The Scorpion Armigers

Aquabuamelu, Girtablilu, the Scorpion Armigers: The rarely seen Scorpion Armigers wage eternal war against many Primordial Races- themselves included. Savage and unapproachable, they stand eternal guard many sacred areas, especially Matrices that Wurms like to feed on.

They are a completely inhuman race- Blending amphibian and arachnid traits into a nightmarish draconic monster. Called derisively "Water-Wyverns" by the Tendrils, the two races fight for the corpse-energies of fallen Tiamat. Some Leviathans theorize that the Girtablilu are the Rememberers who swore fealty to Tiamat. In the ancient times, they made war with the Annunaki, and the cosmic blood-feud exists to this day. They slaughtered the Naga by the millions and tore their ziggurats asunder for their sidereal hubris. An Armiger will stop at nothing to destroy the Serpent Men, unless a Tendril is at work in the area, that is.

The Armigers are Elemental Vengeance, antediluvian devas of death and war and terror. Relentless hunters, armed with Poison and Fang and the Deepest Echoes. Aquabuamelu have been compared to the bestial Cherubim and Seraphim of Judeo-Christian Mythology, although one shudders the thought of a human prophet coming to such a fevered conclusion and continuing with his mind and flesh whole. In accordance with the ancient blood oaths the Champions and High Priests of the Primordials (the Leviathan's Ancestors) made with the Armigers, a Aquabuamelu will sometimes appear to a Leviathan to impart some aid in occulted warfare-- if the Stars are Right and a Test is Passed.

They are the guardians of many sacred Shaols and potent Matrices. An unexpected facet of the Girtablilu is their tendency to swear generational vigilance over a bloodline or community of Lamahsu... Guarding them from the gatewaters, just out of sight, for generations. They do not do it out of altruism, however. The Girtablilu would not even understand the concept. The details of each sworn Armiger's pact is different. Some are sworn to serve any Leviathan that rises among them- some are bound to terminate in the same situation.

In whatever (if any) sense the Girtablilu can be understood in human terms- the word "Arrogant" often comes up. Despite their history as serving as bloodline guardians, Armigers look down upon all of the Primordial races as weaker and lesser then they. They, and they alone were created from the Elder World (as the Rememberers), but blessed by Primordial Tiamat- and have endured in this age of Tempests.

They show scorn for failure Leviathans, hatred for the Naga, pity for the Rememberers, fury at the Wurms, distrust for the Sisters of Many, excitement at the prospect of destroying a powerful Typhon, and contemptuous disinterest in Atolls. Even when they protect Lamahsus, it is almost as if they do it to suggest that the Leviathans cannot do it themselves. A Leviathan can strike dangerous oaths and oaths with these creatures of the deep Primeval Ocean, but they can never be Negotiated With.

As for humans? Humans are food, everyone knows that. Dirt. They have no time for cults. In times throught history, the Armigers have risen from the Gatewaters to reave and destroy entire villages, cities, and nations of human beings- for oath or pure fury none can say. Many Leviathans have seen a frightening rise in both frequency and scale of hostile Girablilu incursions in the last decade. The few times a Marduk Conclave has encountered a Girtablilu in all of its draconic glory- the Tempest has raged. And if the latest news is any indication- it will again.
