Code name "Samson" was recruited into Mossad straight out of the IDF. He was an intrusion specialist, responsible for getting his team into a building via any means necessary -- picking locks, blowing off hinges, or blasting a hole in the wall. His team was observing what they thought was a terrorist cell; they were operating out of one specific house and after a diversionary tactic to draw off the cell his team entered the building to investigate.

They weren't terrorists, or at least not Palestinian or anything Samson had seen before. The basement had a bat-winged creature that literally tore the teammembers apart. Samson set the last of his explosives on a short timer and ran for it, barely getting outside before the entire building blew up.

As it turns out, reporting that a man-bat monster destroyed your entire team but there's no proof because you blew everything up is not a method for career advancement in Israeli intelligence. Samson went on an extended vacation to [location] where [some inciting incident that leads him to the rest of the team].
