He's a complex man - he's in competition with the Schadaleres, as it were, but he's never shown any animosity to them, and even trades invitations to social events with Elise. Neither ever attends, but they do offer.

On the other hand, if even half of rumor is true, crossing him means the most painful and humiliating death he can imagine. And apparently, his imagination is boundless.
