An Apology with Love
Kiera walked into Botany Bay, guitar strapped over her shoulders. Weaving in among the plants, she found Joshua potting some new seedlings, patting in the soil with tender care. Hopping up on the bench, she put her fingers to her lips and settled the guitar in her lap.
Tuning the strings gently, she gave him a soft smile and began the first notes:

The people ask me how,
How I’ve lived till now.
I tell them I don’t know.
I guess they understand
How lonely life has been.
But life began again
The day you took my hand.
And, yes, I know how lonely life can be.
The shadows follow me, and the night won’t set me free.
But I don’t let the evening get me down
Now that you’re around me.
And you love me, too.
Your thoughts are just for me;
You set my spirit free.
I’m happy that you do.
The book of life is brief
And once a page is read,
All but love is dead.
That is my belief.
And, yes, I know how loveless life can be.

But I don’t let the evening bring me down
Now that you’re around me.
And I love you so.'
The people ask me how,'
How I’ve lived till now.
I tell them, "I don’t know."
She let the last gentle note linger in the air and shrugged. "Old Earth That Was singer. . .Don McLean. Wedding song for you and Rina maybe?" She slipped to the ground, just as carefully guarding the guitar as when she went up. Her eyes closed for a moment and she held onto the bench to weather the vertigo before giving him another soft smile. "Sorry to be riding you so hard." And then a gentle smirk. "Zach gave me some perspective. On riding." The grin evolved into a leer with an accompanying blush. "Anyway, I'll try to back off. You're a big boy." With a wink, she headed towards the door to leave him to his peace.
Joshua stood there, his hands still in the soil where they had started. He let Kiera get to the door before saying softly, but audibly, "Thank you, Kiera. It's perfect."
As usual, he never knew which way the wind blew with Kiera, but right now, it seemed to be a gentle breeze in the right direction. Joshua could live with that.
