[Brian] "And that they are able to self-Tauntaun to do so."
[Ftisk] "Or contact _2_ nobles"
[DanteE] "I can preserve that blade, if you want..."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "I know. No offense is intended, I merely have my own way of doing things."
[DanteE] "Of course."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "You lost me there, Numbers."
[Brian] "Ever see Empire Strikes Back?"
[Theresa] (*facepalm*)

  • Ftisk make a projector and show the tauntaun scene

[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "That was the one where the guy got embedded in the metal at the end?"
[Ftisk] And then the dog scene
[DanteE] "Maybe you can show what actually happened in the warehouse instead..."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Lost Things showed it to me once. I don't really see the appeal."
[Brian] (one of the Star Wars films made before an Excrucian took away George Lucas's restraint ...)
[Ftisk] (love this line Brian)
[DanteE] (Not even that. ESB was the one he had someone else write & direct.)
[Random_Nerd] (Which is why it's the best one.)
[DanteE] (Of course, he's said he thinks it's the worst one.)
[Brian] (he didn't direct VI, and I believe he had a team of scriptwriters too)
[Random_Nerd] (Lucas has talents, but he's not a filmmaking renaissance man. The more he tries to all do himself, the worse the end product is.)
[Brian] (IV was only as good as it was because of his editing gods.)
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "At any rate, the dogs... did something with a lightsaber?"
[DanteE] "No, they did that themselves with their own claws.
[Brian] "Sort of. They cut their own bellies open and shoved Mike in there and that keeps him alive. For 60 years so far."
[DanteE] "May have been doing it every few weeks for 60 years."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel contracts inward for a moment.
[Random_Nerd] The guy with the leather jumps back from the blade.
[Theresa] "They opened themselves, allowing this Mike Cook to wear them like a second skin."
[Kite] "I didn't get the reference, either."
[Random_Nerd] She expands again, and he starts stropping.
[DanteE] "Ftisk, show what happened in the warehouse."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "That's... very unusual. And these were normal dogs?"
[Ftisk] (already done before)
[Theresa] "From what we could determine."
[Brian] "Yep. Normal dogs."

  • Ftisk replay the scene in the projector

[Brian] "And it appears to be every dog that does not currently have a lost blessing."
[Random_Nerd] (Oh, on an utter tangent, that blessing is also why the normal dogs can learn to fly from the Wild Hunt dogs. Mike lives on the earth, and the Wild Hunt hunt Excrucian-shards.)
[DanteE] "Recently, though, millions of dogs have 'lost the faith' and will no longer do whatever is necessary to help Mike."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Is it just dogs losing faith?"
[DanteE] "So, there are really 2 mysteries.
[Brian] "Didn't know it was losing faith until we got here."
[DanteE] "Why do this for 60 years and why stop in the last few weeks."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "I've heard... rumors. Of something coming, that destroys faith and duty."
[Brian] "Would like to know who created that faith, too."
[Brian] "and ... that sounds ominous."
[DanteE] (Oh, crap. The prophecy.)
[Theresa] "Wait...Kudzu heard of something similar..."
[Ftisk] (and jink Dante)
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Oh?"
[Brian] (we had a prophecy?)
[Random_Nerd] O: "He didn't mention it. What did he hear?"
[DanteE] (the barkeep said it)
[Ftisk] (yep)
[Theresa] "Oh, wait, not Kudzu. We have a new oracle in our Chancel and then Kudzu was asking about it later. I became confused. Let me think carefully to quote correctly."
[Theresa] (*scroll scroll scroll*)
[DanteE] (doing the same thing... :) )
[Ftisk] (me too. not in 17 or 18)
[Kite] (Ctrl + F + Duty?)
[Theresa] (Found it!)
[Brian] (after midnight here. Would like to be closing up soonish.)
[Theresa] Bartender: "hanfananajijijakaiealala. These are the signs of the coming of the First King. Duty turns to affection and pride. Dedication turns to the seeking after pleasure. The will to live becomes the fear of death. Nananrihihihlanamape."
[Theresa] Bartender: "Sueridus. Shirk. Laininanaina."
[DanteE] (Here... Session 158+)
[Theresa] *repeats this for the Angel.*
[Random_Nerd] O: "Don't say that name."
[Ftisk] "Why?"
[Brian] "Which one?"
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Shirk's other name. Don't say it."
[Brian] "The L name?"
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Before that."
[Brian] "The other S name."
[Ftisk] "Oh, that one.. why?"
[DanteE] "We've... heard that name before..."
[Theresa] "Yes, ma'am."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Yes. That's the name of the King of an Unforgivable Dominion. He taints everything that he touches. It's unwise to speak his name, or think it, as your lips or thoughts may be damaged."
[Theresa] (Well, _fantastic_.)
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Where have you heard that name?"

