OOC: Kaizer is the DM as much as me dude. As a general note, just to clarify for future reference. You want to keep Ethan's identity to be secret until the big reveal. Right? Okay, that'll keep problems from arriving in the future.

Thelia: So I have to pretend I don't know him?

Actually, you won't know him.

Thelia: What?

*flashes MIB neurolyzer at her*

Thelia:

She'll be fine.

Don't worry friend, I'll RPG the LoB for you and your plight will be the focus of adventure 2# for anyone who wants to involve themselves, though certainly we'll need to get back to the fortress sometime.

OOC: New characters to introduce:

E-93O: Prissy warforged who spent the end of the Last War serving a psion with a brilliant energy blade.

Twister: Foul-mouthed warforged thief who hates humans more than even the Lord of Blades and is obsessed with emulating every breather vice known.

Re: [FF spin-off] The Shadow over Cyre

Hall of Truth

Cassius: We've successfully managed to pass through most of the Trials. We should wait for the....Thing....though.

Melissa D'Deneith: You killed your own daughter?

Cassius: She was already dead.

Melissa D'Deneith: Yeah, but how could.....

Cassius: I remind you I struck down her mother too. With equal remorse and self-recrimination. I may be yet compelled to strike down my father as well, if he has been consumed by the Dread Disease.

Nathan: I thought we didn't have a problem with Vampirism?

Cassius: Your grandfather, Nathan, would be too young to remember a time when Karrnath was not a state ruled by the undead. Indeed, we considered necromancy solely the province of evil magicians and deranged cultists.

Nathan: What happened?

Cassius: We liked winning more. I would pay possibly any price imaginable to bring the woman I loved and my daughter back. The only thing I love as much as they is Karrnath and I sacrificed my honor and goddess to serve the state.

Nathan: Colonel?

Cassius: Yes, child?

Nathan: That is really is really :censored: up.

Cassius: I get, Nathaniel.

Nathan: No, seriously, that's the product of a really :censored: up situation. Anyone in your immediate family that you're NOT going to kill?

Cassius: My mother and Aunt are a Lich and a vampiress.

Nathan: I take it you're not success at dating.

Cassius: Melissa said it. I struck down my own daughter. The most precious thing in my life. That sort of person doesn't deserve happiness. I will walk alone, childless and forsworn, until the day that Khyber swallows my body.

Orkus: That may be sooner than you think, Fallen Paladin.

Cassius: Eh, :censored:

[Slightly before the appearance of Orkus the Balor]

Koram: Quiet lass, respect the fact that the man has been through ordeals you canna even consider.

Melissa: No, seriously, Earthshaper, I'm a Dragonmarked House member. There's NOTHING more important than family.

Koram: I'm a Dwarf, girlie. D'nya think that ah don't know anything about clan and country? I had a family too befer the Last War.

Melissa: You don't speak much about your family.

Koram: Thars yer have nots and yer haves amongst Dwarves, same as amongst humans. Me mudder tried to keep us all fed but me fadder died in one of the damned airship raids on me homeland.

Melissa: I'm sorry.

Koram: I had a few liddle ones myself. Pretty little things that took after her mother who took a chance on a man with fingers too stubby to be a watch maker yet knew somethin' about chemicals.

Melissa: What happened?

Koram: Couldn' a tell ya. I lived in Karrnath before the place entirely went to pott. The famine broke out, the one that the derned elf over there refers to that turned the place into crazytown. I sent me daughters and wife on the road with every copper to me name.

Melissa: And you never saw them again?

Koram: Onatar and Kol Korran willing, even the Traveller if his fickle blessings stick, they joined up with the rest of the clan. Me wife remarried and girls found husbands of their own. I ended up toilin' as an Aundair artificer's slave for the next sixty years until the foul cretin keeled over of old age.

Melissa: I can't imagine that. My family means everything to me.

Koram: If one ever became an undead and you saw them. Well.....you'd know that the man before you did the most noble thing imaginable for it. He'll bear the scars of it forever....but he acted as a father should.

Melissa: You've suffered a lot.

Koram: Oh, I learned enough during my time with Rudolfus Bourbon. For one, the cheese eating surrender monkeys can all taste my nitro potions. The next, I really like blowing up the wine swilling :censored:

Melissa: That's what you learned?

