{Angelo} Hi! ^_^
{lazarus} hey Angelo
{Verithe} Hello!
{Angelo} look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vez7qSrZfpc all done with a Pentax K7!
{Random_Nerd} So, any questions while we wait for Knock?
{Angelo} why we exist?
{Random_Nerd} To amuse me.
{lazarus} anyone looked at Icons yet?
{Verithe} Icons?
{Random_Nerd} Icons?
{lazarus} New superhero game from Steve Kenson
{Angelo} Don't know icons :-(
{Random_Nerd} Ah. I don't really follow supers gaming.
{Angelo} me too
{lazarus} looks actually (from the preview) to be a FATE-based superhero game. Sorta?
{Random_Nerd} Hmm.
{lazarus} and me, being addicted to superhero games ... *sigh*. My F2F group has just started a Tri-Stat supers game!
{lazarus} (200 point d10 game)
{Random_Nerd} Let's see. Laz, were you there last session?
{lazarus} Um. I wasn't here last week, but I believe I was the one before?
{lazarus} I apparently don't have a scrollback at the moment, due to a crash earlier today
{Random_Nerd} Well, last week there was no session.
{Random_Nerd} You were there for the one with the dogs?
{BethE} Last week we were not at home.
{Angelo} we handle a dog problem
{lazarus} ah, right.
{lazarus} yes.
{lazarus} the creepy-ass session.
{lazarus} (as opposed to the creepy ass-session, which I hope we never have)
{Random_Nerd} (I see you read XKCD.)
{lazarus} (ayuh)
{Angelo} what is XKCD?
{Random_Nerd} Online webcomic.
{Random_Nerd} xkcd.com
{BethE} Geek oriented webcomic.

{Knockwood} Hi guys, sorry I'm late
{Random_Nerd} Hey.
{BethE} Hi Knock!
{Verithe} Hullo
{Angelo} Hi K!
{lazarus} hey kwd
=-= BethE is now known as Theresa
=-= lazarus is now known as Brian
=-= Verithe is now known as Kite
=-= Knockwood is now known as DanteE
=-= YOU are now known as Ftiskrad
{DanteE} (Did you notice that Jenna has been posting to the 'Is EOS press dead?' thread?)
{Kite} Is this what Ftisk/Conrad is calling himself/herself now?
{Random_Nerd} That the new edition will be out, and will have mortals rules that work?
{Brian} (had NOT noticed!)
{Kite} I had!
{Brian} RN: would we switch to the new edition if it comes out?
{Ftiskrad} @ Kite: is a fluid think the Ftisk/Conrad name...
{Ftiskrad} Ah, I really aim to slowly return to Ftisk name
{Random_Nerd} Depends. I'd have to look at the new edition, and decide if it would work better.
{Kite} Ah.
{DanteE} so, we were talking to a human Anchor transformed to a dog...
{Ftiskrad} AAAnd we want to find t he noble that anchored him And ask some question...
{Kite} Who, as far as we can tell, doesn't know he's an Anchor.
{Ftiskrad} uhm. Is possible to a noble to NOT be aware to have one anchor? I think no
{Theresa} Sounds like someone really _hated_ him. Conrad can probably look up the guy's mortal life and see if he did something like kill his wife or such.
{Random_Nerd} An anchor could not be aware that he is an anchor. A Noble cannot create an anchor by accident.
{Kite} That's what I meant.
{DanteE} Or, we can ask if he ever was forced to swallow someone's blood...
{Ftiskrad} Oh, I understand the inverse way Kite :-(
{Ftiskrad} or tears
{DanteE} ~60 years ago
{Kite} 'Salright. :)
{Ftiskrad} btw we can test on it miracle to gauge spirit level from the Noble?
{DanteE} you mean a Witchhunt Rite?
{Random_Nerd} Anchors only have their Nobles auctoritas level when the Noble is actively possessing the anchor.
{Ftiskrad} I mean to overcome anchor immunity we need to overcome the creating Noble spirit or I'm miss remembering?
{Kite} My wild assumption is that his wife is the Noble. But, wild assumptions being what they are, it is based on very little.
{Ftiskrad} Oh, thank you for the correction.
{Random_Nerd} You can't overcome anchorlike immunity to direct miracles by adding penetration.
{Ftiskrad} well the other one can be the noble.
{Kite} Ex-wife, since they divorced.
{Random_Nerd} But an anchor has no protection against indirect miracles.
{DanteE} well, if she did this, would they have to divorce?
{Brian} But since "anchorlike" applies to a lot in this universe...
{Kite} Not really, unless she felt particularly spiteful.
{Random_Nerd} Let's see, Nobles, Shards, most Excrucians, Anchors, Inheritors, Imperators, some few Magical Inhabitants.
{DanteE} ... which would qualify, if he cheated on her
{Brian} and "GM Reserves The Right" things
{Kite} Well, the wife cheated on him, according to his story.
{Ftiskrad} Yes, _his_ history
{Ftiskrad} We don't have a objective picture here
{Random_Nerd} Shall we start?
{DanteE} Sure
{Theresa} Which is why I would want to see the mortal records and see if his wife or her boyfriend died in weird ways. For all we know, this is a work of Consequences.
{Brian} sure. Just don't scare us for life this time :p
{Kite} I permit starting. *waves hand mock-royally*
{Random_Nerd} _____________START____________________
{Random_Nerd} Mike the newly non-rotting large mutt stretches his legs, and sighs.
{Ftiskrad} "uh.. there is a rite that let us discover this anchor at witch noble is linked?"
{Random_Nerd} The German shepherd and the smaller dogs continue to huddle together.
{Brian} "Not that I know of. And I'm sure the Aides would love to know of one, too"
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Kidnap him and see who complains?"
{DanteE} (Ftisk* still has the highest Spirit, right?)
{Brian} "If he's here like this, no one's likely to complain"
{Ftiskrad} (yep. D)
{Brian} "I mean, I can't even figure out how this could be useful in a Plan"
{DanteE} "Mike? Do you know what an Anchor is? Besides the metal thing on boats?"
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Hmm? Uh, I don't know."
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Like, a guy on the news?"
{Brian} "Sam, what can imbue Anchor-like immunity into a human, other than, well, being Anchored or En-Nobled?"
{DanteE} "...you said about 60 years ago?"
{Brian} (have we tested his Anchor-like immunity yet, or are we just assuming?)
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Let me think. A human who was previously utterly normal?"
{Random_Nerd} (You can see it with the Sight.)
{Brian} "Aye"
{Brian} (ok. So, Tested.)
{Random_Nerd} (Not shiny enough to be Noble, too much to be just mundane.)
{DanteE} "There's a ritual that involves having you ingest someone's blood or tears. Do you remember something like that?"
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Let's see. Enchanceling-related effects. Imperial Miracles. Weird Stuff. Maybe something else."
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Does... does the thing the other dogs do count?"
{DanteE} "This would be before. When you were still human."
{Brian} "There's likely no record-keeping of that, eh Sam?" *pause* "I suppose if we were in-Chancel, we could look for, um, Miraculous Threads tying him to something or someone else?"
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "I don't know. Not that I remember. But that's been a long time."
{Ftiskrad} "well, we can go in channel..."
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "I don't know if you can see stuff like that. I'm not really clear on how some of your magic works."
{Kite} "It could have been someone he bumped into at a pub while in a drunken stupor."
{Theresa} "Conrad, can you find any data connected to the name Mike (whatever his last name is)?"
{DanteE} "What happened right before you became a dog?"
{Brian} "It also depends on how the other magic works. If there's anything lasting binding him."
{Ftiskrad} "I can look"
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "I almost froze to death."
{Kite} "Were you prone to drunken stupors, Mike?"
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Not... for most of my life. For a bit, there, at the end."

