Chancel_Amyra
Chapter 35

=-= User mode for Angelo is now +ix

-->| YOU (Angelo) have joined #Nobilis

<lazarus> (btw. New XCOM? Got it last week ... between Sara and I, we have 42 hours played so far ...)

<Angelo> hi all! :-)

<lazarus> hey Angelo!

<Etheric> Well, here's a question -- is this guy really making courage unnecessary, or just making people believe it isn't?

<Verithe> Angelo!

<Verithe> Hi!

<Etheric> Because it seems to me, a lot of people are dying with this plan of his...

<Angelo> laz, Verithe

<Etheric> Hey there Angelo.

<Angelo> Ciao Etheric :-)

<Random_Nerd> It's a warzone. A lot of people are gonna die. Just... different people.

<Angelo> I'm happy to, finally, see you all

<Angelo> is everyone fine?

<lazarus> I am!

  • Angelo go around shaking hands and patting shoulders

<Etheric> More or less.

<Random_Nerd> So.

<BethE> Hi Angelo! Getting any sleep?

<Verithe> I'm so-so.

<Random_Nerd> This is to be Amyra. We are short Knock, but... I'm kinda sick of cancelling sessions because we're missing someone who's involved in the plot of the current one.

<BethE> And it seems that mostly only natives are dying, not the UN soldiers.

<Angelo> yep Beth! Deathline is passed so return to normal 8hours at day at work :-)

<BethE> Yay!

<Random_Nerd> Well, some of them are. Just... less.

<Random_Nerd> (For that matter, a lot of the insurgents aren't actually from that country.)

<Angelo> so the excru tactics can be seen as effective in this scenario

<Random_Nerd> Yeah. I mean, it's working.

<Etheric> Either way, we defuse their Rite if courage starts being effective again, right?

<BethE> Which is why it's hard to fight! It's doing good for the soldiers! And he's well-reasoned!

<Random_Nerd> Well, it has to be... let me see the wording.

<Verithe> Hmmm....maybe we should check with our Aides to see if there are any Nobles of Fear who might want to take action as well....

<Angelo> AND Ftisk feel sympathy with the excru !_!

<Random_Nerd> It has to be essential to self-sacrifice and to "the truth."

<Random_Nerd> Or, this thing that's happening has to be somehow turned into a kind of courage.

<Random_Nerd> Or... something I haven't thought of yet.

<BethE> I like the idea of turning it into a kind of courage.

<Angelo> me too Beth

<Etheric> Is it possible to do that without a Courage miracle, I wonder?

<Angelo> is ... tricky?

<Random_Nerd> Yes. That.

<Etheric> I mean, if nothing else, we can try various things and see if it helps...

<lazarus> perhaps the best way to handle this is to show them they're really still afraid of death, even if they rationally believe that it won't happen

<Random_Nerd> Are they, though? How could you tell?

<lazarus> that is the tricky question - but how much does that have to be to metaphysics?

<Angelo> they subdue to the ritual to avoid fear is a statement that fear _is_ there

<BethE> Courage:

<BethE> is motivating [2]

<BethE> is inspiring [1]

<BethE> counters fear [2]

<BethE> is essential to (self-)sacrifice [1]

<BethE> is essential to the truth

<BethE> counters mindless fleeing or cowering [1]

<Etheric> Huh, good point, Angelo...

<lazarus> (are we supposed to know what property they're attacking? we-as-players, I mean? I can't remember)

<Random_Nerd> (Not really.)

<Angelo> can this link to Courage: counter fear

<Random_Nerd> (Dante knows how he defines Courage. But you guys... probably not? Would you have talked to him about it?)

<Angelo> (Ftisk will have not, definitely :-( )

<Random_Nerd> Well, the idea here is that what he does removes fear as an emotion. So it's not there for courage to counter.

<BethE> Well, taking the dude's words, he's attacking 'counters fear' definitely. Maybe the last three.

<BethE> Huh. What if we found a way where one is courageous without fear?

<Etheric> A decent question. Saying courage counters fear isn't the same thing as saying it's meaningless without fear.

<Etheric> After all, light counters darkness without needing darkness to exist...

<Angelo> but light don't state explicitly the it counter darkness

<Etheric> Doesn't it? It might.

<Etheric> Either way, our characters at least have the general idea that he's undermining courage by eliminating fear.

<Random_Nerd> To some degree attacking "counters fear" and to some degree the two "is necessary" ones.

<Angelo> right

<Etheric> Why don't we take the discussion IC? Dante being incapacitated would actually be rather appropriate, with the Flower Rite ongoing.

<Random_Nerd> So far, you guys's approach has been to arguing him into believing that what he's doing is bad, and he should stop.

<BethE> So, truth, self-sacrifice and fear.