Koram: Canya think a better lesson?

Melissa: Errr....

Koram: Tis a true tragedy the Mourning, it should have hit Aundair....

Kaizer, just think of it as a Macguffin that turns the wearer into an average looking member of his or her race and nationality by use of an always active Alter Self spell. I have a few more ideas for it in an upcoming plotline I want to do (and no it will not be a LotR parody).

Charles, the revealation has already happened, Ethan has taken off the Ryan mask and is not going to put on another, everyone else is just going through a transitory period where they figure out what to call him. I do have plans for repercussions related to his decision. Oh, and I will update the Ryan/Ethan part of the wiki later today.

Re: [FF spin-off] The Shadow over Cyre

As the Thing enters the Hall of Truth, an image appears of a bunch of cultists in a lab standing around a large see-through cylinder.

Cultist 1: How's the progress going?

Cultist 2: Well, the formation of the body is going smoothly but I think we’ll have to wait until he is fully grown to bring the flesh to life.

Cultist 1: Explain.

Cultist 2: Should we try and fail at this stage we risk damaging the experiment beyond repair, destroying years of work overnight.

Cultist 1: I see, and how will we make sure that this…Thing…doesn't go insane and try to kill us?

As he says this, a tall albino man with jet black hair, and red eyes interjects.

Kain: There is little risk of a puppet attacking its master.

The conversation continues but the Thing just walks right past it.

The next image shows the Thing strapped to a table, clearly dead, but the cultists near him are preparing change that. Kain stands next to the table as they begin infusing the spark of life into it, and a thin strip of blue energy arcs out from his fingertips, connecting just as they finish. There is a moment’s pause before its now blood-red eyes open and it swiftly and brutally ends the lives of the cultists who had given him his.

Kain: Yes, this experiment was a major success...

Up until now, the Thing had had no real reaction to these images, but at the sight of these men dying by his hands snapped him out of his shocked state.

Thing: *shaking* No… No, I didn't do that!

Voice: Yes you did. It is what you are made for. It is your purpose!

Thing: NO!

He falls to his knees as the image in front of him starts flashing scenes of him killing large groups of unarmed people. Men, women, and children were being ripped in two with looks of sheer terror spread across their faces.

Thing: Stop. No more.:weep:

Kain: What? Afraid of what you are? What you were made to be?

This image had appeared from somewhere behind the Thing.

Thing: You’re dead! YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER ME!

He then takes a swing at Kain who easily dodges it.

Kain: You really think that I am that easy to kill? You never thought that I was just giving you the chance to see what would happen to you had you not listened to us?

A seen of the Thing being tortured appears.

Thing: *stands up to his full height* You can't hurt me anymore!

Kain: Oh really? I know you liked the thrill of battle, the smell of fresh blood, the screams of those that fell before you. I know you want to experience that again...

As he says this he starts to release the same blue ray from before. But before the ray reaches the Thing, Kain stumbles as he realizes that he has a claw through his chest.

Kain: *gurk*

Thing: *his eyes blood red* You wanted a killing machine, you got one!

He then proceeds to rip out his claw and Kain falls back into the mirror he came from. The Thing's eyes turn back to the hollow green eyes from before as he then slowly walks out.

----

*Before Orkus appears*

The Thing stumbles out of the Trail.

Cassius: Soooooooo, do you have a name?

The sound of a non-violent voice causes the Things eyes to regain their light...but then they are filled with fear as he sees the group around him carring a assortment of deadly weapons.

Thing: *cringes* Don't hurt me!

He then backs into a corner and assumes the fetal postion.

Cassius: *walking over to him* We're not here to harm you, um...

Nathan: Man, this guys more useless than I am!

Cassius: Well, I'm not going to leave him here! Now do you have a name?

The Thing slowly looks up and sees no malice in Cassius's eyes.

Thing: ...Dimithkarjic.

Cassius: Dimit- what?

D: Call me D for short.

Cassius: Ok, D I can handle.

Dimithkarjic

Race: Mutant?

Alignment: unknown

Class/level: unknown

D was created by the cult in a attempt to create the ultimate warrior. Kain was killed while controlling D by an adventuring party that the cult was testing D out on.

Deathly afraid of fighting and violence for reasons unknown. He doesn't seem to be a threat to those around him.