  • Ftiskrad do a ld of Data on Mike {insert appropriate surname}

{Kite} (Cook)
{DanteE} (at least it's not Hunt. :) )
{Ftiskrad} (muchas gratias Kite!)
{Random_Nerd} (There's various Mike Cooks, but if you cross-reference with what you already know and with the right time period, you've found a few things that may be the right guy.)
{Kite} (He also said that he might have been Tyler)
{DanteE} (He'd have mysteriously disappeared about 60 years ago...)
{Ftiskrad} (and doing a second cross referencing with Tyler name?
{Random_Nerd} (First, his military service record. U.S. Army, private first class, served on the Western Front in WWII. Second, a record of his divorce from Kathleen Cook, a bit over sixty years ago. Third, a citation in Paris for vagrancy about six months after the divorce.)
{Random_Nerd} ("Tyler" shows up in the records around the divorce as the name of a dog, which Mike got in the divorce.)
{Theresa} (How'd he get from Paris to...oh, wait, we're in Paris.)
{DanteE} (Bingo)
{Theresa} (No, wait, we're in London!)
{Random_Nerd} (Correct.)
{Ftiskrad} (well, can be the right one, dogs travel a lot)
{Kite} (Well that's just sad. His pet was the first sacrifice.)
{Kite} (Poor Tyler)
{Ftiskrad} "Tyler, do you had some owner in the past?"
{Brian} (right question: "how'd you get to London?" First thought: dog wasn't /sacrifice/ ... dog and person /merged/. Though I have no idea HOW)
{DanteE} (... didn't he look like a skinned dog?)
{Random_Nerd} (He looked like a dog whose skin was rotting, and wasn't really attached properly.)
{DanteE} (And I think whoever fingered his ex-wife may have hit it...)
{DanteE} (How about when he was switching skins?)
{Random_Nerd} Dog: "Are you talking to me?"
{Random_Nerd} (Then, the whole dog, loose/rotting skin and all, crawled into the dying dog, and merged with it.)
{Ftiskrad} "Yes, you aren't called Tyler?"
{Kite} (Perhaps we look up Kathleen, then?)
{Random_Nerd} "I don't know. His mind isn't in here, not that I can tell. But I still look like him, not like any of the others."
{Ftiskrad} (Yep, next thing to do is that)
{DanteE} (Of course, Ftisk needs to share what he found with us so we can act on it IC... :) )
{Ftiskrad} (oh, I forgot.)

