The cannier denizens of Creation know that the Prosaic World doesn't stay prosaic all on its own.  The thankless work of keeping it that way falls to the Apologists of Za'afiel, an Order of Nobles comprising misfits, penitents, true believers and social climbers.  These are their stories.

*Maxwell Murdoch, Dominus of Difficulty.  A Noble of the Serpent of Radar, Maxwell has a voice that can travel across the entire breadth of Creation.  He is known to all within the Apologists, by reputation if not personally, and is responsible for personally recruiting several members of the Order.  He often coordinates responses to threats to the Prosaic.

*The Order of the Thistle: the mortal counterpart to the Apologists of Za'afiel, their members are knights who monitor the Prosaic Earth using means both technological and occult.
*The Auditors: The listen for the noises that periodically emanate from the Vacant Shell.  Their heads are covered with thousands of tiny ears; the only other orifice is a small, toothless mouth.  They dwell in the Auditor's Tower, which stands just outside the Shell; no Auditor has been seen outside of the Tower, and none can remember who brought them there.