  • Theresa slowly facepalms herself.

[Theresa] "A barkeep in our Chancel who has become an oracle by accident."
[Brian] "I'm not sure I've heard it before this Prophecy"
[DanteE] "And before that.....
[Ftisk] "me too?"
[DanteE] "Kudzu has -- or had -- a corrupt cult.
[Ftisk] "That was before I join this merry fellowship"
[DanteE] "When we tried to deal with it, one of the cultists mentioned ... that name ... as he dissolved."
[Kite] (brb)
[DanteE] to Theresa and Brian: "You remember, that's when we found the Giant Son-of-Azrael."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Cults aren't usually his method, but I'd still be wary of anything they said or did."
[Ftisk] "great"
[DanteE] (Er, Azrael or Azazel?)
[Brian] "I'm not entirely sure I remember."
[Ftisk] (first one?)(azazel)
[Random_Nerd] (Azazel, I believe.)
[Ftisk] (azazel from who's who)
[DanteE] (Hm... listed in the Who's Who as son of Azrael. Definitely need to check that...)
[Random_Nerd] (If I said Azrael, then that was probably a misstatement on my part.)
[DanteE] (I probably screwed it up when I put together the list)
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Azazel has a son?"
[DanteE] "Yes, he does."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "What's he like?"

  • DanteE realizes he may be screwing himself ... again ...

[Kite] (Or Azazel)
[DanteE] "7 feet tall, well-built, arrogant bastard.
[DanteE] "Derided us for being mostly animal."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Odd. Azazel likes humans. Oh. That's probably the problem, really."
[Theresa] "Jealous of...us?"
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Well... when I say the word 'human', what do you think of?"
[Ftisk] "Something with one head and 4 appendages"
[DanteE] "You mean the first humans, before breeding with animals, don't you."
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "He probably does, at least. Things were different back then."
[Kite] "I think of something shaped like Dante or Theresa, for the most part."

  • Theresa waves vines in Kite's direction. (Because my brain is oooooze...)