  • Ftiskrad recount all the ld discover on Tyler

{Ftiskrad} (to Tyler too)
{DanteE} "Hm... Sam, the name Kathleen Cook ring any bells?"
{Kite} (*watches the montage*)
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Yeah, that's the right one. How'd you do that?"
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "No... should it?"
{Brian} "Magic"
{DanteE} "Might be a Noble. Mike, what was your wife's maiden name?"
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Uh... Rudd. Why?"
{DanteE} "Sam, is there a Noble named Kathleen Rudd?"
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Checking the list."
{Random_Nerd} Sam's ear-sphere gleams in the dark room.
{Kite} "Ooh!"
{Theresa} (Down, Kite!  :) )
{Brian} "So, Mike, do you remember how you got to London?"
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "It's not in the oracle. So, either, no, not by that name, not on Earth, or she's secretive."
{DanteE} (Did you think of something or did someone goose a bird? :) )

  • Kite pokes the oracle.

{Theresa} (Dante - _shiny_.)
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Boat, walked."
{Kite} (Exactly)
{Brian} "You brought your dog with you?"
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Would you please not do that? It's the mysterious physical embodiment of an oath and stuff."
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Couldn't leave him behind again. Especially when it was just us."
{Kite} "Is there any way I could get one?"
{DanteE} What does Mike look like in Mythic?
{Theresa} (I love Sam.)
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Depends. One exactly like this? Only if you swore certain binding oaths to the Society of Aides."
{Random_Nerd} (Mike looks like a large mixed-breed dog, with tears rolling down his face and with a tarnished copper crown bolted to his head.)
{Kite} "I'm only keen on the visuals, Sam."
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Um... a ball bearing? Big one?"
{DanteE} "What happened to Tyler, Mike?"
{Kite} "That sometimes glows in the dark."
{Random_Nerd} He shifts uneasily.
{Theresa} (I have a bad feeling...more so than usual.)
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Now, I'm not quite clear on this part. I was just about frozen to death at that point, and I was pretty drunk, too. But as near as i can remember... well, you saw it. With the bulldog."
{Random_Nerd} The other dogs shiver.
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "And when I woke up the next day, I was alive, and I looked like him."
{DanteE} (Power of Dogs.)
{Brian} "Sam, can you look up who's been fucking with us, 'cause this ain't funny..." (... I wonder if Sam would be able to tell the dry sarcasm?)
{DanteE} (How long a list would you like? :) )
{Theresa} (I thought Entropy was going to buy you dinner first?)
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Let's see... list of people who've been fucking with you."
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Entropy. Ha'Qadosh Berakha. Jan ben Jan. The Power of Physics. The actual mythic embodiment of Physics. That little demon Dante adopted."
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Oh! And me."
{Theresa} "You didn't buy me dinner first, Sam."
{Kite} "Well, that's a relief."
{Ftiskrad} (not me! I'm outraged Sam don't included ME!)
{Kite} "We can kill two of them, easy."
{Theresa} (You're only into Dante!)
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Oh, and that floating head thing. The Power of Patterns. That walking tree kid..."
{Brian} "huh. I thought it was longer than that."
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Am I leaving anything out?"
{Brian} "Can any of them do this?"
{Brian} "for that matter, can a scrunchie cause this?"
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Hmm. The Imperators could, if they wanted to."
{Ftiskrad} (right T, I need to widen my scope a bit)
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "...not easily. This is /weird/. Excrucian abilities tend to be either limited and direct, or at least straightforwardly destructive or deceptive."
{DanteE} "Hold on. Think a second... who would be very upset at killing a dog, and inclined to make the perpetrator a dog?"
{Kite} (Grabbing lunch, brb)
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "One would have to deliberately and intentionally devote miraculous energies to developing the ability to do weird things with dogs."
{Ftiskrad} "A power of dogs!"
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Hey! I didn't kill Tyler. I didn't even ask him to do it. That was /his/ idea."
{Ftiskrad} "Or related"
{Brian} "Power of Loyalty?"
{Brian} "Sam, is there one?"
{DanteE} "Are you sure? You were drunk and freezing."
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Hey, fuck you."
{Brian} "He demands dinner first."
{Brian} "and he's not a great conversationalist"
{Theresa} "Why were you drunk and freezing?"
{Kite} "Besides, there's a bit of a queue."
{Brian} (I'm apparently Snarky!Brian today)
{Kite} (Are they collectible, the Brians?)
{Brian} (somewhat. More like a box of chocolates, though)
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Have you ever tried to get an airplane to let you take a big dog on a cross-continental flight? In the Fourties? In coach class?"
{DanteE} (are they bobbleheads?)
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Well, trust me, it's not a thing you'd do if you didn't care about the dog."
{DanteE} "Come to think of it... even if he's not involved, the Power of Dogs can help us here."
{Ftiskrad} "Exist a power of dog?"
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Is there one? I think there's an Imperator of Dogs, but does he have a Noble?"
{Kite} "Was the dog that disgusting?"
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Less so than me, if you asked some people."
{DanteE} "60 years would be 12 or more generations of street dogs..."
{Theresa} "That's a lot of misery."
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "You're tellin' me."
{Brian} (RN, did you catch my question to Sam?)
{Random_Nerd} (Which one?)
{Brian} (is there a Power of Loyalty?)
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "And if there's a Power of Loyalty, he's not active on Earth."
{Theresa} "I'm a bit leery about talking to the Imperator of Dogs. Imperators are touchy at the best of times and this could be...either beneath them or wrath of god-times."
{Brian} "That rules out all the Miraculous thoughts I had."
{Brian} "Talking to Imperators is always a risky proposition."
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Well, before you do all that... so, you people have magical powers, I hear?"
{Brian} "aye."
{Kite} (I would suggest Martyrs, but I've never met her.)
{Ftiskrad} "But is fun most of the times!)
{Ftiskrad} "
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Can you fix me? Or Tyler, can you fix him?"
{DanteE} "Yes. Maybe on par with whoever did thts."
{Brian} "We don't know. We need to know what happened to you first, before we can fix it."
{Brian} "Sam, has anyone ever shown the ability of postcognition? Of seeing into the past?"
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Like... memory?"
{Brian} "... not like memory. Like seeing exactly what happened to him then."
{Ftiskrad} "Like tv"
{DanteE} "Come to think of it... when it happened... I'll be someone was scared."
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Nobles can do stuff like that. There are some limits, but I don't know what all of them are."
{DanteE} (would a GDiv Courage centered on back then tell us anything?)
{Brian} "Right. But there's no one Power whose /thing/ is that? 'cause that would be handy right now, instead of grasping at portions"
{Theresa} "Well, I can look into the past of plants, but dogs aren't my niche."
{Random_Nerd} (Yes it would.)
{Theresa} (I'd say Memory.)
{DanteE} "Hold on."
{Brian} (but it would show us sort of a "courage-map" yes?)

