Joran Background

Joran Whetstone, Bison Rider of the Skull Bat Clan

Joran is a member of the Bison Tribe, and the younger brother of a certain Donan, known as Carver, a follower of Storm Bull. When he was born the Shaman said that Joran would keep Donan safe so that he could achieve his destiny, and as they were growing up Joran proved to be the smarter of the two, acting as Donan's lookout and telling him when top run and hide from the wrath of the adult population. Joran and Donan were inseparable.

Joran showed his intelligence by, when Donan began to follow the path of Storm Bull, Joran did not. He did however, come to the notice of old Grimblood, the Shaman, who has taken a mild interest in Joran's maturation and spent time with him teaching him some more unusual Folk Magics, than the ones usually taught to Riders. When queried on this, Grimblood has merely smiled and said it is always wise to have eyes everywhere when looking after the herds.

Joran has travelled to Pavis a few times on trading missions with the clan, and recently met up with his Brother once more only to hear about his embarrassing defeat in a duel by a woman, not once but three times! Joran does note that Donan is more careful and even slightly tactical in his fights against the local broo since this.

So Joran has travelled to Pavis himself to meet and thank this female warrior for providing such a valuable lesson to his brother. Now, how to find this Griselda? Oh, and while he’s there, he’s been asked to look up one Dusky Marna, and her son Barnii. Barnii is the son of Jandor, a Warrior of the Clan who led some trade missions to Pavis Joran herded for a few years ago. According to Jandor, Marna is “a game girl” and to make sure Barnii is staying out of too much trouble!
