Religion

Religion is a complicated thing: many different religious groups vie for adherents among the populace, often fiercely. Devotees to various gods are not likely to aid one another unless their faiths have especially strong ties. Even within faiths, factions are all too common. Thus, sometimes even adherents of the same faith cannot always be counted on for assistance such as shelter or medical aid because of differing views. Add to this mix cults to various non-divine beings. The virulent worship of various dragons of the expansive Narmer desert region who claim godhood, and the various ancestor spirit-cults of the more primitive thinkers, it's no wonder such animosity between faiths is so common. Between state-religions and ruthless cults few are untouched by some degree of religious persecution. In many instances kingdoms and other principalities have divine patrons. Such gods, take a keen interest in the welfare of their suplicants. As is the case for most divine and quasi-divine beings, such a god may suffer if enough worshipers fall away from faith in said being. As a result, major upheavals of state can have significant impact in the heavenlies, and vice-versa.

"The good speech of an ass is better than the bad word of a prophet."
