Background

Spending the Winter of TA 2947, with you, in Beorn's Hall, is Eirik son Eirling, a young man of barely 16, who traveled from Lake-town with some merchants, but remained here. Having foregone the family trade of boatsman he wishes to see the world, and learn firsthand what he has only read in the Town Hall books or gathered from the numerous travellers who pass through Esgaroth. He pays for his keep by playing tunes from many a culture - lays of Dorwinion, Ancient Mannish minuets, Elvish laments… - and is a joyful and merry companion to have around. But he yearns for Winter to end, so he can answer his impetuous calling, this adventurous side of youth he has… and some of you wonder what will happen when he is confronted with the reality of the Wilderlands, for it is obvious his head is full of legends, but he has never been in the world.

Thus he has come all this way without any armor, not even the leather cap! Though he does have a fine sword and a Great-shield, that he seems to carry and twirl as though it were a buckler - those who have traveled know this to be a secret of the Boatmen of Esgaroth.

But winter is not over yet, so toss another log onto the fire, and tell Eirik which of his instruments - harp, flute or tambourine - you prefer, and let us sing the night away…
