Mnemon Guilo's Relationships

Guilo's Opinions:

  • Cynis Hasijna Kytharsis: "Ah, Kytharsis... she's the best of us. A toast to the Satrap of Caspian!"

"Ah, Kytharsis... she's the best of us. A toast to the Satrap of Caspian!" Guilo busy into Kythri's public image totally, which means that although she considers Kythari one of her closest friends, she really isn't half as close to the other girl as she thinks. She never saw Kythari's accomplishments as overshadowing hers, but as complimenting her own and her reasons for avoiding the blossoming prodigy of House Cynis was out of a desire not to drag her friend into her own disgrace, not any jealousy - she'd die of boredom in a week running a Satrapy. Her only visits to Caspian since the other woman took over were hardly of a nature to make it appropriate to visit however - a cutting out expedition burnt down three blocks of Caspian's harbour on one occasion and outraged several of the merchant backers to the pirates who make their home there.

  • Cynis Hasijna Zende: "I can't say I approve of him... but he has an irritating habit of making me think, about Gateway and other things."

Zende was barely of note to Guilo until he saved Falia from Tokkera's malice. While they watched over their injured friend, they passed the time with Gateway, finding themselves evenly matched. Since then, the games have formed the central thread to their relationship, played when they meet and by post when they cannot. They left a game half played when Guilo was called away for her fateful duel with Falia and although they have played many games since, she occasionally reconstructs it on a board, regretfully - Zende refused to finish the game until she straightened her life out and she's been polishing her possible strategies ever since.

  • Nellens Vaigu: "Little Vaigu... I tried to take her in hand, but what can one do? I think I miss her, actually."

Guilo has never been anything but condescending towards Vaigu, but in her own way wanted the best for her: which in her eyes meant marriage to a suitable mortal dynast and incorporation into one of the Great Houses. Guilo would even have sponsored such an arrangement, just as she offhanded provided assistance to Vaigu in their younger days whether the outcaste wanted it or not. But Desro, whether he realised it or not, was simply too high born for her and it was for the best that the matter was settled before anything could come of it (in fairness, Guilo's own breeding, despite being a Mnemon, probably wouldn't be distinguished enough to court one of V'Neef's grandchildren).

  • Ragara Calel Falia: "I shouldn't blame her for beating me. I guess I just don't want to blame myself."

Falia was one of Guilo's roommates and a considerate one, always able to give Guilo some space for personal time with Ravel or up for a friendly armwrestle or a roll of the dice. They were also regular sparring partners in arms training and teammates on the drill fields. Guilo, personally, felt that the Ragara girl lacked a little ambition - all of Creation out there to take and she wanted to go back to her family? What was that about? Still, given how coldly she was cut off by her own House after disappointing Mnemon, perhaps there's something to it. Several years of intense combat has since convinced her that the duel, disasterous as it was, would have been far worse had it been at the hands of someone who genuinely wanted her dead. She isn't any less embarassed but she isn't going to take it personally.

  • Sesus Denerid Ravel: "Dammit, why!? He was supposed to be mine!"

Ravel's engagement to Guilo predates their attendance at the House of Bells. The match was a good one and Guilo saw little of his cruelties and wrote off the rest as the usual cut-throat social order of the school in effect. As such, she missed seeing much of the change that came over him after the vision and found his newfound piety mildly amusing. It wasn't until he broke the engagement with her to enter the Immaculate Order that she realised that he had changed, but even that realisation does not mute the anger she feels at being scorned even for a vocation. Should she ever learn of his tryst with Kythri, the consequences would probably be violent.

  • Tepet Usera: "Lucky wench. I'd trade places with her in a heartbeat if it wouldn't strip her of what she's justly earned."

Guilo wants what Usera has: a respected place in the Legions, status and prestige within her House and a reputation as one of the more admirable strategists around (even if Arada and Ejava are perhaps more notorious as representatives of House Tepet's military acumen). She's delighted that Usera has these things, of course: but while Falia was her training partner and Kythri (she thought) her ally, Usera was a friendly rival and the one Guilo intended - and still intends - to someday surpass.

  • V'Neef Desro: "He's an entertaining fellow, but really, Vaigu was all wrong for him."

When Guilo first met Desro she was a touch intimidated by his excellent breeding but he quickly set her at ease and they were friends from then on, if friends with few direct interests in common. She made a point of looking out for him, undeniably in part for the long term political advantage, but equally because he was simply pleasent company when she relaxed. She was looking out for him as much as Vaigu when she disrupted any action on his crush and was astonished at the suggestion that Kythrsis had arranged her actions, much less at the notion that there had been any malice involved. Now that the heat is gone from the arguement, and Vaigu out of the picture, she'd cheerfully let bygones be bygones - as long as no one rakes the matter up again.
