The peoples of Ubantu have a wide variety of domestic animals. They have many of the animals found on Earth, along with domesticates of species that are found on Earth but wild, and a few species native to Ubantu. There is a common belief that the meat and other products from animals has a strong effect on those who consume them, culminating in a nutrition science known as Uziza. Various tribes often have pets from species that are believed to allied to their tribe, and there is also a long standing fashion of exotic pets among the upper classes of Milikyunjovu, similar to the fashions of the Greeks and Egyptians.

There is a wide variety of agricultural domesticates in Ubantu, much more so than in Earthly agriculture. There are the stock species of cows, pigs, goats and sheep, but also indigenous varieties, such as Quaggas in the Empire; thenge, ngu and ndorome in Ulangwa; and Oryx in the Khoinama Steppes. Among the domestic birds, guineafowl are ubiquitous, but only the Empire farms ostriches. Rodent control is relegated to owls and mongooses. Wabantu farmers are advanced in the art of Apiculture. Some farmers have turned the ultimate agricultural pest into farmers' best friend: the Njikima monkeys.

Two species are used for hunting, dogs and Cheetahs. In the Empire, wild Cape Hunting Dogs and the domesticated variety are called Wabwa. Companion animals are very common. Each of the clan with animal totems have made attempts to domesticate that totem. Beyond these, there are also rainbowsnakes, commonly used as familiars.