<BethE> And it hasn't worked at all.

<Etheric> I am not surprised.

<Angelo> beating some sense in him, the old fashioned way will help?

<Random_Nerd> It could. Want to find out?

<Angelo> IF we'll find out dibs on his heart!

=-= lazarus is now known as Brian

=-= Etheric is now known as Carrie

=-= YOU are now known as Conrad

=-= Verithe is now known as Kite

=-= BethE is now known as Theresa

<Conrad> (kite or humankinte?)

=-= Kite is now known as human-Kite

<Theresa> (And Ftisk is still a parrot?)

<human-Kite> (Thanks! I almost forgot.)

<Conrad> don’t remember, ty)

=-= YOU are now known as parrotTisk

<Random_Nerd> Anything else before we start?

<parrotTisk> on witch shoulder I was?

<human-Kite> I don't recall.

<Theresa> Doesn't matter.

<Random_Nerd> Pick one!

  • parrotTisk fly in circles around and land on Carrie's shoulder

<Random_Nerd> And Dante is currently "reeling from the pain of estate-friction" in a way we will specifically try to not think about too much, because to do so would be an attack on Guarding The Horses.

<Random_Nerd> _____________START___________________

<Random_Nerd> "So, I don't really see why I should stop what I'm doing."

<Theresa> (Do we know what _he_ thinks Courage is?)

<Brian> "Because."

<Random_Nerd> ("Obselete.")

<Random_Nerd> "Because /what/, though?"

<Brian> "Not because /what/, but because /why/"

<parrotTisk> *squeack* "Because!"

<Random_Nerd> He paces.

  • parrotTisk clean some feathers

<Carrie> "You say that your way is better, because fear is unnecessary, and therefore courage is obsolete. Do I understand you correctly?"

<Random_Nerd> "Yes. This way gets less of my guys killed."

<Brian> "But what happens to the fear after acknowledging that it is unnecessary?"

<Random_Nerd> He gestures vaguely. "Can't you guys /see/ how everyone is just.... doing it /wrong/?"

<Carrie> "How so, wrong?"

<Random_Nerd> "It's just... you can't see it? I couldn't, either, but now it's just so obvious."

<Brian> "Um. No?"

<Brian> "How is it obvious. Explain it, please. I'm curious."

<Random_Nerd> "All this. All this /stuff/. It's just wrong. It gets in the /way/ of what's really there."

<Theresa> (_Duuuude._)

<Random_Nerd> (Oh, and the reason that the Noble of Fear isn't here is that his estate isn't actually under attack. Sure, fear is being locally opposed. But it's not being made to turn on itself.)

<Carrie> (Right, Deceiver...)

<Random_Nerd> "See, there's the world as it really is, what's really going on. But there's all these /things/ layered on top of it, and they make it so we can't see straight."

<Random_Nerd> "I used to think Buddhism was pretty crazy, all that world-denying stuff. But they're on to something. Can't you see it?"

<Brian> "No?"

<Brian> "All I can say is ... you're wrong?"

<parrotTisk> "Fear is a healthy thing, it help you react to the violence you are the target of"

<Carrie> "Strip away too many layers and you have lost what you originally seek."

<Brian> (hrm. Maybe we can make /him/ afraid that his philosophy won't spread, and then have the courage to try spreading it anyway ... that would be a neat solution!)

<parrotTisk> "avoid you avoid reaction"

<Random_Nerd> "There are other ways to react."

<Random_Nerd> "Sure, the adrenaline-response is useful in /some/ situations. When you need to run away from a bear, say."

<Random_Nerd> "But when what you need to do is correctly drive a truck, or shoot a gun, or give CPR?"

<parrotTisk> "Polly want a biscuit aside, fear is the bases, fastest, sharedest reaction in human and not humans being"

  • human-Kite messages Gil, either by brain or by Tinker-Toys: "Is there a Noble of Fear we could contact?"

<Random_Nerd> "Sure. And in today's world, it's so counter-productive, isn't it? It hurts things we need, and helps stuff that only rarely matters."

<Brian> "Then you want Courage. Courage surpasses fear"

<Random_Nerd> (A question. After this, when we do the "play as your minions" storyline, will you want to use Gil?)

<parrotTisk> (after this wasn't Ftisk turn to fight his estate attack?)

<Random_Nerd> "But your hands are still shaking, and your heart is beating too fast, and you've got tunnel vision!"

<human-Kite> (I....<3.....yes!))

<parrotTisk> "Tunnel vision is a type of television?"

<Brian> "Not necessarily. Only if you let the fear response overwhelm you."

<Random_Nerd> "That's like saying that the best way to keep from getting killed by a tiger is to learn to ride tigers. No. The best way to avoid being killed by tigers is to make sure there /aren't any tigers attacking you/."

