The Echo of Sanctity (The Silver Crown, the Threefold Coronet)[edit]

This Echo represents the manipulation of the Wake and of the minds and emotions of others – the Leviathan's ability to impress his or her will upon those around them. Its expressions provide the ability to instill and direct emotion and thought.

Birthright: Parting the School (0-level effect)[edit]

The Leviathan gives off an inaudible sound or produces a pheremone cloud that resonates with the Wake, directing large groups of individuals. While this power is in effect, large masses of humans beings and aquatic animals instinctually part around the character and then return seamlessly to their original positions – the Leviathan could run at full speed through a crowded party without running into anyone, or fluidly walk through a queue to the front. A violent crowd will not impede the character or strike him as he is moving, but is free to assault him otherwise – they will simply be incapable of circling him, politely parting to let him pass each time they encircle him. The crowd parts only for the Leviathan and will provide the normal impediment to all others – as two Marduk agents discovered in a crowded mosh pit in the eighties, as a small Cohort discovered this power's combat applications.

Parting the School lasts for a scene. It does not require a roll to invoke, but only affects normal creatures that are completely subject to the Wake – even the moderate resistance provided by being a supernatural being is sufficient to stifle it entirely.

      • Cost: 2 Ichor
      • Dice Pool: None
      • Action: Instant

Lure (O)[edit]

The Leviathan's features or scent undergo a subtle shift that plays directly into the warped impression imposed by the Wake, pushing others to see him or her in the most favorable light.

While in a Depth in which this power is active, the Leviathan gains a +1 modifier to Presence and Manipulation rolls related to making use of his or her physical looks, resembling the two-dot version of the Merit Striking Looks. This only affects rolls made in regards to targets subject to the Wake. The bonus stacks with the real Merit, allowing a Leviathan with that Merit to make a truly godlike impression.

Affected characters will remember the Leviathan's looks as they perceived them – they'll be able to identify the Leviathan at a later date but will distinctly feel like he or she "got uglier" in the interim.

      • Cost: None - Permanent feature
      • Dice Pool: None
      • Action: Instant
  • Evolution (oo): At Depth 3+, the bonus increases to +2, as per the four-dot version of Striking Looks.

Sense the Predator (O)[edit]

The Leviathan develops a new sensory organ or extends micro-filamant feelers – regardless, he now can feel the way that his Wake interacts with other beings, and can distinguish and isolate problem areas. The Leviathan can feel the blank spots formed by creatures that are resistant or immune to the Wake, and can sometimes even detect the trembling presence of rebellion in unwary minds.

Wake-resistant or -immune creatures that perceive the character making use of this power can reflexively oppose it, attempting to project the appropriate subservience and read as a normal mortal. Compare this resistance to see the degree to which the Leviathan senses them, but resistance for one subject does not shield another.

      • Cost: 2 Ichor
      • Dice Pool: Perception + Sheol (vs. Composure + power stat)
      • Action: Instant

Roll Results[edit]

  • Dramatic Failure: The character receives a false reading – misidentifying a resistant subject as a normal mortal or a normal mortal as secretly resilient.
  • Failure: No apparent problems.
  • Success: Detects the presence and number of resistant creatures in the Wake.
  • Exceptional Success: Detects if any mortal subject to the Wake is secretly harboring ill intent towards the Leviathan * that they intend to act on within the near future or if that subject is unusually (suspiciously) anxious about their presence.

Suggested Modifiers[edit]

  • +1 There are more than 10 Wake-vulnerable subjects in the region
  • +1 in Depth 3
  • +2 in Depth 5 (Instead of, not including, the above)
  • -1 The Leviathan is not openly displaying their presence (hiding, skulking, etc.) or otherwise trying to downplay the Wake.
  • -1 Large quantities of electrical equipment in the region

Imposing Silence (OO)[edit]

The Leviathan gives off a subsonic hum or produces a disorienting phosphorescent display which interferes with the minds of those subject to its Wake, forcing them into awed silence unless the Leviathan wishes for them to speak. Wake-resistant creatures can also be stifled but resist more easily.

For the duration of the effect, valid targets in the region cannot speak unless they defeat the Leviathan in an contested roll, which permits them to speak for long enough to get out a handful of sentences. The Leviathan may chose to acknowledge a subject to permit them to speak freely (essentially forfeiting the opposed roll). An exceptional victory on a resistance roll permits the Leviathan to prohibit resistance for the rest of the scene, or allows the subject to speak freely as though the effect were not in place.

Imposing Silence lasts for about five minutes.

      • Cost: 2 Ichor
      • Dice Pool: Presence + Intimidation + Sheol (vs. Willpower + power stat)
      • Action: Instant, Contested.