  • DanteE goes over and gently holds Mike’s head in his hands...

{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Screwing over veterans and dogs? If I had to guess, I'd say Joktan, but just because he's a dick."
{Random_Nerd} (Okay, tell me what you're looking for. A clear visual representation of the events around when Mike became... what he is now?)
{DanteE} GDiv Courage centered on that night.
{DanteE} (Yes.)
{Theresa} "If we got into a Noble/Imperator dick-measuring contest, we'd be here till the fifth Age."
{Brian} "Maybe that's the /cause/ of the fifth Age"
{Kite} "Joktan?"
{Theresa} (Scorn, I think?)
{Kite} (Oh, right. From the book?)
{Theresa} "I don't think that the Imperator of the Fifth Age will be the Angel of Dicks. For one thing, we don't even know if they have any."
{Ftiskrad} (lol)
{Random_Nerd} (Mike, a thirty-something mixed-race guy, is huddling up in an alley with a large dog that looks like how Mike looks now. Both of them are shivering, but Mike's also turning blue. Mike has a faintly-visible gleam over his head. Mike's shivering is slowing down, now, but his color is getting worse.)
{Random_Nerd} (Tyler, the dog, stands up, shakes his whole body. He shivers, and licks Mike's face. You can see fear in his doggy eyes. Then he closes his eyes, cranes his head away, and slashes his own chest open, the way the bulldog dig.)
{Theresa} (  :( )
{DanteE} (Hm... dogs don't do that...)
{Random_Nerd} (Mike, about two-thirds dead of hypothermia, and almost incoherent, crawls inside the still-warm body of Tyler.)
{Ftiskrad} (how sad! Loyalty maybe?)
{Theresa} (That dog has watched Star Wars too often.)
{Brian} (looked up Loyalty already. None)
{Random_Nerd} (There, he falls asleep. The next morning, he wakes up as a dog resting in a pile of blood-stained clothing.)
{Theresa} (Or Martyr.)
{Random_Nerd} (And that's it.)
{Brian} (If there was a Miraculous Being there, they wouldn't show up, right?)
{DanteE} "... huh."
{Random_Nerd} (Only if Dante used Penetration, which I don't think he did.)
{Random_Nerd} (But he would be able to see the... the place that he couldn't see. He'd know that there was a gap.)
{DanteE} (No, just a base GDiv)
{Random_Nerd} (There isn't one, here.)
{DanteE} "That dog was more than a dog..."
{Kite} (Even if Martyrs isn't involved, she might be able to help.)
{Random_Nerd} (Oh, and you couldn't see Mike's emotions, even in the divination of Courage, only Tyler's. Mike had anchorlike immunity even then.)
{Brian} (isn't anchorlike immunity retroactive, anyway?)
{Random_Nerd} (Hmm. I don't think so... what do you mean?)
{DanteE} "... and you were more than human, Mike."
{DanteE} (Aw, crap, that should mean I didn't see anything, wouldn't it?)
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "I was just this guy. Another drunk who'd been in the war."
{Theresa} "Hmm...what if Mike is the relative of someone important? A genetic descendant or such?"
{Random_Nerd} (Well, such divinations allow you to see the /presence/ of someone with anchorlike immunity. Just not their internal state.)
{Brian} (I thought there's been cases where Anchors show their direct immunity in miracles of seeing-the-past?)
{Random_Nerd} (Only if they had that anchorlike immunity at that point in the past._
{Brian} (ok)
{Brian} "We should look up Martyrs I suppose. I mean, what's one more favor we owe?"
{DanteE} (Hm... what would it take to split them?)
{Random_Nerd} (You tell me what your plan is, I'll tell you if you think it could work.)
{Theresa} (I thought we were owed by Shadow's family?)
{Random_Nerd} (Martyrs isn't in Shadows' family.)
{Theresa} (Oh, wait, not the right family. Never mind me.)
