Game Notes

Caine arrives in each character’s home, announces that the war is over and it’s time to come home. He allows no protests, and each character finds him/herself in the courtyard in Amber, complete with a receiving line. There are several dignitaries there. There is a throne set up in the middle, with a blond man sitting on it. Next to him is a woman with slightly greenish hair on a smaller throne. A tall man approaches. Jessica does not show proper respect and finds a dagger stuck into her leg just above the knee. Random and Vialle are announced.

Michael is brought to the throne. He looks like a young version of Leonardo DiCaprio. He introduces himself and swears fealty to the King. Random thanks Michael, son of Bleys. Trent looks around to see what the current fashion is and changes his clothes appropriately. He then presents himself to Random. Random welcomes Trent, son of Julian. Jessica, daughter of Flora, is next (after removing the dagger). She wants to be known as Saiyayd. She is followed by Sarah, who seems a little skeptical. Chorea, Caine’s daughter, is next, wearing a Kabuki mask. The last one presented is Simon, who Random acknowledges as his son.

Chorea deploys her minions. She learns that a tall blonde woman that was sitting on the dais was arguing with the King about which of them gets to claim Simon. A short redheaded woman is talking with a tall redheaded man, and then that line goes dark. There is a knock on her door. It is Caine, who introduces himself as her father. They share an awkward hug. She asks about the Pattern. When he leaves, he has a passenger.

There is a knock at Sarah’s door. It is Bleys. He says he’s sorry for her, as there will doubtless be a line of young men wanting to get on her dance card that evening. He offers to be her date, and invites her to a private party in his rooms afterward.

As Michael is getting dressed, he sees a short, red-haired woman sitting in a chair by his bed. She offers him tea. He refuses but agrees to negotiate with her. She wants to prevent her siblings from using him as a catspaw by hiring him as her own catspaw. She gives him a bracelet with an image of the Pattern which slithers up onto his wrist. He gives her green underwear that he asks her to wear that evening.

Trent wanders the halls trying to find something to drink. He sees Fiona holding a small bag with a teapot and cups floating behind her. She greets him, and a door appears. She invites him to join her for tea. She warns him that he and his cousins will doubtlessly used by her siblings. She asks him to be her agent among his cousins. She offers him a necklace with a unicorn on it. She says that her mother was the last legitimate Queen, and she feels that her children are the legitimate heirs. He says he doesn’t feel that he can accept her gift right now. She says that if he agrees to be her agent, that would mean he wouldn’t have to return to Arden and join his father. He asks for time to think about it. She says she’ll pencil him in for the 6th dance, and he can give her his answer then.

There is a knock at Simon’s door. There are two maids and the blind woman who was sitting beside Random. Vialle dismisses the servants. She asks if he’s familiar with his mother. He says that Flora was a famous movie actress. Vialle knocks over the table standing up. She asks for clarification. He says it may be a different Flora. She asks if he has anything alcoholic to drink. She says they need to have an understanding, and says that his mother will be known as an earthling named Felicity. Vialle will find this woman and make sure she has wonderful memories of Simon’s childhood. He escorts her to the King’s office and she goes in. He hears raised voices behind the door.

Trent sees Jessica all dressed up heading toward the ball room. Julian arrives with his date and asks Trent how long he plans to stay in Amber. He wants to know when Trent will be reporting for his deferred military service. Julian tells Trent that he will now accept his responsibilities as a Prince of Amber. Julian says that Eric was Oberon’s legitimate heir; therefore if Eric has a child, that child should be heir.

Caine and Gerard talk. Caine asks him if he has the device.

Martin arrives at Chorea’s room. He introduces himself and says he is to be her date. She is wearing the dress that has been provided for her. She wears her kabuki mask. He asks her to remove it for just a minute but she refuses.

Trent arrives with a princess of Begma.

Bleys arrives at Sarah’s door with a bottle of champaign. He produces two flutes and pours. He says that he finds it awkward trying to determine when the first kiss occurs. He swoops her off her feet and kisses her.

Everyone arrives at the ballroom. Michael finds the table with ‘tweener girls. He then dances with all of the tall women. Bleys is sticking close to Sarah. Simon tries to find Flora so they can have a private talk in one of the alcoves.