<Carrie> "And yet if you eliminate fear, you eliminate the very impulse to avoid threats."

<Brian> "As our currently-unconscious brother would say, courage is the way you make sure there aren't any tigers. By stabbing them with swords."

<Theresa> "But what if you're supposed to be fighting tigers?"

<Carrie> "You aren't getting rid of tigers, just making them invisible."

<parrotTisk> "But tigers, in you example are like biscuits, anyone _NEED_ some around!"

<Brian> (... no, he wouldn't say that. Ssh.)

<Random_Nerd> "Nah. There's other reasons. Even calm people know that being killed would make their family sad, being shot would hurt."

<Random_Nerd> (You anchored Gil, right?)

<human-Kite> (Yes)

<Theresa> "What if they don't care about being shot? An example of someone believing that they're dead already, so who cares if they get shot at? Is that courage or delusion?"

<Random_Nerd> "Are they?"

<Random_Nerd> "Dead already, I mean."

<Theresa> "Does it matter?"

<parrotTisk> "And so why being fear lees (or want biscuitless or any other emotion-less for the mater) is a state needing specialized help?"

<Random_Nerd> When you drop into Gil's head, he's somewhere in Amyra. He's scared, clearly.

<Random_Nerd> To Ftisk: "Hmm?"

<Random_Nerd> And to Theresa: "Sure it matters. If you believe true things for good reasons, it's not delusional. If you don't..."

  • human-Kite "Gil? What's wrong?"

<Random_Nerd> Gil: "Boss, this really isn't a good time. What do you need?"

<parrotTisk> "I'm talking of sociopath peoples that can relate to others and/or are working bad in a society (like anyone not wanting a biscuit, parrotTisk want a biscuit!)"

<human-Kite> "Tell me if why you're scared is something that I can help with. Otherwise, I need to know if there is a Noble of Fear we can contact and how to do so."

<Random_Nerd> Gil: "And... is there anything special I need to do in a hostage situation? I came over to Amyra because they asked, but I don't see how I'm being of any..."

<Theresa> "How would you finish that? "If you believe true things for bad reasons, it's delusional'? 'If you believe false things for good reasons, it's delusional'? 'If you believe false things for bad reasons, you're delusional.'?"

  • Theresa will give Ftisk a whole grain biscuit.

<human-Kite> "Hostage situation?

<Random_Nerd> Chaplain: “Don’t sociopaths still experience fear?”

<Random_Nerd> (Huh. Weird.)

<Random_Nerd> Chaplain, to Theresa: “You can be delusional and correct, I suppose. Like, the guy with the delusion that his wife is cheating on him, who drives her so nuts that she actually does it to get back at him.”

  • parrotTisk love Theresa and munch happily the biscuit!

<Theresa> "So it becomes true after the fact."

<Random_Nerd> Gil: “We’re on it. We know you guys have, like, /two/ attacks on reality going on. Just... what do you need?”

<parrotTisk> "that is a short circuit of the delusional situation!"

<Random_Nerd> Chaplain: “It can.”

<Random_Nerd> (One moment. Let me reload my IRC program.)

|<-- Random_Nerd has left irc2.magicstar.net (Disintegrated: )

-->| Random_Nerd (Random_Ner@MagicStar-49CDADDD.hsd1.il.comcast.net) has joined #Nobilis

  • parrotTisk wait and munch cheerily

<Random_Nerd> (Let's see...)

<Random_Nerd> ("")

<Random_Nerd> (Okay, it worked.)

<human-Kite> "Just info on a Noble of Fear. If you need any help on the hostage situation, I can pass info on to Theresa or Brian."

<Theresa> "But there is always the point that it was not true until she made it true. It was not true to begin with and would not have become true if he had not driven her to it."

  • parrotTisk nod nod to T.

<Random_Nerd> Chaplain: "I... I don't really know where you're going with that."

<parrotTisk> (brb)

<Random_Nerd> Chaplain: "If this is just a chance to have circular conversations about the nature of delusion, I really have more important things to do."

<Theresa> "It is a delusion, but only because he denies the truth."

<Brian> "are you afraid of a circular conversation about the nature of delusion?"

<Theresa> "He does not have the courage to face the truth."

<Random_Nerd> Chaplain: "Afraid? Or bored?"

<Brian> "Because it sure looks like you're running away."

<Brian> (... *pokes the scrunchie* ...)

<Random_Nerd> Chaplain: "No, it's not a delusion because he denies the truth. It's because, even if he's right, it's by chance. The difference between a marksman and a lucky shot."

<Random_Nerd> Chaplain: "This is rapidly growing childish."

<Theresa> "And yet the target is still dead."