{DanteE} (... LChange Courage to give them the power to do what they want to do anyway... Mike wants to be separate from the pack of dogs 'sustaining' him.)
{Kite} (She's in Night's family, yes? Night and Shadows. Easy confusion fodder.)
{Random_Nerd} (Hmm. You can't do that. He'd be immune to that miracle. You could do a Lesser Destruction of Courage to get the pack to abandon him, though.)
{Random_Nerd} (Correct.)
{DanteE} (Can we get a bead on what's causing the immunity?)
{Random_Nerd} (Maybe. How are you trying?)
{DanteE} (Well, we can examine it in Sight and Mythic, and maybe try a WitchHunt Rite)
{DanteE} (We know what Anchor links and divine heritage look like)
{Random_Nerd} (Okay. To the Sight, he has the dim gleam that indicates anchorlike immunity, but not the bright glow that indicates Nobility.)
{Random_Nerd} (Mythically, he's a large sad dog with a crown forcibly attached to his head.)
{Random_Nerd} (He does not seem to have been the target of a greater miracle recently, other than a greater divination by you.)
{DanteE} (aha... who attached it, and how?)
{Random_Nerd} (That's a question!)
{DanteE} (I'll examine the crown and bolts closely...)
{Brian} (how do we figure that out? Hm.)
{Theresa} (Since it's metaphorical metal, would Ftisk know?)
{Random_Nerd} (No. It's not in the Estate of Metal.)
{Ftiskrad} (machinery, sorry)
{DanteE} (And, come to think of it, we may be talking about separate incidents...)
{Ftiskrad} (uhm.. .I believe he had the crown because he is the "king" of this pack of dogs)
{Theresa} (That’s what I thought too.)
{DanteE} (right... the fusion predates that.)
{DanteE} (Power of Leadership, or Authority? Maybe just a Power of Pack Leaders?)
{Random_Nerd} You hear the sound of someone walking around outside, calling "Here, boy? Any dogs around here? Here, boy..."
{DanteE} (uhoh, hide the bulldog guts...)
{Random_Nerd} (It's a woman's voice, and from the sound, they're out on the street.)

  • Ftiskrad change into a Rottweiler

{Brian} (mew?)

  • Ftiskrad change into a Rottweiler

{Kite} (Is there a window?)

  • Ftiskrad stroll out to meet the guy

{Random_Nerd} (The windows are boarded over.)

  • Kite sighs.

{Random_Nerd} Ftisk, you see a woman in a grey suit, holding a flashlight and a steak, with a blanket over one arm.
{Random_Nerd} She looks at you, and says: "Are you the one that called?"

  • Ftiskrad approach the woman... "barf?"

{Theresa} (English, Ftisk.  :) )
{Random_Nerd} Woman In Suit: "I didn't get all the details, but the need was clear. Was it you?"

  • Ftiskrad rub against a leg

{Ftiskrad} (or is too cattish?)
{DanteE} "... she's talking to dogs. And talking about being called."
{Theresa} (Oh, wait, you're a rotti. Never mind.)
{Kite} (Too cattish)
{Ftiskrad} "uhm.. hi!"
{Random_Nerd} Woman: "Wait a moment. You're a noble! What kind of scheme is this?"

  • Theresa will poke a head out of the doorway. "We come in peace?"
  • Ftiskrad use the sight

{Random_Nerd} She reaches into her chest cavity, and pulls out a barbed whip.
{Random_Nerd} Then she looks at Theresa.
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Plants?"

  • DanteE looks...

{DanteE} "Martyrs?"
{Theresa} "Martyrs? Is this your work? We're sorry, Courage got a call."

  • Ftiskrad return to Conrad shape, flashing starts in weye and all

{Theresa} "And I must say, that's a great idea for not having a purse."
{Ftiskrad} eye even
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "There was a dog. It was dying. It wanted to make sure some other dog was taken care of."
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "I had the afternoon free."
{Theresa} "Same situation. Dog was very courageous, called for help for his pack."
{DanteE} "... come on in."
{Random_Nerd} She comes on in.

