Up in his beloved redwoods, Agent CUVIER came across something very strange growing up inside the heartwood of some of the great conifers. It was white, and it moved. Now, he remembered the old tales of the Portolá expedition of 1769, and their supposed miraculous recovery from scurvy by eating berries in the Park's Canyon of Health. He started to wonder about the New Age types who had been camping out regularly in the Canyon, extolling its healing properties, and he thought he'd take a closer look...
 
 
 
He doesn't like to talk about - or remember - what happened next. Suffice it to say that the CZU Lightning Complex fires of August 2020 weren't entirely caused by lightning strikes. Four unidentified victims died in those fires, along with one Park Service Ranger. If any forensics analyst had examined those charred corpses, they would have found bullet holes in them - two from CUVIER's service weapon.
 
 
 
The white gunk was sent off to some EPA lab for analysis. CUVIER never got the results back - but he did get a visit from a very tight-lipped man who made him sign a document and informed him that he might be contacted again - if he wanted to stop recurrences of this incident, that is...