<Random_Nerd> C: "So... what's your point, exactly?"

<Theresa> "What would you consider evidence of your truth?"

<Random_Nerd> C: "Which truth? What are we talking about, at this point?"

<Theresa> "The truth of your belief about fear and courage."

<Random_Nerd> C: "If you mean that my way is better... how about that less of my guys die, and they seem to get less PTSD?"

<Random_Nerd> C: "That looks an awful lot like evidence from where I'm standing."

<Random_Nerd> (Kite, what's the last thing you said to Gil?)

<Brian> "How does their effectiveness compare?"

<human-Kite> "Just info on a Noble of Fear. If you need any help on the hostage situation, I can pass info on to Theresa or Brian."

<Theresa> "I guess they're just lucky. They're still getting shot at. They're still seeing people die. They're still away from their families and normality. You're not keeping them completely sheltered. And this may just be considered a fluke. A lucky time when the natives go nuts. I hear fungus can do that."

<Random_Nerd> Gil: "I think we can handle this. Noble of Fear. Uh... I'll go get William's books. Check with me in fifteen minutes?"

<Brian> "Have you seen what slime molds can do? They're fantastic!"

<human-Kite> "Thank you, Gil.

<Carrie> "So if in the long run your methods caused more deaths... you'd agree that they're worth changing?"

<Random_Nerd> C: "Deaths of who?"

<Random_Nerd> C: "I'm only responsible for my guys, here."

<Theresa> "Wow, that's pretty lucky of them. They have you. All of the other squads don't."

<Theresa> "They are your monkey sphere."

<Random_Nerd> C: "Some... gentleman... with an improvised bomb... I'm not too concerned if he gets shot."

<Theresa> "Would you give your life for your guys?"

<Random_Nerd> C: "I'm still learning how to do this properly. I've only even known that there were other supernatural beings for, like, a week. But I'm trying to work out ways to make this better."

<Random_Nerd> C, to Theresa: "Hmm. Depends on the circumstances. I don't think the situation would arise, though. I mean, I'm pretty hard to hurt, now."

<Theresa> "Yeah, I mean, someone could drop a bomb on this place and you'd be the only one to survive."

<Random_Nerd> C: "I'm still learning what I can do, now. But I hope that we can spread this past just us, long-term>"

<Random_Nerd> C: "Can you help?"

<Random_Nerd> C: "Drop a bomb how? They have pipe bombs, not bombers."

<Theresa> "Who said that it was the locals?"

<Random_Nerd> C: "Are you threatening me? Or... the

<Random_Nerd> troops I'm looking after, I guess?"

<Carrie> "Of course not! We're discussing hypotheticals here."

<Random_Nerd> He looks a bit angry, for the first time.

<Theresa> "Nope. Just wondering how much your commitment to them extends. Because they're all going to have to go home. And will your influence fade."

<Brian> "Hm. Anger. An emotional response."

<Theresa> "On the one hand, if your influence fade, their memories of their time here are still there."

<Random_Nerd> C: "Still working on that one. After I finish with fear, it should probably be next."

<Theresa> "If it doesn't, they could get themselves into big trouble back in the civvy world."

<Brian> "So you're working on being bland?"

<Random_Nerd> C: "So far... sometimes, when I do it, it fades. Sometimes, it doesn't. I'm not fully sure of why, yet. Do you know?"

<Brian> "How boring. Droll."

<Random_Nerd> C: "Not bland. Calm."

<Brian> "Like I said. Bland."

<Theresa> "It's dependent on you. How your feelings and beliefs are."

<Brian> "I try it from time to time. Never holds for long."

<Random_Nerd> C: "Many emotions are useful things. But fear? Anger? Do you really think the world is better because of them?"

<Carrie> "I think that a world without them would be a foreign place."

<Theresa> "Fear of the loss of your loved ones, so you hold them tight in your mind and heart? Anger against injustice?"

<Random_Nerd> C: "Yes. And a /better/ place."

<Theresa> "Why be angry at how the world is? It's better to just be calm and let it flow around you?"

<Random_Nerd> C: "You don't have to be afraid of something to work to prevent it. If you had heart surgery, would you prefer that the surgeon was afraid?"

<Brian> "Anger has driven revolution."

<Brian> "I actually would. Fear focuses."

<Random_Nerd> C: "Yes, anger is more complicated. It may have favorable characteristics. Like I said, I'm still working on it."

<Theresa> "I would prefer that the surgeon be cautious. I would prefer he be not arrogant. And I would prefer that he had a medical degree."

<Carrie> "In any case, it seems we won't convince one another. I wonder, though, if some sort of proof might be set up."

<Theresa> "So you believe that fear has no favorable characteristics? And thus neither does courage?"

