Background[edit]

Icarius began his service to the Holy Ordos and Inquisitor Mahias Kruta in particular at a quite young age, being little more than a novice in the Priesthood of Mars when he stumbled upon a heretek cult, a plot to twist an entire forge (perhaps the entire forge world) to the service of Chaos and (fortunately or unfortunately), a dedicated Inquisitor and his most trusted throne agents on a mission to find and destroy the aforementioned cult and stop the aforementioned armaggeddon. While many of the details are (as much of what goes on in the Ordos' business) 'need to know' (and nobody needs to know), the entire episode ended with a thoroughly purged and cleansed forge, a singular lack of cult members among the living (or much of anyone else in the vicinity), and a new recruit to the Inquisitor's network.

Perhaps as a consequence of so many years in the Inquisition and so few in the Priesthood proper, Icarius is hardly the most dutiful of techpriests. While he finds a fascination with the Search for Knowledge within himself, he has no loyalty to the hierarchy or the principles of the Mechanicum. This could potentially be a very dangerous flaw (resulting in very heretical research, silica anima, and other abominations)... if he wasn't polished to maturity in an equally forbidding (of things dangerous to Mankind) environment.

The particular focus of Icarius' interests lie in the Holy Forces of Electricity (thus his moniker) and Magnetism (mostly as an effect of the former). He has grown to a singular mastery of electrical systems, which has allowed him to disadvantage many a cult in a 'civilized' environment as lights go out or explode in incandescent fury, cogitator systems and data slates betray their masters' secrets, and even weapons themselves can fly from enemies' hands at Icarius' coaxing (ie, Ferric Lure used as a stunty disarm). In combat he uses a whip of lightning-clad alloy to significant effect, often taking as many prisoners as corpses. Afterwards he is adept at scavenging cults' resources to further the team's investigations and assists with both medical skill and electrical shocks interrogations of prisoners.

When not on an investigation, the Galvanist is quite friendly and human to his team-mates or to others he interacts with. His (mostly) subtle implants are often either hidden under flesh or fit the lines of his body under his clothes well enough that he is difficult to identy as a techpriest - something which he cultivates, as he secretly cherishes his connections to the rest of humanity as he feels alienated from his cybernetic fellows. He wears a cloth half-mask that hides the smooth surface of his vox and respiratory filters, and often accompanies it with a nondescript brown hood and cloak. If he were to strip off his armour and clothes, his torso would be covered in flexible metal alloy bands that trace his ribs (part of his new mantle, after his previous one was severely damaged in an investigation a year back). Through the skin a faint amethyst glow can sometimes be seen when his potentia coil stores or discharges a significant amount of power, and his palms contain conductive cog-wheels made of warm copper that allow him to draw or discharge sacred electrical power through contact. His completely (including eyebrows) hairless head has no particularly startling features (aside from the concealed metal jaw), and emotions are often eloquently expressed with tilts of his head or the movement of his eyes. With his dark skin and brown cloak, he often fades into darkness - however, stealth is somewhat ruined by the luminosity of his electoos and potentia coil.