  • Ftiskrad follow

{Brian} "This is not a particularly good situation."
{Kite} "Hello."
{Ftiskrad} (I already meet martyr? I believe not)

  • DanteE tells Martyrs about Mike, including the results of his GDiv.

{Kite} "I wouldn't call it a particularly bad one, either."
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "That's messed up."
{Ftiskrad} "Yep"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "No, this isn't my doing."
{Theresa} "Martyrs, this is ...Conrad, Noble of Machinery and Data and his brother Kite, Noble of Assembly. They're from Chancel Vulcan."
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "I was human, back then."
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Ditto."
{DanteE} "Mike isn't quite an Anchor, but he's more than human."
{Random_Nerd} She turns to look at the other dogs huddling in the corner.
{Kite} "Pleased to meet you."
{Brian} "Can you do something about it? Help us figure out why at least?"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Hey! Free steak!"
{Random_Nerd} She tosses it to them.
{Theresa} (Maybe her predecessor?)
{Random_Nerd} It hardly even reaches the floor before it's devoured by many small dogs and one large one.
{Ftiskrad} "me too"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Okay, I think we're going to need more meat."
{DanteE} (send Sam out to the nearest butcher?_
{Kite} "Well, that's easy to come by. Most animals are made of it."
{Theresa} "Sam, can you please have a delivery from the nearest butcher?"
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "On it."
{Theresa} (Dante - jinx!)
{Ftiskrad} (can I use my gift on inanimate thing to give them a new body?)
{Random_Nerd} He jogs out the door.
{DanteE} "Delivering to an abandoned warehouse?"
{Random_Nerd} (No.)
{Ftiskrad} (ok)
{Random_Nerd} (Your Gift is built on a change of bodies, and so must be used on someone or something that already has what counts as a "body.")
{Ftiskrad} (oki)
{DanteE} (... could he give Mike 2 bodies?)
{Random_Nerd} (You could turn an insect into a cow, though, for instance.)
{Random_Nerd} (Mike has anchorlike immunity. He'd need a way around that.)
{Ftiskrad} eh, great idea!)
{Kite} (Would cars be included in this?)

  • Ftiskrad zap 3 fleas in 3 cows

{Theresa} "You have lived on a college campus for how long and haven't ever noticed that places will deliver to raves?"
{Random_Nerd} (Bodies? Hmm. I'd have to think about that.)

  • Ftiskrad lc a cow 'processing' machine

{Kite} (Don't crush the dogs!)
{Ftiskrad} being careful to not crush the dogs
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs waves at the cows. They nobly choose to walk into the processing machine for the good of others.
{Random_Nerd} The dogs set to work in earnest.
{DanteE} "Sam, come on back."
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs, to Ftisk: "I don't think we've been introduced. I'm the Viscountess of Martyrs."
{DanteE} "All right, let's figure this out...
{Random_Nerd} Sam comes back in, holding a phonebook.
{Ftiskrad} "Hi I'm Conr-.-- Ftisk-... Ftiskrand
{Ftiskrad} "
{Theresa} (I introduced them...)
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Okay, so if one of you has a phone, I can... hey, cows."
{Kite} (If cars were included, it could bring a whole new meaning to "Batcar")
{Ftiskrad} “please don’t mind the stars!"
{Ftiskrad} (lololololol at Kite)
{DanteE} "about 60 years ago, Mike is freezing in an alley, and his dog is devoted enough to do a tauntaun imitation to save his life.
{DanteE} "Somehow, they wind up fused.
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Best dog I ever had. And that's including the stray dog that pulled me out of that car wreck when I was a kid."

  • Ftiskrad whisper to Sam "Concurred on me.. what do you think if I add wings to your body?"

{Kite} "Tauntaun?"
{DanteE} "Sometime in the interim, he winds up...
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "I don't have a body, and I like it that way."
{DanteE} "Wait, a stray dog pulled you out of a wreck?"
{Ftiskrad} "Stray doc?"
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "When I was seventeen. Yeah."
{Brian} "wait."
{Kite} ....
{Ftiskrad} "This is a bit to bold of a coincidence .. for me a least"
{DanteE} "... two dogs do extraordinary things to save him. That's one hell of a coincidence."
{Kite} "What are your parents' names? Teenage crushes?"
{Theresa} *to Kite* "It's a movie reference. very large travelling animal. Human slits it open to survive a killing cold."
{Kite} "Oh!"
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Never knew my dad. My mom was named Rebecca. What does that have to do with anything?"

  • Ftiskrad add wing to Sam ... because he don't say no to the proposal...

{DanteE} (... Borgstrom? :) )
{Theresa} (Well, if that can't get you immunity in this game, what can?)
{Random_Nerd} The wings, with nothing to hold them up, fall to the ground.
{Brian} "yar. Sam, if Nobles have kids, what happens?"
{Ftiskrad} (Now is Jenna, Rebecca is outdated)
{DanteE} (Ftisk, he doesn't have a body, just looks like it.)
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Depends on the Noble."
{Ftiskrad} "damn!"
{Random_Nerd} (Well, he does have a body, for the purposes of the Gift.)
{Random_Nerd} (But it's not one that can have wings attached. It'd be like trying to duct-tape wings onto a lake.)
{Ftiskrad} (So if I change him to a more flash body the wings will attach? uhm.. /me rub hands)
{Random_Nerd} (But Bullwinkle, that trick never works!)
{Theresa} (But duct tape...)