<Random_Nerd> C: "Look, if you want to help me do this properly, please, your help is welcome. But if you're just going to say that what I'm doing is wrong... why, because it goes against some religion of yours that I've never heard of..."

<Random_Nerd> (Okay, I have a question. Are all of you talking over each other, right now? What would this scene look like, as a live action thing?)

<Brian> (It would look like MASH, the movie.)

<Carrie> (Er, huh. I'm not sure.)

<Random_Nerd> C: "I'm not even sure what you want to convince me of."

<human-Kite> (Kite is done talking to this guy.)

<Theresa> *points at Dante* "He is Courage, embodied. You are killing him. We want to convince you to stop killing him."

<Random_Nerd> C: "It seems like you know your conclusion, that I should stop, but you're trying to make up reasons after the fact."

<Random_Nerd> C: "Well, I bear him no ill will. But isn't there some other way that he can be saved?"

<Random_Nerd> C: "And if there isn't... I guess I'm not personally responsible for him. I am, for the guys that I'm looking after. I have a duty to them."

<Brian> "If you agree that your approach is, in fact, courageous without fear, that may help."

<Theresa> "Each of us embodies a different aspect of the universe. He defines what courage is. He would have to change the definition of courage."

<Random_Nerd> C: "Then talk to him, not to me."

<Theresa> "And you understand that we have a duty to him. We would, but your attack has caused him to lose consciousness in a way that makes us unable to communicate with him in any way."

<Theresa> "So, we have to work with what we have. You understand?"

  • human-Kite is pondering enlisting some soldiers in an Assembly of a poorly-constructed bomb.

<Random_Nerd> C: "So... where do we go from here?"

<Brian> (kite: doo eet)

<Random_Nerd> C: "You haven't convinced me, and I haven't convinced you."

<Brian> "You haven't stated anything other than zen."

<Theresa> "Yep. And we can't communicate with Dante. And if he dies, all Courage does. Even the stuff about it that you like."

<Random_Nerd> C: "Well, we can make a better one after it does, then."

<Carrie> "If it worked that way, the world would yet be a much richer place..."

<Random_Nerd> C: "The courage and fear that we have now are pretty well adapted to life as a caveman, maybe. But not to the world we live in."

<Random_Nerd> C: "Let's get rid of them, and make something better. Join me, I need the help."

<human-Kite> ((I forgot what level that would be...))

<Random_Nerd> (Hmm. What do you want to do?)

<Theresa> "So, you want us to kill our brother and friend?"

<Carrie> "Then what kind of courage would you say is fitting for the world we now inhabit?"

<Random_Nerd> C: "What I'm advocating, if you want to call it courage. Calm assessment of the situation, and taking right actions in accordance with your goals."

<Theresa> "So, if it's not calm, it's not courage? How would you enforce this calm?"

<Random_Nerd> C: "So far, I have to talk to people to get them to see it this way. Maybe there's another way."

<human-Kite> ((I would like it to cause some of the Chaplain's soldier friends to Assemble a bomb....poorly....and blow themselves up. Further away from this tent.))

<Random_Nerd> C: "I'm still learning about how all this works. So, how many kinds of supernatural creature are there?"

<Random_Nerd> (Hmm. Creation, probably.)

<Random_Nerd> (So, level 4 miracle.)

<human-Kite> ((I've got Domain five, so can I add 2 DMP to bump it up to 7?))

<Carrie> "More than you or I could count... although I suppose there are a number of broad, distinct kinds."

<Random_Nerd> (What do you want to do with that?)

<Random_Nerd> (Have them make it very quickly?)

<Theresa> "Multiple kinds. Some are entrusted humans or what used to be human. Brian probably knows. He's Numbers." (The C can hear the capital letter.)

<Random_Nerd> C: "Like, you aren't the same kind as me? And what kind are the ones with no skin? Like me? Like you?"

<Brian> "The ones with no skin are different things."

<parrotTisk> (back)

<Brian> "Where do you find them?"

<human-Kite> ((Just to make the miracle more powerful.....am I forgetting how Strike works?))

<Theresa> (He's talking about his Excrucian buddy, I think.)

<Carrie> (Would I know what he means by no skin?)

<Random_Nerd> (To make it difficult for other miracles to counter?)

<parrotTisk> (actuals?)

<human-Kite> ((Yeah))

<Random_Nerd> C: "One showed up about a week ago. It watched me, and nobody else seemed to notice it, and then it went away."

<Random_Nerd> C: "So, what was that?"

<Carrie> (If he's an Anchor, and not a shard, would he still have those stars in his eyes?)

<Random_Nerd> (He would not.)

<Theresa> (Wait a minute. We know someone with no skin...)

