What can jewelcrafters provide me?[edit]

For members of the society level 57 and below, jewelcrafters can produce a small variety of magical necklaces, rings, trinkets. While the variety available is not wide, they may be more suited to your particular purposes than the items you will find in your travels.

For members of levels 58 and above, your access to "socketable" equipment allows you to use magical gems cut by jewelcrafters to customise your gear. Jewelcrafters do produce necklaces, rings etc for the higher-level adventurer, but cut gems is where we can benefit you most. These gems usually provide bonuses to stats (such as +8 Intellect), spell power (+9 Healing or +9 Spell Damage), or ratings (+6 parry rating, +6 critical strike rating).

A quick guide to socketing gems[edit]

Gem sockets come in four colours: Red, Blue, Yellow and Meta. In order to enjoy the "socket bonus" of an item, each socket must be filled with a gem of the corresponding colour.

For example, if a breastplate has two blue sockets and a yellow socket, and has a listed socket bonus of "+4 stamina", you will only gain the bonus stamina if the you have a blue gem in each of the two blue sockets, and a yellow gem in the yellow socket. Any other arrangement of gems can be socketed (red gems in blue sockets, for instance), but you will not benefit from the socket bonus.

As well as red, blue and yellow gems, there are purple, green and orange gems. A purple gem counts as either a red or blue gem for socketing, a green gem blue or yellow, and orange gems count as red or yellow. In the example above, you could use three green gems and still get the socket bonus!

Finally, meta gems fit only in a meta slot, and require certain numbers of other gems to be socketed in items you're wearing for their benefits to be enjoyed. For example, a particular diamond requires "at least two blue gems and two red gems" and provides +12 Intellect, you gain the +12 int if you have two or more blue gems and two or more red gems socketed total amongst all your currently equipped items. For the purpose of satisfying meta gems, purple, green and orange gems count as *both* their primary colours. So our example diamond could be satisfied by just two purple gems.

You can change the gem in a given socket at any time. However, the gem being replaced is destroyed. It's a good idea to socket an item with cheap common gems until you're happy with the mix, and then replace them with rare gems giving higher values of the same stats.

Shangxiang's Mail Order Gem Service[edit]

In her spare time, between smiting demons and healing the wounds of her fellow adventurers, the paladin Shangxiang provides jewelcrafting services to her fellow Pig & Whistle members free of charge.

If Shangxiang is online, send a whisper with !gem and the type of gem you're interested in (such as "!gem red" or "!gem healing" or "!gem intellect") to receive links to all the jewelcrafting items of that type she can create. Just ask, and if she has the materials available, you'll receive your jewels in the mail free of charge. If the materials are not available, they will need to be sourced, probably at your expense (the work is still free!).

Shangxiang maintains a large cache of "green-rarity" gems of all colours - bloodstones, deep peridot, golden draenite etc, so requests for those cuts of gems will be instantly fulfilled. Her stock of "blue-rarity" gems like dawnstones is not large enough to be guaranteed, but quick fulfilment is still assured, whether from stockpile or AH. Meta-gems, as well as special jewellery pieces, require rare and expensive materials, and are unlikely to be fulfilled quickily or free - plan ahead!

Shangxiang is ALWAYS in the market for jewelcrafting recipes.