  • Kite ignores Mike's question.

{Brian} "Anchorlike immunity?"
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Sure, sometimes."
{DanteE} "Rebecca Cook?"
{Ftiskrad} "Is someone famous?"
{Random_Nerd} Sam: "Not to me..."
{Kite} "Perhaps the absent father?"
{Brian} "Can we get a Data Div on that?"
{DanteE} "Ftisk, you should be able to get at least the birth certificate, which should have the father."
{Ftiskrad} "Ohh, rigth, Data div... uhm.."

  • Ftiskrad ld Data on That

{Ftiskrad} (all I can eat of this (Reb. Cook) buffet )
{Random_Nerd} (Michael Cook. Born 1919, North Carolina. Mother's Name: Rebecca Cook. Mother's Race: White. Father's Name: _______. Father's Race: Negro.)
{Kite} ...
{Ftiskrad} "uhm.. the birth cert. don't have the father name..."
{Kite} "Mike, do you know if your mother is still alive?"
{Ftiskrad} "bur say that he was born in 1919 and the father was of Negro race"
{Theresa} (Ooo, mixed race relationship at that time. )
{Ftiskrad} "Negro race?"
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "She's been dead for probably sixty, seventy years."
{Theresa} "African descent, Conrad."
{DanteE} "Has to be the father, then."
{Ftiskrad} "doh"
{Random_Nerd} (And with somewhat racially discriminatory undertones, particularly nowadays.)
{Ftiskrad} "like Amyrians relative?"
{DanteE} "That's assuming whatever makes Mike 'special' is part of why he's pack leader."
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "The other dogs won't say. They just say I'm in charge, except when I try to get them to not... well, you know."
{Theresa} "I think in the United States, that was the term for people of dark or black skin tone."
{DanteE} "Oh, wait. Ftisk, where was he born?"
{Random_Nerd} The dogs continue to eat, as if they've heard the thing about piranhas stripping a cow to the bone in under a minute and are trying to beat the record.
{Ftiskrad} "Dante, can you remove the courage from these dog.. .no wait a Change yes a change so they will never try the hack game to give him another body?"
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "You can do that?"
{Ftiskrad} "North Carolina"
{Ftiskrad} "in 1919"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "No. He isn't going to, at least."
{DanteE} "I can... but there's a chance that whoever set this up will try to...
{DanteE} "Huh?"
{Theresa} "If you do that, it defeats a martyr's death, Dante."
{Ftiskrad} "Well IF he came here we will take 2 pigeons with a stone!"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Look, if I walk into a bunch of brave people in front of you and made them into cowards, what'd you do?"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Hmm. Is it just these dogs? Or dogs in general?"
{DanteE} "Can Mike even be a Martyr if they won't let him die?"
{Kite} "They claim it's one of the rules of being a dog, to keep Mike Cook alive."
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Not him. Them."
{Kite} (Right? )
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Mike wants to kill himself to protect them, I'll give him all the help he needs. But if you want to make them stop offering themselves to save him... not happening, sorry."
{Ftiskrad} "right, they are _forced_ to self sacrifice"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Nope. They aren't."
{DanteE} "hm... been a while since I read Call of the Wild, but that doesn't sound right."
{Theresa} "True, they talked about 'bad dogs' that left the pack."
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "I'm the Power of Martyrs and a Power of the Dark, okay? I know this stuff. I know a voluntary suicide when I so much as drive by a place where one took place."
{DanteE} "Are the dogs' suicides really voluntary, though?"
{Kite} "Sounds like you have your metaphorical head on correctly. I like that."
{Ftiskrad} "Well, someone hacked their priorities scale. Is not voluntary for me"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "The most recent one was. If it'd been forced, I wouldn't have even heard it."
{Kite} "It looked voluntary to me."
{Kite} "He even agonized over the decision."