OOC: Go ahead with the Orkus thing now. Also D won't be fighting until a certain point, for the most part he will be dodgeing.

Re: [FF spin-off] The Shadow over Cyre

Fracture, the twins, and their new allies are jogging down the corridors they came from, back down the passage Cassius took. They stop at the edge of the Hall of Kings next to the members of Thelia's group who haven't passed through the hall yet.

Ben: Hey Frac, bout time you showed up. (glances at the new recruits) Looks like you've been making some new friends.

Fracture: Spare me the pleasantries. Where is the Colonel?

Ben: Uh, he went down the hall. But Fracture, there's something you need to-

Fracture however has already taken off down the hallway with his men at a run. As Fracture passes the first set of mirrors however he slows and then stops, he glances backwards but he already knows what he will find. They are gone, the twins, the new recruits, even the others back at the entrace to the chamber. He is completely alone.

Fracture: Interesting. Perhaps I was slightly hasty. (shrug) Just as well.

Voice: Do you not fear for your fate at all? Do you put such little value on your own life?

Fracture: (not turning around) Perhaps I do. I would rather perish myself than to see another of my kind suffer the same fate. I would gladly sacrifice all that I am to help our kind rise to greatness. But then that was never a subject we saw eye to eye on was it "old friend"? (finally turns around)

Lord of Blades: Indeed. "Old friend" is it now? That's an interesting choice of words "old friend" considering I believe you informed me when you left that if I ever tried to follow you you would have me melted down and turned into, (pause) what was it, a cooking pot?

Fracture: A chamber pot actually. That way **** would finally be going into you rather than coming out.

LoB: Ah yes, very witty. You always had a bit too much brains for your own good.

The two warforged are now circling each other. The eyes of each fixed on the other. The LoB chuckling and bristling his blades menacingly from time to time. Fracture on the other hand simply paces, his cold, blue eyes boring into his adversary as if trying to see into his very soul.

LoB: You know we really are quite alike. Not in form perhaps (rustling his blades) but certainly in mindset "old friend."

Fracture: You believe so perhaps but I spelled out quite clearly the difference between us before I left.

LoB: (sounding amused) Oh yes, you made your thoughts clear to me, I simply think that the truth is that you were deluding yourself. Perhaps there are some small differences between us but we have more in common that you like to believe. We both seek to see our brethren rise above the weak creatures of flesh as is our destiny.

Fracture: I have never denied that.

LoB: There is also the fact that when this great civilization of our brethren rises we each see ourselves as the one most qualified to lead it.

Fracture: (glancing away) I suppose this is true as well.

LoB: Mwahaha, don't even try to deny it comrade. Perhaps we had planned to rule side by side but in truth each of us though we would do just fine without the other.

Fracture: ...

LoB: What, no snarky comebacks now "old friend"? I'm disapointed. Just as well, now we come to the heart of the matter, don't we? The argument you used to explain to yourself why you really left. You claimed that my way, the way of the god-king was doomed to failure. It was an unstable society that I wished to propegate for no other reason than because I wanted the power, the imortatity that comes from being worshiped in that way.

Fracture: (snort) Do you deny it?

LoB: Of course not! Your evaluation is completely correct. However if there is any real difference between us it is that I am at least honest about my motives. The truth is that you seek the same thing I seek, you simply go about it another way. You would lead our brethren to freedom, creating a free society where they would choose their leaders. But then you already know that you, their great savior, would be the one they chose anyway. You want to be remembered forever as their savior, their liberator. Immortal, even if your body should fail and your soul torn asunder, immortal still.

At this pronouncement Fracture stops and hangs his head. The Lord of Blades continues to circle him, not stopping his speach.

LoB: That is your fear isn't it? You do not fear death, you know our kind are like the mountains, compared to fleshies we last for all of eternity but as the eons pass even the mountain is worn to nothing. What you fear is annonymity, to never be remembered by the annals of history. Unimportant, unremembered.

A hush falls over the two warforged as the Lord of Blades stops pacing in front of Fracture.

LoB: That is not the only thing you know as well, you know that while both our chances of achiving our goals are low, together they are far, far greater. What is your answer then? You were once my comrade, my brother in arms, together no force in this world could stop the rise of our glorious civiliation!