[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel: "Well, in a way, Dante and Theresa are human in the same way that seawater is made of stone."
[Random_Nerd] (We can stop. Here good?)
[DanteE] (Sure.)
[Ftisk] (ok for the snail)
[Random_Nerd] ________________STOP____________________
=-= Theresa is now known as BethE
=-= Kite is now known as Verithe
[BethE] I am only a teenytiny 'human'!
=-= YOU are now known as Angelo
[DanteE] So, the purpose of this chapter is to set the stage for the big fight at the end? :)
=-= DanteE is now known as Knockwood
[Random_Nerd] Heh.
[Angelo] big fight?
[Random_Nerd] Oh, yes. Walter is secretly a Warmain!
[Angelo] a deceiver!
[Knockwood] none of us have much humanity, going by the giant.
[Random_Nerd] Watch, as he reveals his TRUE FORM!
[Angelo] Hello kitty?
=-= Brian is now known as lazarus
[Angelo] well, I like the session
[lazarus] I see how you cleverly wove something that was kind of interesting into the main plot
[Knockwood] The Who's Who list needs corrections & maybe updating.
[Angelo] aaand T., Ophaniel is big enough to don't mind age hint... I wish
[Knockwood] Well, RN has been setting up a fight with Sueridus for a while now.
[lazarus] Just in case anyone was interested in Hellas (Greek Mythology IN SPACE!), I'll remind you of http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1269000670/hellas-princes-of-the-universe - the kickstarter succeeded, 45$ in the US, 55$ elsewhere will get you both hardcovers!
[Random_Nerd] Oh, Sueridas doesn't fight people.
[BethE] Such a good session!
[Random_Nerd] He gives gifts!
[lazarus] I still don't remember the name "Sueridas" coming up before.
[BethE] (He's like a GM. He gets other people to do his fighting!)
[Knockwood] kewl. PDF?
[Random_Nerd] It's come up at least twice.
[lazarus] I'd also like to look him up in the library or have Sam do looking up.
[Random_Nerd] Three times if you count the conversation with the Aides.
[Random_Nerd] You already did that.
[BethE] But his is the name that causes...you know...brain damage.
[Random_Nerd] Or at least, they did.
[lazarus] I mean, other than related to the Prophecy (kwd: both hardcovers, PDF of the supplement. You might be able to get the core PDF if you ask nicely too ;))
[Random_Nerd] Shortly after the bartender thing.
[Knockwood] He's also one of the Four Kings...
[BethE] (Well, guys, I need to get to sleep. But see you next week! *HUGS*)
[Verithe] Take care!
[Angelo] Hug beth!
[lazarus] night Beth!
[Knockwood] g'night Beth
|<-- BethE has left irc2.magicstar.net (Disintegrated: All shall love me and despair?)
[Angelo] and the other 3 kings who are?
[Angelo] 1 is Elvis, no dubt
[Knockwood] Let's see, the giant's father was Azazel, who used to be Weapons, right?
[Knockwood] Don and Rodney, Angelo. :)
[Random_Nerd] Yeah.
[Random_Nerd] And, because he was the son of Azazel, no weapon could be used against him.
[Verithe] Larry?
[Random_Nerd] You guys are assuming that Elvis is not the same person as Sueridas.
[Angelo] I'm assuming this, yes
[Knockwood] Heartbreak Hotel is outside Creation?
[lazarus] kwd: no, you're thinking of Hotel California.
[Random_Nerd] No, Hotel California /is/ Creation. As the Excrucians see it.
[Random_Nerd] And I suspect it's an open secret that Don Henley is an Excrucian.
[Knockwood] OK, so where does the Bohemian Rhapsody fit in?
[lazarus] Probably easier for me to just increase my skill list to include, like, Computers (Ship Systems) as its own row, instead of Computers.
[Random_Nerd] Freddie Mercury was just another one of Ziggy Stardust's human hosts.
[Random_Nerd] Great, now I want to bring in the Power of Spectacle to the game.
[Angelo] you have a long list
[Angelo] the orc camp is long overdue
[lazarus] wouldn't be any weirder than any others you've done
[Random_Nerd] Oh, yes, must have the throwdown with the Power of Orcs.
[lazarus] Gruumsh?
[Random_Nerd] He's mad because he just about got Excruciated, so he takes it out on everyone.
[Angelo] you know what, can work!
[Knockwood] You're bringing in Lady Gaga?
[Random_Nerd] I'm trying to resist bringing in Lady Gaga.
[lazarus] I can't decide if her variety of weird is Angel, Fallen Angel, or Excrucian.
[Random_Nerd] Wild.
[Knockwood] ah, there's the strip I was looking for: http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=537
[Random_Nerd] I mean, come on.
[Random_Nerd] That strip's even funnier if you know about Brian May's PhD.
[Random_Nerd] Brian May, who actually wrote Fat Bottomed Girls, really no shit in actually has a PhD in Astrophysics.
[Knockwood] hm... still looking over the "felicias are stupid" thread in RPOpen
[lazarus] I think I'm going to call it a night now. g'night folks. See y'all next week.
[Knockwood] g'night laz
[Angelo] night LAz!
<--| lazarus has left #Nobilis
[Random_Nerd] Anyway, good session, guys,.
[Angelo] yep I like Ophaniel aloofness
[Knockwood] it's an angelic thing, you wouldn't understand...
[Angelo] lol
[Random_Nerd] Or the "No offense, but I'm actually, literally, half again as old as dirt" bit?
[Angelo] yes, but LOVE can overcome these bits... :-P
[Knockwood] remind me to put a leash on Ftisk
[Random_Nerd] Ophaniel is nice, and she genuinely likes all of you, but she considers it to be so obvious as to not even be worth mentioning that you are lesser beings.
[Angelo] ok ,but, netherless Ftisk will continue to try to hit her... is his nature
[Random_Nerd] She's like someone who volunteers at the animal shelter, and really likes the dogs and tries very hard to take good care of them, but is never going to see one of them as a peer.
[Angelo] ok, next goal for Ftisk: become an imperator
[Random_Nerd] Heh.
[Knockwood] hm... did we figure out IC that JbJ was behind what the barkeep said?
[Verithe] Ftisk didn't even start out as human.
[Knockwood] or just OOC?
[Angelo] is a vantage for Ftisk, less burden
[Knockwood] oh, what do you think of my Blades and Courage numbers?
[Random_Nerd] Hmm.
[Random_Nerd] They seem good to me.
[Random_Nerd] I like they way they're spread out, instead of just two big things and one little one.
[Angelo] no, really, is possible, in your campaign that a Noble jump the fence to Imperator?
[Random_Nerd] I particularly like the Courage ones.
[Random_Nerd] Hmm...
[Random_Nerd] "You can try."
[Angelo] ah, definitely Ftisk will try then! ^_^
[Random_Nerd] Which is to say, I don't know offhand how you'd do it, but if you present me with a plausible method, I'll be willing to work with it.
[Knockwood] gotta give props to Wikipedia for that one
[Random_Nerd] Oh?
[Knockwood] level 20 in Red Box D&D and finish that Epic Quest (i.e., get the GM drunk)
[Angelo] ah, for machinery / assembly distinction. We go with assembly is a process machinery is something solid?
[Verithe] If you try to eat an Imperator's heart after tempering a Warmain, people might start being more concerned.
[Knockwood] RN: I was a little stuck until I looked up 'courage' on WP
[Random_Nerd] Oh?

