History[edit]

Chiharu's barely been at the school for a full year. Her family moved half a dozen times while she was growing up, so she's sort of gotten used to not having many friends, and while she's a pretty good member of the archery club, she barely talks to anybody outside of practices, and doesn't really seem interested in shopping, karaoke, or any of those other things her peers do for fun. She uses all the free time this gives her to pursue her many hobbies, most of which she's pretty good at. This detachment mostly just makes people believe that she thinks she's better than everybody else, and coupled with her stoic demeanor, she's gotten a bit of a reputation as an ice queen. Or, according to some of the less polite nicknames that have started circulating, a robot.

Personality[edit]

... on the other hand, she gets more anxious when she thinks about talking to other people than they probably do about her, and her standoffish behavior is partially a defense mechanism to keep herself out of any uncomfortable social encounters. So, the occasional love letter goes unanswered, nobody's seen most of her paintings except two art teachers and her family, and she walks home alone most nights. The few people who do actually rope her into conversations find her to be pretty careless and socially clueless anyway.

On some level, Chiharu realizes that she's come to think of herself as the sort of person who just doesn't have friends, and that if she just developed some social skills, she might be popular or her talents might get recognized. Of course, that annoyance with herself doesn't really help build her confidence, either, and the frustration and envy she feels when she sees how easily everybody else seems to get along only reinforces her desire to keep her distance. In her darker moments, she's half-convinced they're all against her anyway. It's the only explanation for how people less skilled sometimes get more attention.

NPCs[edit]

School[edit]

Liked: Shimabukuro Maasa, former class rep. She was the one who helped Chiharu get used to the new school, and she's still one of the classmates Chiharu's on the best terms with. Occasional recipient of Chiharu's near-famous boxed lunches.

Disliked: Yada Hideyoshi, senior. Member of the soccer team, and all-around tough guy. He probably would've escaped Chiharu's notice, if she hadn't been volunteering at a shelter the day he brought a rather sickly housecat in. She strongly suspects that he neglected it, and that's one of the few ways to draw her ire. ... he, of course, barely knows she exists, so it's not much of a rivalry so far.

Teacher: Tanaka Tatsuko, art teacher. She's invested enough in Chiharu's artistic skills to give her the occasional afterschool lesson, and is pretty much the only teacher who's had the patience to ease their way past Chiharu's shell.

Aspirations[edit]

  • I want to make one good friend. Just one.
  • I want to be recognized for how talented I am, by the entire school.
  • I want to find out if Yada's responsible for that poor cat's condition.

PC Relationships[edit]

  • Tsukiyama: "She's polite, well-organized, and pets a lot of cats. We'd probably get along. Probably."
  • Tatsuya: "I heard he got into a fight last week, and he got into an argument with a teacher the week before that. Scary."
  • Daichi: "He's only scored higher than me on three of the last five tests. I've counted. So why does he get so much more praise from the teachers?"
  • Ayane: "She's like a bull in a china shop, and is... entirely too talkative. Probably best to avoid attracting her attention."
  • Haruka: "She's helped out a few of the archery events and an art show, and seems okay. But still: how can anybody smile that much?"
  • Himeko: "Even I heard about what happened at the last festival. I don't like festivals or rock concerts, so it's a wash. At least she's making the kind of music she likes, even if she... could have handled that better."