Fracture remains as he is for a long time before he finally raises his head to stare directly into the eyes of the LoB. They stand, gazing at each other for a long time. When the words finally spill forth from Fracture.

Fracture: No.

LoB: No, brother?! Do you still deny my words, deny yourself?

Fracture: No, I accept what you have said, all of it. I know it is truth. We are twins in spirit, opposite sides of the same coin. But like said coin we are both inexerably linked and completely opposed to each other. I cannot abide by your plans to eradicate the fleshies. I care nothing for the breather skum but your plans would bring about the deaths of too many of our kin. A sacrafice I am not willing to make. I wish to rule, yes, but I will not use my brethren as tools.

Fracture's fist strikes out at these words, striking the LoB. He shatters like glass and crumples to the floor in shards. Only a single pane of glass remains showing the LoB's face as if in a mirror.

Fracture: And let me be honest to myself if to no one else. I will not join you because I am too proud, too arrogant. I am too selfish to share the immortality I hope to gain with annother. I wish to stand above all others in memory.

LoB: (speaking out of the pane of glass) Oh, very good brother, but this is but the first of the tests and you have yet to face your greatest fears.

The LoB lets out a manaicle laugh as the final pane of glass shatters. Fracture surveys his surroundings once more. He is still alone, and the chamber still streaches on.

Re: [FF spin-off] The Shadow over Cyre

OOC: I was really only expecting it to be Thelia, Melissa, and Gerald, but, hey? Can't very well say no when the whole group's apparently popular. ;)

But, um...they won't have as detailed trials, since I haven't fleshed out their personalities as much.

IC:

*previously on The Shadow over Cyre*

Melissa's Trial

Melissa: Uncle?

Breven D'Deneith: Surprised to see me here?

Melissa: I figured it'd be something taking the form of guilting me for going beyond the contract and losing my arm in the process.

Breven: Though you did act...foolishly, there is a much greater sin you bear.

Melissa: Sleeping with the Colonel is part of the contract.

Breven: Yet you have many contracts. Four, exactly, and only one official. Only one contract at a time, you know this. Conflicts of interest are not well received in a mercenary, and will reflect badly on the house.

Melissa: The other three are well aware of my priorities.

Breven: Are they? Thelia knows your loyalty is not with her, but not why. Gihren thinks he can buy favors. These two you would betray under the right circumstances. But crossing Kazandra? No one would dare incite her wrath.

Melissa: Her terms are in line with the original.

Breven: You are truly an idiot if you think you can handle this. The House will have to disown you, and you will be left to the designs of someone cruel beyond your imagination.

Melissa: She needs me enough to give me some leeway.

At this, her uncle burst out laughing.

Breven:  You?! Can you be that blind to the world and it's workings?! She needs you about as much as you need a toothpick. When it's no longer of use, it is thrown away. She gave you an EXORBERANT amount of money. She expects results, and the consequences for failure are grim. Cassius has no ties to you outside his passing interest in your body. She will drop you faster than he would.

Melissa: ...

Breven: You are caught working for two forces that will come into conflict sooner of later. They care little for you, and the House cannot protect you, either. You will be nothing more than another statistic, and none will mourn your passing or come to your aid, mercenary.

Melissa: Such is the life of one without ties. But there is little I can do but weather the storm.

Breven: :smirk: Weather it, if you can. You and Thelia are more alike than you admit. Neither of you will have anyone to bring flowers to your grave.

With this, the illusion passed and Melissa made her way onwards.

OOC: More later.

Captain Lance: (He's the leader of the Orien guys) Sir I've had my men look at the plans for Metrol and right under the point at which we are hovering is the hall of kings. If we where to blow our way through we could have access to a likely place of the cultists head quarters.

Drake: Do it

Cassius: *coughing* I know longer trust in the Host so who asked for the Miracle?

Ethan (dusting himself off): That was definently a Dues ex Machina.

I dunno, he's a House Cannith and those things have to be murder to recharge. We're facing Orcus for crying out loud. I think in this case that we can let it slide.

Provided it doesn't ruin anyone else's fun or plots. I think most of here appreciate the leeway to just be cool.

Orkus - What are you doing?

Brella - The electric slide

Orkus - You're doing it on a rock that is pinning my ear down. It really hurts:weep: .