Martin cuts in on Bleys and Sarah, and she gladly accepts. Bleys asks Chorea what’s under her mask, and if he can see. She says no.

Simon and Flora end up in an alcove. She’s sorry Random has so publically acknowledged him. He tells her about his discussion with Vialle, and suggests she talk with Random.

Sarah talks with Martin about Bleys. Chorea and Jessica talk, as do Simon and Trent. Chorea and Jessica go to “fix” Jessica’s dress. They go to a room and Chorea artfully cuts up Jessica’s dress. Jessica then dunks her hair into beet juice. Chorea tells Jessica that she’s from the Courts, and demonstrates her chords. Jessica is impressed.

There is a blare of trumpets, and Random and Vialle enter. Random walks up to a podium and gives a bad speech. Vialle tugs on his sleeve and he finishes. They dance, and then they start walking back to the balcony. Flora goes over to them and herds Vialle into an alcove. Jessica wonders out loud about what her mom is doing. Chorea sends out a minion and eavesdrops on Flora and Vialle. She reports the conversation back to Simon, Trent and Jessica.

Fiona grabs Trent’s hand and tells him it’s time for the 6th dance. Trent says he likes the idea of sticking around the Castle. She says his job would be her lab assistant. Julian is staring at them.

Simon goes to look for Random. He is watching Vialle making her way out of the alcove. Jessica goes to help Vialle find her way back. Simon asks Random if they can talk privately. Random says he doesn’t have time for that until tomorrow. Jessica arrives with Vialle. Random, Simon and Vialle go out onto the balcony and continue on to the Royal Chambers. Vialle dismisses the servants and slaps Random on the back on the head. She tells Random that Simon is beating around the bush about the fact that Flora is his mother. Vialle says that Simon’s “mother” will be introduced tomorrow. Vialle tells Simon to run along and she will explain things to Random. Simon gets a lot of alcohol. He is approached by Chorea, who accompanies him to the bar.

Jessica goes back to her room and changes into the dress she wanted to wear in the first place.

Trent agrees to work with Fiona, but doesn’t take the necklace publically.

A servant approaches Sarah and says that her parent has recommended that she go back to her room to rest for the Pattern-walking tomorrow. The servant says that the “parent” chooses to remain nameless. Jessica offers to accompany her, but Sarah decides to stay for a while.

Martin’s band sets up and he invites Trent up onto the stage to perform. The music changes. Simon asks Sarah to dance, and Chorea runs interference with the servant girls who have stuck to Sarah’s side. Michael and Jessica dance.

Simon and Chorea tango.

The party is eventually over. Sarah returns to her room to find everything done in red and orange, roses, and Bleys in a smoking jacket. She leaves and tries to go into town. The guards insist that they send a dozen guards with her. She returns to the Castle and camps out in Random’s office.

Chorea hears a scratching on the door. It is Bleys, complete with champagne. She puts a chair under her door knob and goes back to bed.

In the morning, Jessica sees Michael’s creature stealing the underwear she wore last night. She packages the things up and sends them to him.

In the morning, Chorea has breakfast in her room. Simon and Michael go to breakfast. Flora is there. She asks Simon to go find his sister Jessica. He goes to her room and a servant lets him in. He tells Jessica that Flora want her to come to breakfast. She gets dressed and goes with him. They talk, and she asks who his parents are. He says his mother was a movie star. They arrive at the dining room, and Simon excuses himself. Jessica tells Flora that Simon gave her brandy.

There’s a flourish of trumpets and Vialle arrives with a well-dressed woman. Vialle says she’s been able to locate Simon’s mother, Felicity. Flora pushes herself back from the table.

Flora pricks “Felicity” with a fingernail, and she falls to the floor. Vialle screams, demanding that someone arrest Flora for murder. “Felicia” liquefies. Trent comes in, looks around, and leaves. Guards rush in. Benedict arrives. He declares that since “Felicity” was only a piece of shadow, there was no murder. Flora says that “Felicity” wasn’t Simon’s mother. Jessica figures the situation out and runs out. She goes to Simon’s room. She tells him that Flora melted Felicity. They talk, “argue”, and he gives her more brandy. She leaves.