<human-Kite> ((Could it be Martyrs?))

<Random_Nerd> (She's sometimes missing a lot of skin.)

<Carrie> (She would have an interest here, wouldn't she...)

<human-Kite> (A bit, yeah.)

<Theresa> (The dude has been creating a lot of martyrs out of the natives.)

<parrotTisk> (let's call her and ask then)

<Theresa> (Stupid martyrs, but none the less...)

<Carrie> "I don't know for sure, but that may have been another of our kind. If so, she is unique."

<Random_Nerd> C: "So, like you, not like me?"

<Theresa> "Possible. There's lots of different supernatural beings out there, all of the time. Better chance that it's like us than you. It's easier to tell your side by the stars in the eyes. Ftisk, here, has one, because he's part your group."

<Random_Nerd> C: "How many more of you are there, out there?"

<parrotTisk> "Some thousands?"

<parrotTisk> (exist a nobles census?)

<Random_Nerd> (Nope. The Aides try, but theirs is very incomplete.)

<parrotTisk> (aka did 3ed say something on Nobles number on heart?)

<Random_Nerd> C, to Ftisk: "And of me and you? How many are there of us?"

<Carrie> "On Earth, hundreds, to be certain. On all the worlds, thousands, most probably."

<Random_Nerd> (Even if it does, it might not be canon in this game.)

<parrotTisk> "Our kind numbers are unknown but I feel an order less is reasonable so some hundreds"

<Random_Nerd> C: "So... you've said your piece. I've said mine. But I really do have work to do."

<Random_Nerd> (So, Kite, do you still have the guys make the bomb?)

<Random_Nerd> (How many people do you want it to kill?)

<Theresa> (Argh. I feel like I'm completely missing something about how to convince this guy and I _can't_.)

<human-Kite> (Yes....maybe 10-12ish.)

<parrotTisk> (me too is so hard to talk reason to him!)

<Carrie> "Very well. If we come up with a way our purposes might still mesh, we may return."

<Random_Nerd> (And if you do it as a greater creation, you can have it built really fast, so... pretty much it goes off whenever you want it to.)

<Carrie> "Thank you for your time and patience."

<Random_Nerd> (Say when.)

<Theresa> (And now I'm feeling bad because of suggesting a bomb.)

<Random_Nerd> He nods. "It was interesting to meet you. Let's talk again, in a week or two."

<Theresa> "If our brother is still alive."

<human-Kite> (That works for me. It can detonate once we leave.)

<Random_Nerd> C: "Is there anything I can do to help with that, without stopping what I'm doing for my guys?"

  • Theresa motions to Brian to help pick up Dante. "Who gets to drive? Not Ftisk."

<parrotTisk> "Whhhyyyyyy not meeee?"

<human-Kite> "Me!

<Brian> "Ftisk, you'll just drive it into a dragon again."

<Carrie> "If there is, I mean to find out."

  • Carrie curtsies.

  • parrotTisk land on T. ashamed

  • human-Kite flounces out to the car.

<human-Kite> "I want to be the driiiiiverrrrrrr!"

<Random_Nerd> (Say "boom" when you want it to go off.)

<Theresa> "Unless you know a way that you can counter fear, tell truth and counter fleeing or cringing without making courage absolutely irrelevant and helpless, we would appreciate it." *holds out hand to him* "Thank you for protecting your group."

<Brian> "Carrie, you get to drive this time."

<Random_Nerd> C: "I... will think of that. Is there a way I can contact you, if I do?"

<Carrie> "Me? Alright."

<Random_Nerd> He reaches out to shake your hand.

  • human-Kite sighs

  • Brian will shake his hand.

  • parrotTisk stay camped on T shoulder

  • Theresa creates a card in her hand with a 'contact me once' plant prayer on it. "Here. Good for a call. I'm Plants, by the way."

<Random_Nerd> He takes it.

<Theresa> (The bomb thing is making me queasy.)

<human-Kite> (Awww)

<Random_Nerd> C: "Ah... okay. I'm Jeremy."

<Random_Nerd> He starts to walk off again.

<human-Kite> "Let's go!

<Theresa> "And I'm Theresa. I don't suppose that we could just have a physical fight and if I win, you put off using your stuff until we can find a way to save my brother?"

<parrotTisk> "Mud fight!"

<human-Kite> "We need to deal with Ftisk's problem!"

<Random_Nerd> C: "How would violence settle anything?"

  • Carrie hushes Ftisk.

<Random_Nerd> C: "You can't punch your way through a philosophical disagreement."

<parrotTisk> "Mud fight are entertaining!"

<Theresa> "It would make me feel like I'm doing _something_ to save my brother!"

<parrotTisk> "Show the Hand T.!"