Brella - Yeah I exist to cause suffering.

Orkus - What about Cassius?

Brella - Oh You see I've pretty much danced on your grave pre-emptively. So I've stolen the fun of killing you and left him with the grunt work. That and I rigged his armor to explode with itch powder whenever he gets really angsty. So figure about the point where everyone else is down for the count and you're taunting him with his failure he'll do one of his flashback/monolouges and set it off in both your faces.

*BAMF*

Cassius - (from a distance) it itches!

Brella - Assuming Angsty McEmopants doesn't blow them all brooding over the trials.

OOC: Well those things are really expensive. Plus they only a few are eternal and so they go pretty fast. The idea was to get him into the action on time and so for the sake of not having rubble falling, yet :schemes:, I've retconned most of them to them to disintegrate.

OOC: While used before, you can't get enough Twister.

IC:

Boar's Head

Twister woke up from his Alchem hangover as he then puked up on the ground by the bar. The vomit looking like it contained a mixture of oil and motor oil.

Twister: Onatar dammit, I need that oil!

The Warforged shook his head a bit.

Ari: What's wrong Twister?

Twister: I had the most horrible dream that I was carried out by a freed Rajah towards the Keeper's domain in Khyber!

Reade: Really, what was it like?

Twister: It was awful! There was singing!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUEIRVHlFp0

Reade: Damn. Do you think this is a premonition of the iminent destruction of the world due to the rise of Orkus?

Twister: Probably.

Ari: Crap! Do you think we should go help?

Twister: In the words of my ancestor, Aaren D'Cannith, Father of all Warforged.....:censored: no! If the world's going to end we need to get rip roaring drunk, find a wizard, get rip roaring drunk again, then have him take us to the Plane of Attractive Women Warforged.

Reade: Not really our thing....

Twister: Well, you can find your own god damned Manifest Zone gateway then!

Ari: He's got a point.

Bardic: Oh, the Alchemist guy was kidnapped by the Lord of Blades.

Twister: :censored: I mean, really! :censored: !

Ari: What's wrong?

Twister: Listen, we gotta go rescue him.

Reade: What? Why?

Twister: He's the only guy who can make construct booze! We need him before we flee the dimension!

Ari: Again, we're not seeing a reason to help you.

Twister: Listen you two bogus priests, do you want me to tell your congregation about....

*holds up a set of illusionary enhanced photos*

Ari: Where the :censored: did you get those?

Reade: I'd rather not know.

Ari: Brother, you did not do that with a ursine lycanthrope....is that legal?

Reade: Bearly.

The Lord of Blades: This is wrong. I'm an enlightened visionary. The chief causes of all problems in the world are meat beings. With my election as Dictator, I shall remove the issues of crime/starvation/poverty/sleep deprivation/obesity/child abuse/sexual assault. War will certainly exist as I have other dimensions to conquer. This means jobs for everyone.

Artifice was dumped out of a burlap bag in the middle of the throne room of the vast rebuilt city of the Cannith that was the heart of the construction effort of the Lord of Blades. Already, most of the foundaries were already working again. There was the sight of many meat individuals working away tirelessly as well.

The Lord of Blades didn't approve of meat as a rule but they did have their purpose to save the warforged from the problem of unnecessary labor until they ruled the world. The Throne room was a spartan and stone affair that nevertheless had many beautiful works of art created by his fellow warforged.

The Lord of Blades: I see you have arrived. Artifice, as you call yourself, are a person that has a great potential to be of use to me.

Artifice: Y....you.

The Lord of Blades: Yes, we've established that. I am the Lord of Blades, you may bow if you wish.

Artifice: What do you want from me?

The Lord of Blades: I wish you to help foster my plans to continue the creation of new warforged. My own efforts have been stymied by the fact that many of my companions are insufficently experienced with Cannith machinery. You are proof that some meat have the potential to surpass their plebian existence as inferior mortal beings and become.....like us.

Artifice: I...I...

The Lord of Blades: You'll be able to continue this research with my help. I can assure you that you'll be amply compensated. Specifically, you get to keep your continued existence on this physical dimension.

Artifice: That's fair.

The Lord of Blades: I thought you'd agree.

