It is a sign of the sort of school Holy Question Mark is that the teachers generally call students by their preferred names, some of them even calling Bernardo Cavagnaro "Bearcat."  He refuses to answer to his given name any more, so those who won't stoop to "Bearcat" call him "BC," an ambiguity he grudgingly accepts. Only Assistant Dean Healey and some of the crueler students call him "Bernardo" these days, and he is well-known to have sucked up a Saturday Morning Work Detail once as penalty for ignoring the Dean of Mean calling him by his "larval-stage name."

Someone as good-looking as BC could easily get a lot of action despite being a colossal stoner and merely average academically. In fact, he's "friends with benefits" with more than one girl at the Institute, but never dates.