<Random_Nerd> C: "Look, you want to save him, and I want to save the guys who I'm supposed to be caring for."

<Theresa> "You wanted to save your group, I want to save him and I can't and thus I'm trying to buy him some more time!"

<Random_Nerd> C: "Are you arguing that his life is more important?"

<Theresa> "_Every_ life is important!"

<parrotTisk> yolder style: "YES!"

<human-Kite> "That's a ways away. We need to hurry if we're going to make the.....plane....thing."

<parrotTisk> "I'm not you" *point to Jeremy* "once was"

<Random_Nerd> (Some of your art's in it, isn't it, V?)

<human-Kite> (Yes)

<Random_Nerd> Jeremy: "So, how did you become able to do things, like make that card?"

<Theresa> *creates an apple* *hands it over* "I was chosen by my Imperator, my boss. And I became Plants."

<Random_Nerd> Jeremy: "Ah. Different, then. Me, I saw something. Which is why you can't make me doubt that people will still be important, without all the stuff."

<Brian> "What did you see?"

<Random_Nerd> Jeremy: "How things really are. Just for a moment, though."

<Random_Nerd> J: "And after that, my eyes looked like this, and I can do things."

<Brian> "I need to know. What /exactly/ did you see?"

<Random_Nerd> J: "Words don't... really work. But it's how everything really is, under all the /stuff/."

<parrotTisk> "Can I read from your mind that experience?"

<Random_Nerd> J: "The world is what it is, but there are all these... /things/ imposed over it. Layers, filters, whatever. And they keep it from being what it's supposed to be."

<Random_Nerd> J: "It's like... have you seen a tree that had fence wire wrapped around it?"

<Random_Nerd> J: "And it distorted how it grew?"

<Random_Nerd> J: "It's like that."

<Random_Nerd> J, to Ftisk: "I don't know. Can you?"

<human-Kite> "Carrie, may we drive quickly? My brother is in pain."

  • parrotTisk stay on Carrie shoulder and suggest to roadkill all the ones we meet, for lulz"

<Random_Nerd> (So, Kite, when does the bomb go off?)

<Brian> (Ftisk is the devil on the shoulder. Always.)

<parrotTisk> (right Brian!)

<human-Kite> (Once we leave. Sort of a walking-away-from-a-bomb scene....but in a car.....driving swiftly.)

<Theresa> (I prefer to be like Columbo, in my cop/detective work.)

<Carrie> "Yes, of course."

<Random_Nerd> (So, as you leave. Will you be going through the checkpoint again and so on, or just Aspect-driving in a frantic car chase all the way to Kabul?)

<Brian> (The latter sounds more fun :D)

<human-Kite> (We can checkpoint first.)

<Carrie> (If I'm driving, the checkpoint route.)

<parrotTisk> (aspect drive let the car surpass her speed limits?)

<Random_Nerd> (Okay. Then getting back is another forty minutes or so, if you don't do anything fancy to get there sooner.)

  • Carrie uses the drive to discuss strategy.

<Random_Nerd> Boom!

<Random_Nerd> What do you talk about, specifically, as you drive?

<parrotTisk> "My plan is ... wow! Nice explosion!"

  • human-Kite pretends to be shocked.

<Carrie> "I'm thinking there should be a way to defuse the Flower Rite on courage. Manipulate things so that it's no longer a threat to the Estate."

  • Brian ignores the explosion

<Random_Nerd> Also audible to people with Aspect 2 or higher: people rushing around, providing medical attention, searching the camp... and no panic.

<parrotTisk> "wow, His way is effective... no panic in the explosion place!"

  • Theresa _is_ shocked. "What in the...I didn't mean that we _should_ bomb them!"

<human-Kite> "Maybe they're calmness was just too much for them."

<Random_Nerd> About five minutes later, as you're driving to the checkpoint, a car breaks out of the line and heads straight for you.

<parrotTisk> "Who did the bomb? Damn was a cool idea! I wish I had it!"

<human-Kite> "We've got someone on our tail!"

<Carrie> Lesser Div of Hope. What's the driver's goal?

  • Theresa LC plant matter filling the gas tank and engine compartment to stop the car.

<Random_Nerd> To kill the six of you.

<parrotTisk> oh! Finally something straight!

<Random_Nerd> The car doesn't accelerate any more, but it's still heading towards you.

<Theresa> "Kite, could you please disassemble that car?"

<Random_Nerd> If you're going to do anything to stop it, it's going to have to be now.

<Brian> (Arg, I want to do something fun like change the combustion temperature of gasoline fumes in the car's engine, but I can't remember mechanics right now! Arg!)

<Random_Nerd> The car impacts.

<Brian> "Brace for ow!"

  • parrotTisk fly out

<Random_Nerd> Which of you don't have Durant or a stronger equivalent?