Gerald's Trial

An Elven woman, hauntingly beautiful with braided golden hair, steps from a mirror.

Leila: Hello, son.

Gerald: You've no right to call me that, phantom.

Leila: *giggles* Yet you cannot be certain I'm not her.

Gerald: This is a place of trials. Tricks, illusions, compulsion spells, anything goes in order to test those who pass through.

Leila: And it could very well be easier to summon me here than create a phony.

Gerald: True. ...you're looking well, mother.

Leila: As well as a ghost can be. It's nice to see you've grown up so well. How's Ben?

Gerald: He's changed since you died. Never takes anything seriously. I worry about his chances in this place.

Richard: I'd be more worried about your own, son.

Turning, Gerald saw a human male with a face and build much like his own step from another mirror, his face scarred by years of service on the frontlines during the War.

Gerald: ... *nods* father.

Richard: I still haven't gotten an answer, my boy.

Gerald: To which question? I never seemed quite adequate in your eyes.

Richard: You chose to fight those who I called brothers, who fought with honor by my side, who watched my back as we repelled the hated Karrns. You cut down your own cousin! For what?!

Gerald: The Reaches had been all but independant for a thousand years. We merely had to grab the reigns and defend our own land.

Richard: Such self-justification. You betrayed your countrymen, your own family. Their blood is on your hands.

Gerald: You would have me sit and watch as the raids continued unabated, merely because my "bothers" felt it prudent to not allow an effective fighting force to function with the same independence smaller one's had done for centuries?

Richard: That's bunk and you know it. How would you behave if an army was at your back door while your own was off entrenched against two intractable forces?

Gerald: An army that is supposed to be made of your own countrymen? What kind of loyalty is that? They should have been honored and proud that their brothers in arms would have the strength, and the down-right Aundarian spirit of getting what needs to be done taken care of themselves, to rout those who obeyed the whims of their Karrnathian masters. Yet we were repaid with suspicion and constant undermining.

Richard: *glances at Leila* And you helped bring the war home.

Leila: Now, dear, that's not-

Gerald:  Oh, it's ON now.

Gerald tackled his father, smashing through one of the mirrors as they wrestled. Leila called out to them, begging them to stop, but they continued none the less. Right from the start, it was clear Gerald was outclassed, yet he kept up with his father for some time. Eventually, Richard pinned him, pressing a knife to his throat.

Richard:  You are just as responsible for those Droaamite monsters being there as...as-

Gerald stared defiantly back.

Gerald: As your "honorable" brothers were? I fought with the same honor you taught me, yet you blame me when those you trusted use dirty tactics and strike at family members. I do not deny my actions brought them to our doorstep. I do not deny Ben's pain, nor absolve myself of such responsibility. But I did the best I could, and I do not regret following what I believed to be right.

The image of his father dissolved into mist, his mother smiling at him as he stood up.

Leila: You know...it's high time you made you move. She wouldn't turn you down.

Gerald:  Mom...

Leila: *fades* :D I'm still waiting for grandchildren!

Artifice: And so long as i help you further your goal, i get to further mine?

LoB: So long as that goal is to become more like us.

Artifice: Thats one way of putting it.

AH: What is asked of me, he of the blades?

LoB: Ceate as your destiny commands, but never forget I helped give you life, and this "creator fashioned your limbs. So long as you harm us not, you and your 'children may aid our cause and further your own.

AH: To be blunt, my 'children could rip you all limb from limb if i wished it, we are larger in number and can freely repoduce something you are no-

LoB: not yet capable of? Artifice, do be a good fleshie, and hit that pilar over there with your dragon mark please?

Artifice: ....

Arturo would do as instructed and head over to a large stone pillar etched with runes he reconized but could not read. resting his still living hand to its base his dragon mark would glow on the back of his neck for a split second, and then the pillar would glow.

Artifice: Im not sure if i want to know exactly what i just did.

LoB: Nothing spectacular, you just hit the on switch. It will still take some time to get the "firstforge" truly up and running.

AH: I can still outnumber you, and my kind only truly listen to me. If i wish it you will all-

LoB: In my hand i hold a small rod, and in that rod is a dragonshard. Inside that dragon shard is my personal mark, which will ignite inside your ruby any time i so choose. Step one mecanical mandible out of line and your reign will end before it begins.

