The Adventure

Fiona is waiting in Cyrus’s room when he returns. She thanks him for his help in causing the Baroness’s departure. As a reward, she offers his Americans a place to settle as they’re on the run from the Nazis. It is an underground realm that should be easy to take. It is currently a threat to Amber’s existence, and it would be good for all if his people took it over. The name of the realm is Crimson. Bleys has some experience with it. Cyrus agrees to the plan.

Caine is in Gwenyth’s room in his underwear. He wants her help in taking Kashfa from Julian. She’s not interested. He says that if he’s not involved in Kashfa, he’ll have to spend his time in Gilead. She’s still not interested.

LaRubio is invited to a masquerade party honoring Merlin at the Chaosian embassy.

In Calypso’s new realm, the people are getting sick. They are pining away, as the connection to the sea has been lost. They are the Children of the Queen Under the Sea, and reality is unraveling. She goes to her chambers and calls Llewella to ask for help. Llewella tells her to figure out how to fully become the new Queen Under the Sea. Llewella tells her about an underground land ruled by gnomes who eat babies. The realm is under the Pattern. Calypso uses a trump to get back to Amber. She walks the Pattern and tells it to send her to the realm under the Pattern. The Pattern hesitates and she finds herself back at the beginning. She tries to dig down and is knocked out. She has no luck trying to lift the flagstones. She trumps Llewella who tells her that it is deeper under the earth. Llewella advises Calypso to go to the primal pattern and find her great-grandfather. Calypso should find the others, go to the Primal, and talk with Dworkin while the others fight off the monster that guards him.

Calypso goes to find Evelyn and LaRubio. Cyrus tells them of Fiona’s proposition. He tells Calypso that they are going into a trap and that she’s only a tool.

Calypso, Evelyn and LaRubio decide to go.

Bleys arrives and says he only has the group’s best interest at heart. He tells of a treat to Amber - a realm called Crimson. Calypso asks if he will tell them where Dworkin is if they help him. LaRubio asks if Random is aware of this, but Bleys says he doesn’t have time to explain it to him.

Gwenyth heads home. There is a force invading from beyond the nomads. Gwenyth’s parents say that the god said she should return and fulfill her destiny. Gwenyth decides that green clothing (like what the invaders are wearing) causes severe hives. An arrow hits the temple side with a note attached. It if from Julian. He is leaving this shadow and threatens to kill anyone from here that he finds out in shadow.

Calypso, Cyrus, LaRubio and Evelyn find Random and Vialle at a recital. It is a modified version of Bo Peep. LaRubio tells Random the conquest of the realm Under the Sea and of Bleys’s request. In return, Bleys will help them find Dworkin who can help Calypso solve her personal problem. He asks them to investigate and report. He also advises against talking to Dworkin. He asks Cyrus if Fi put him up to this. Random thinks that the other Elders have something mean and humiliating they want to do, so this is a way to get the group out of the castle. Random says that these stories are just stories, like the mer-people living around Rebma. Random and Vialle leave,

Gwenyth quietly causes disruption in Kashfa.

In the morning, Cyrus, LaRubio, Evelyn and Calypso meet Bleys. They go down to the basement. Bleys presses the wall and they all go down a path. Creatures attack them with boulders. They tell them that the Forbidden One must leave. Bleys turns back and a very tall elven woman appears and offers to guide them to her father’s realm. Cyrus trumps Gwenyth to talk to help negotiate with the natives. She goes through.

Warty, monstery beasts appear and everyone mounts. The ride lasts for hours. There is eventually a palace that is carved of glowing red rock. LaRubio asks why the beings are so deformed and is told it is the Curse of Yellow. The King can only protect a few from the curse. All others suffer. There are thousands of beautiful people but they are outnumbered by the misshapen ones. They have had no contact with Amber except The Seducer. The group is lead in to see the King.

Gwenyth sees an adult leading several small children bound together with a small chain. The children have been taken from other places where they were abused. Here they will go through a change which will shorten their lives.

Cyrus is taken to a bathing room with the beautiful ladies. Evelyn is taken to see sporting events. LaRubio's guide wants to take him to the sports arena, but Rubi insists on a tour through the mushroom fields instead. He is told that to go to the surface means death. LaRubio wants to go there, but the guide will not assist LaRubio in committing suicide. Rubio complains about the lack of fire in this dead realm.

Calypso’s guide comes on to her.

LaRubio sees a large ball of moss and lichen over the palace. Servitors are chipping away at it while others are pulling up grass in the courtyard.

The group goes back to the dining hall. HE arrives with six attractive women.

The King says that the Unicorn was his creation and that Dworkin raped her. Then Dworkin created the Pattern which has caused his own people’s children to be deformed and die quickly. To support their realm, they take children who are in bad situations and train them to be useful and wanted.

Evelyn is staring at the ball of glowing lichen. She takes out a ring and blasts it. She tells the King that she just saved his life as she wasn’t forced to zap him instead. She says that ghost-Grandpa said she could use the ring to kill the child killer, but she chose to zap the sun instead. They discuss talking with Dworkin about putting some kind of shield around this place to protect it from the Pattern.

After a lot of conversation, The King takes them through a cave that ends at a hole in the ground near the Primal Pattern. Once there they see a large lizard-like monster guarding the opening of Dworkin's Cave. The monster is killed, and dragon-LaRubio begins eating it. Dworkin asks for help moving his suitcase before another monster arrives. The group, sans Rubio, goes over to help but as soon as they lift the trunk, they find themselves in another shadow.

Dworkin rants on about the evil of yellow. He wants the group to kill the Yellow King, but he doesn’t say where he is. After ranting on, he says he doesn’t want to sleep here and disappears.

LaRubio changes back to human form and goes into the cave. He sees a stool in front of a wall of breasts. He continues on and sees a bed and a large well. The shaft goes up and light is coming down the shaft. There is a mirrored ladle at the bottom. He continues to explore and finds come cards in a desk. He passes on the can-can dancers and the seductive mythical beasts and takes the one showing family members in the form of Through the Looking Glass chess pieces.

The rest of the group has used a trump to end in in 1850’s Paris. They check into a hotel and try to go to sleep.