<Carrie> "Aah!"

<Carrie> (I do not.)

<parrotTisk> (Durant)

<Random_Nerd> Those who do not, take a Normal wound.

<human-Kite> (I have Durant)

<Brian> (I do not, I believe. And I don't remember my wound tracks - would anything have healed recently enough?)

<Random_Nerd> Ftisk, as you fly out, you see that a large bird is flying towards you.

=-= YOU are now known as squidDragonTisk

<Random_Nerd> A raven, perhaps, or a big crow.

<Random_Nerd> Looks very out of place here.

<Random_Nerd> (The only wound you currently have is the Divine one you're missing, from the thing with your bones for JbJ.)

  • squidDragonTisk shoot myThought as molten silver (a gift I'm trying to learn)

<Theresa> *Yells* "Ftisk! There are civilians around!"

<Random_Nerd> Ftisk, it splutters, and a few streams of silver splatter out a few inches, and then fall.

<Random_Nerd> (Minor failure.)

  • squidDragonTisk ignore Theresa and roar angrily

<Random_Nerd> The bird is flying pretty quickly towards the stopped car.

<Random_Nerd> (Oh, and if not for what Theresa did to the engine and gas tank, the car would have also exploded.)

<Theresa> (Only _we_ get to cause the cool explosions here!)

  • squidDragonTisk fly to intercept the bird

  • human-Kite throws a feather at the driver

<Random_Nerd> The guy who was behind the wheel of the car is pretty beat up, but he starts to crawl out the windshield, and clutches a large shard of glass.

<Theresa> (Hmm. I wonder if the pain of losing some of his protected buddies could have amped Jeremy's abilities...)

<Random_Nerd> Ftisk, you feel a miracle starting to take hold on your mind, something that would alter your motivations. What do you do?

<Theresa> (Is anyone paying attention to us?)

<squidDragonTisk> I'll try to resist the miracle

<Random_Nerd> (You're some distance from the checkpoint, but it's a flat road, and people can see you from about half a mile in either direction.)

<Random_Nerd> How do you try to resist?

<Random_Nerd> Do you take a wound, or use a miracle?

  • Theresa LC vines at the glass-dude's feet, to trip and hold him down.

<squidDragonTisk> take a wound

<Random_Nerd> They spring up, and he starts cutting his way through them. He seems to be doing so surprisingly quickly, especially given that he looks like he should be dead.

<human-Kite> (Did the feather not hit him?)

<Random_Nerd> Ftisk, if you were not a noble, you would be affected by a miracle that would make you try to resolve this situation in a calm and reasonable manner.

<Random_Nerd> What affliction do you take to resist this?

<Random_Nerd> (Normal wound level.)

<squidDragonTisk> reckless sound right as affliction

<Random_Nerd> The feather hit him, and hurt him, but he seems to be running on crazy amounts of adrenaline right now, so it's not slowing him down.

<Random_Nerd> He'll probably be dead within five minutes, though.

<Random_Nerd> Bird, bellowing: "What is the meaning of this? What have you done?"

<Brian> (Can I do a Miracle to change the amount of time he has left? I know that's a bit meta, but hey ^_^)

  • Theresa will vine him again. She can do this all day.

<Random_Nerd> (What type of miracle?)_

<Random_Nerd> (Domain? Persona?)

<Brian> (I'm thinking Persona would be appropriate, with a Motion?)

<Random_Nerd> (...that's not a Persona miracle.)

<Brian> (It isn't? ... Domain, then.)

<Brian> (I'm mixed up -_-)

  • squidDragonTisk project Ftiskness on the raven to make him like me and stop attacking and start partying!

<Random_Nerd> (Domain.)

<Random_Nerd> Have you completed that project yet?

<squidDragonTisk> yes version 1 without penetration is completed, working on step 2: add penetration!

<Brian> (Well, I will try it with no Strike. What's the level of Miracle?)

<Random_Nerd> Doesn't work, with no strike.

<squidDragonTisk> can I add strike on the fly on gift?

<Theresa> (Ftiskness isn't a Domain or really a Persona miracle, is it?)

<squidDragonTisk> (never thinked of the mechanics, that side of the gift is all in RN hands)

<Random_Nerd> One of the soldiers in a jeep about half a mile down suddenly raises his rifle and shoots at Ftisk.

<Random_Nerd> (It didn't, it hit an Auctoritas of at least level 1.)

<Random_Nerd> (But since you just tried for a moment and it didn't work, trivial.)

<Angelo> ok , trivial for spray molten silver and trivial too for the project Ftiskness, right?

<Random_Nerd> You know, I really like the Quest rules better than the Project ones.

<Random_Nerd> Both, yes.
