The Four Questions[edit]

1) Why are you more loyal to the Empress and/or the Realm than the average Dynast?

answer

2) Who do you serve, apart from the Empress? Who else constitutes a superior?

answer

3) What did you openly achieve in the past century that makes you a worthy subject for historians of the next Age to investigate thoroughly?

Legion of Silence Special Detachment Six, The Inquisitors of Sound Readiness. When he arrived on the Blessed Isle, Brass Wolf was dissatisfied with the security and readiness he saw in many a war manse and military base. In order to correct these many failings, Brass put together an elite unit within the Legion of Silence.

The purpose of this unit was to perform mock attacks on military installations throughout the Realm, and judge the base commander’s response. The sites chosen for this special attention were always secondary and tertiary bases and those not under the direct control of the Empress. Imperial War Manses were strictly forbidden, despite Brass Wolf’s desire to make an attempt. Brass Wolf was usually forced to schedule the test ahead of time, in order to accommodate everyone busy and loaded calendar.

Brass Wolf bristled at this ridiculous requirement, which essentially defeated the purpose of the exercise. So, he took it upon himself to arrive early. In a majority of the cases, the base was caught by surprise. Leading a unit of mortals, Brass Wolf regularly made a mockery of Class 5 war manse security forces. His favorite tactic was to infiltrate deep into the heart of a manse, and de-tune the hearthstone, infuriating whoever might have been attuned. This almost invariably resulted in a poor or worse fitrep for the base commander, and a follow up reposting of said individual.

Among those who abuse their leadership privilege, Brass Wolf earned many potent enemies. The rank and file soldiers loved his blatant contempt of unworthy officers and generals. A handful of high-ranking individuals secretly approved of his actions, and quietly pulled strings to aim him towards their own targets.

The stink being raised by the loud and insufferable has risen all the way to the Empress herself. She has yet to even allow the issue to be brought before her. Only by her Grace does Brass Wolf continue to pursue his crusade. Woe be to him if she were to withdraw her unspoken approval.

4) What weaknesses do you possess that aren't just personal failings, but could be exploited by your enemies to cost you the Game of Thrones? What are the fields of engagement where you can't just apply Game Theory analysis, but instead will act against your interests?

answer

Backstory[edit]

(Was unable to find an up to date backstory. This is some of the information posted and some suggestions from the GM)

Brass Wolf was one of the Empress’ many varied and expendable tools. Brass Wolf was fully aware of his standing, and welcomed it. He loved his work, and was supremely effective at it, regularly completing daring operations deemed too risky by others. His zeal for his work combined with his personal infatuation with the Empress made any umbrage improbable.

The Blood ran strong and pure through Brass Wolf‘s body. A lost egg exalting at a young age, Brass Wolf was never adopted by any of the Houses. Instead, he immediately enrolled in the School. Its’ not clear how he was able to attain entry into The School of Hard Knocks. Theories suggest it was at this time that the Empress first noticed Brass Wolf, and the strong blood coursing through his body. It’s also likely it was the Empress who secretly sponsored him, and paid for his schooling.

His years at the school were not easy. For most of the time he had to play catch up to his dynast classmates. Many of his classmates looked down at him because of his unsophisticated beginnings. Brass Wolf wasn’t affected by the treatment. Since his exaltation he had been living in a constant state of déjà vu. He began to suspect he wasn’t even living his own life. Eventually he came to terms with the odd sensation, and focused on what occupied most his thoughts, the onset of an unassailable libido.

His sexual conquests in combination with the typical dynast attitude about his upbringing resulted in many personal duels. He became an expert swordsman and duelist, participating in no fewer than thirty duels of note. It was during a particularly heated duel against Tepet Akwaba that Brass Wolf received his famous eskhara, or dueling scar, across the left side of his face.

Brass graduated towards the top of his class, but with no special honors. He was swiftly billeted with the Infallible Crimson Legion, one of the Empress’ favorite legions. Initially assigned as a banner carrier and ranger, Brass eventually rose through the ranks to Colonel. He was a self motivator who preferred doing things his own way. Typically instead of giving him orders, his commanders assigned him a result and allowed Brass to accomplish the mission anyway he saw fit.

This is when The Empress, having kept tabs on Brass Wolf, acquired him as one of her personal agents.

Death's Toe is approved tacitly as Brass Wolf. However, because I'm approving so many ideas, and because I prefer the original vibe you were pushing, I'm going to make some pretty big asks. The below strong suggestions are designed to tie in you and chrespo's approved ideas, and to mix you both in with eugenics, brainwashing, Duncan Idaho and mystic genetics: 1) He comes from the same creepy breeding program as Nellens Vieu 2) Like Vieu, he is adopted into House Nellens, and was trained exclusively for one purpose, rather than proper socialisation 3) Drop being part of the normal army, and have him be also under a century old 3) You play up the creepy otherness of being a fanatical soldier with dragon-powers, and not a soldier ofthe dynasty.

I had many of your asks in mind, but I think I was to subtle in my first background writeup. I'll have some more written today and a character sheet.

One thing I'd like to get your thoughts on is the relationship between Brass and the Empress, which is somewhat like the one between Duncan and Leto. I had an idea that he had a Dark Fate associated with her. He is obsessed with her. His feelings towards her are never clear. He loves her, lusts after her, and worships her. At the same time he despises, fears, and envies her.

I don't think this is particularly unique for a Dyanst. In this case, there is his eugenics background, and the tie to house Nellens. Further, he doesn't hide his conflicting feelings from her, and so she is completely aware of what is going on. This only confuses him further.

Finally, I'm going to re-read the thread, answer your earlier questions, and look for connections to other characters.

I approve, though I don't want the relationship to be overly close to start with, because that diminishes her mystery somewhat. I paticularly like the idea of a Dark Fate.

Perhaps he is formally attached to the Legion of Silence in some capacity, serving as a secret bodyguard and palace security-man, and so he sees her more than most, but from afar. He sees her, and envies her, and watches her do her thing, but never really gets to interact with her, not like the proper dynasts, who she treats as family, if also as enemies.