  • Random_Nerd looks it up.

[Random_Nerd] Heh. That works.
[Knockwood] I like the bit about how eastern thought says courage comes from love
[Angelo] ? can someone explain?
[Random_Nerd] Oh, he was just using the wikipedia entry on "courage" to get ideas.
[Angelo] @V: well, appearance can lie
[Angelo] Ftisk _is_ a good guy in *his* way
[Random_Nerd] Anyway, g'night, all.
[Knockwood] good night RN
[Angelo] night RN!
[Verithe] Good night, RN!
|<-- Random_Nerd has left irc2.magicstar.net (Disintegrated: )
[Angelo] Knock, you really think we will fight Sureil?
[Knockwood] it's a good possibility.
[Angelo] we need an army then
[Knockwood] Well, think of the ways the Valde Bellum can be resolved...
[Angelo] oh! a nice heart to eat .. gnam!

  • Angelo rub hands

[Angelo] eh, the valde bellum was resolved?
[Knockwood] well, either we can figure out the whole sharing-estates thing, which will render it moot...
[Angelo] plan a ok
[Angelo] or?
[Angelo] fight fight 'till no excru remain?
[Knockwood] we can fight a huge battle, which would fit both the age end and the barkeep prophecy;
[Knockwood] or, something else big needs to happen
[Knockwood] RN has been hinting that the Exs are experiencing their own Armageddon scenario.
[Angelo] yes
[Knockwood] which means strengthening the wall probably won't do it.
[Angelo] reasonable
[Angelo] so or a peace
[Angelo] or death
[Angelo] or we can all temper and become the enemy!
[Knockwood] what we need to do is figure out what all the clues and hints RN has been giving us mean...
[Knockwood] which is part of what I've been trying to do with the index cards.
[Knockwood] our speculation ... OK, _my_ speculation is going all over the place.
[Angelo] is possible that there will be more that one possible answer.
[Angelo] RN is that kind of HG
[Knockwood] yeah, but that's still better than the big fat zero we have now
[Angelo] sure
[Angelo] but we have the hints
[Angelo] is not 0
[Knockwood] still not 1
[Angelo] yep
[Knockwood] and figure some have opposite signs.
[Knockwood] maybe we should go ahead and put together a command center
[Angelo] a joined Vulcan-Amyra one?
[Angelo] I totally agree!
[Angelo] V, what do you think?
[Verithe] An Amyra-Vulcan command center?
[Knockwood] we put in an AI, feed it everything that's happened so far and let it stew for a while.;
[Angelo] AI are outside my domain.. but in Vulcan there are some.
[Angelo] I can bring one from there
[Knockwood] Brian would do the AI
[Verithe] Sounds interesting. :)
[Knockwood] oh... that's right, you guys have AIs as part of your background.
[Angelo] and Verithe can assemble all together
[Angelo] yep Knw
[Knockwood] I wonder if RN would let us do a joint Domain-Realm miracle
[Angelo] uhm
[Angelo] why Realm?
[Angelo] Machinery for machines, Assembly to bring all together, Number for the smartness and then?
[Knockwood] we need a big room with a map and a load of blinking lights to put it in
[Angelo] machines, and plant for a wood place.
[Knockwood] plus, it would also monitor the Chancel, presumably.
[Verithe] Map = Plants; Blinking lights = Machines
[Verithe] Room = Easy
[Verithe] Take over some random building.
[Angelo] yep
[Verithe] Convention hall or gymnasium, maybe.
[Angelo] someone not rebuild after the Rabbit incident ...
[Knockwood] It would need to be near the tower...
[Knockwood] possibly under it
[Angelo] under?
[Knockwood] (we can have a sliding pole like in a firehouse! :) )
[Angelo] well, Ftisk can create the heavy machine and kite do the building work
[Knockwood] ..unless there's a permanent portal...
[Verithe] Tower's on a college campus, yes? There should be at least one gymnasium, auditorium around there.
[Angelo] that was one of the original option that I trow in back then
[Angelo] no wait
[Angelo] the portal was form Vulcan to Amyra
[Angelo] well I'm fry as a potato.
[Knockwood] hm?
[Knockwood] oh, brain-fried
[Angelo] yep
[Knockwood] I'm going to refrain from a 'Don't you start out that way?' line.... whoops. :)
[Angelo] so we'll see next week... 'till then take care!
[Angelo] no, Ftisk is fry from the start
[Knockwood] cya next week Angelo
[Angelo] the puppeteer not... usually
