Venomous Cricket was always going to be a soldier. He's been training every moment he gets between his work on the farm, so that when the recruiters come through town again and take their levies, he'll stand out. Sure, being a peasant is an awkward start to his career, but there's no way that a soldier as talented as him will be passed up by the Legions, especially if those stories about how half of them just got wiped out are true.

But what of the other half of those stories? The stories about the Anathema that wiped out those Legions?