AH: He of the blades!

Artifice: Didn;t i create you with a back bone?

AH: More of an exostkeleton.

Artifice: Duly noted. Sir... erm.. blade....er... Lord.... erm... Mr blade sir? What ever I should call you.... May i have access to a few of your warforged for study?

LoB: i can only spare one now, BLUR!

In a flash of metal blur apears in the center of the room.

Blur: yessirwhatdoyouneedsir?

LoB: just do as Artifice directs.

Blur: yessirasyousaysir.

LoB good, little one follow me, we have much to discuss.

the Ah hesitates slightly, but the LoB simply waves the rod in the air and it scuries up to his shoulder perching among the blades. At that he turned and marche doff leaving Artifice in the room with Blur.

Artifice: well then lets get started.

Artifice began tinkering around th ebase of Blurs neck and was immeadiatly assaulted with a question.

Blur; Whatexactlydoyouthinkyoudoing?

Artifice: Finding your mute button.

Re: [FF spin-off] The Shadow over Cyre

Fracture stumps along deeper into the hall making no attempt to quiet his footfalls. Why should he, after all there was no one else to hear him and he doubted he would be able to avoid the trials through stealth. As he approached a new set of mirrors a figure becane to coalesce ahead of him. Unlike the previous phantasm which had seemed solid this one seems no more present than smoke maintaining translucent and not quite touching the ground. As the edges of the figure finally began to come into focus a chill sweapt through Fracture's insideds, he knew who stood before him. Fracture stared into the face of the ghost and the face of a grissled, weather-beaten warforged stared back.

Granite: Hello Fracture.

Fracture: As soon as I recignized the nature of this place I knew you would be coming.

Granite: You always were a smart boy, yes, why shouldn't I come? Come and face the one who killed me.

Fracture: (a note of panic in his voice) Y- you were killed by falling stonework and shoddy engineering by the meatsacks. I had nothing to do with your death.

Granite: (a malevolent look in his eyes) You may be able to tell such lies to me but you know inside that they ring hollow. It was supposed to be you in that church that day, not me. The only reason I was there was because you were too BUSY with your rabblerousing against the "meatsacks" you so dispised! Not only that you KNEW the church was unstable! You recognized the shody engineering but rather than warn anyone of the danger you laughed and used it as an example of human inferiority!

Fracture has sunk to his knees by this point, his head hung low.

Granite: Speaking of your obcession with mortal inferiority, that is not something that you learned from ME! I taught you that we warforged may have been stronged in some ways than the mortals who surrounded us but that did not make us superior to them! It did not make us fit to rule them! I taught you non-violent resistance to oppression, I did't teach you to kill! Have you forgot, have you perverted everything I taught you?!

Fracture: (his voice shaking slightly) I- I never forgot.

Granite: (now towering over Fracture) OH, DID YOU?!

Fracture: No, I remembered what you taught me. I tried to follow what you said but in the end I was to weak. To weak to use peace to resist the violence and oppression. I never forgave myself for what happened to you that day, what happened to you because of my actions. You were a martyr for our cause who I could never emulate. I decided I would see your dream of freedom for all warforged by traveling the darker path, sacrificing my own soul to see your vision fulfilled.

There is a long silence following this before Granite finally responds.

Granite: Rise boy.

Fracture looks to see Granite's features have softened and he is extending a ghostly hand. Fracture takes and is pulled back to his feet.

Granite: I have never blamed you for my fate. I knew full-well the dangers of going into that church. "I" triggered the collapse.

Fracture:  WHAT?!

Granite: I knew that my methods, while good intentioned, would never be enough to achive my dream. By the same token, I did have it in me to do what was truely neccissary. (looking fondly on Fracture) You did though. I knew however that you would never leave my side, you needed the spark that would set you on your path. I am proud of what you have become, placing health of you kin above even your own life. I imagine this must be something akin to what a human father feels.

Fracture has been shocked speachless by this revelation and can only stare, open mouthed at Granite.

Granite: I must go now, this is not my place and you have a final trial ahead of you. The trial in which you must face your greatest fear. Perhaps someday, in some other world we shall meet again. Goodbye, son. (he begins to fade away, only the barest hint of his outline remains)

Fracture: Goodbye... (with that the ghost is completely gone)

...father