  • Ftiskrad roll eyes at Kite

{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Anyway, that dog isn't going to have died for nothing. We're fixing this, one way or the other. These dogs need to go somewhere safe and warm. How close is your Chancel to here?"
{DanteE} "Can you tell us who set this up, though?"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "I don't know."
{Theresa} "It's near enough. We brought a van."
{Brian} "Our Chancel is near to everything"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "I'm not good at long divinations."
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Okay. If you bring these dogs, and in particular Mike to your Chancel, and keep them safe there, I'll owe you a..."
{Random_Nerd} She seems to calculate.
{DanteE} (you could use a calculator... oh, divinations.)
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Shall we say a small favor, involving the use of time and mundane resources, but no particular power?"
{Ftiskrad} "What mean no particular power?"
{DanteE} "Well, wait. Mike wants to go, and he's ... well, he started out human. More so.
{Random_Nerd} (She has a lower Domain than Dante. She'd need to use a Deep miracle for a GDiv.)
{DanteE} "Wouldn't his willing sacrifice be more valuable than the dogs'?"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Hmm. The transformationists would have a field day over this. Mike, do you still self-identify as human?"
{Random_Nerd} Mike: "Dunno. Not really."
{DanteE} "He started human, though. The dogs didn't."
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "A martyr's a martyr, in my book. Dogs count."
{Kite} "I like twenty questions! Do you self-identify as a grotesque, undead monster?"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Kinda. Or was that aimed at him?"
{Kite} "Oh, him."
{Random_Nerd} Mike shrugs.
{DanteE} "Well... the dogs decisions are usually spur of the moment, while Mike has wanted to go for a long time."
{Kite} "That's not a very good yes or no answer..."
{DanteE} "Which means,
{Random_Nerd} German Shepherd: "They aren't, actually."
{Random_Nerd} Shepherd: "He'd been planning that for weeks."
{DanteE} "Letting him go would stop something that's acting against your Estate directly...
{Theresa} "Oh?" *to g. shepherd*
{Theresa} "Weeks?"
{DanteE} "While enabling the dogs to go their own way, which may lead back to you anyway."
{Random_Nerd} Shepherd: "Well, a week, at least. At least since the others ran off."
{DanteE} (That was to Martyrs.)
{Random_Nerd} Terrier: "Cowards."
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Well, on the one hand, this whole situation's set up pretty nicely as far as my estate goes. Except that they're running out. But on the other hand... the dog that was dying begged me to make sure that Mike was okay and nothing happened to him. So that's what I'm working on right now."
{Theresa} "And Dante, you would want to honor the courage of the bulldog, right?"
{DanteE} "That's not normal dog behavior. Dogs will usually pick a new alpha if they lose their old one."
{Random_Nerd} Shepherd: "We're /able/ to go away. Like a bunch of cathumping traitors. Just ain't gonna /do/ it."
{Random_Nerd} Terrier: "Yeah!"
{Kite} "That's quite admirable of you."
{Theresa} (Cathummping? Shameful.)
{Random_Nerd} Terrier: "We're /dogs/."
{Random_Nerd} Terrier: "It's in the rules."
{Kite} "While we're on the subject of what you are, do you have names?"
{Random_Nerd} Terrier: "Yeah! Here's mine!"
{Random_Nerd} The terrier urinates on a wall.
{DanteE} "Martyrs... what do you want in a Martyrdom?"
{Theresa} (Ah yes, a noble linage that one.)
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Has to be voluntary, has to be to accomplish something, has to be informed."
{DanteE} "I can't help but think Mike would be more able to accommodate you than the dogs would."

  • Kite checks the wall in Mythic.
  • Ftiskrad too

{Random_Nerd} The wall has a little sign that says "I was here! I'm a dog!" in the mythic.
{Ftiskrad} (nice)
{DanteE} "... Mike's death would definitely be informed. The dogs are acting on a weird twist of instinct."

  • Kite dabs a bit from his memo pad onto the wet spot on the wall.

{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Dante, I'm not a robot in Star Trek. You're not going to throw contradictions at me until I agree with you or explode."
{DanteE} "I'm not trying to.
{DanteE} "I was a psych student. My motivation is to end years of psychic pain on Mike's part."
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "What I want to do, right now, is go find some of those dogs that ran off."
{DanteE} "I've got it!"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "But they're not in my estate, so... what?"
{Kite} "This whole thing either sounds like the work of the Light or Hell."
{Brian} (totally unrelated: http://30.media.tumblr (dot) com/tumblr_l21giqYXJA1qbpk2ro1_500.jpg)
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "The Light doesn't care about dogs. And why Hell?"
{DanteE} "If we take over this dog pack, make us their alpha, then they'd probably be happy to throw themselves into whatever fight we start.
{Random_Nerd} She mutters: "The Light hardly even cares about /humans/..."
{Kite} "Well, the Light just to keep Mike alive. Hell, just for the hell of it...and the suffering."
{DanteE} "Which, considering the caliber of the enemies we make, would eventually turn them into Martyrs themselves."
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "I can see that, with Hell. The Light... even if they still considered Mike a human, they don't care about keeping /individuals/ alive."
{DanteE} "If you take Mike now, and we take the pack to become possible Martyrs later?"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs bends down next to the terrier: "If I told you to track down those dogs that ran off, could you do it?"
{Random_Nerd} Terrier: "Dunno!"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Before I decide what to do here, I want to know what's going on. I've got too many questions, right now."
{Random_Nerd} She looks around at all of you.
{DanteE} "So do we.
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "So, one of you heard a dog praying, and it got a whole family of Nobles here within the hour?"
{DanteE} "Want to find out what's happening and table the discussion of their fates for later?"
{Ftiskrad} *nod *nod*
{Kite} "And friends"
{Brian} "From our experience, a pray for help frequently involves a threat to reality."
{Kite} "Apparently, we're all rather close."
{Theresa} "We're kinda hyper at the moment, Martyrs. We've been running around a lot and just got beat up by some Warmains. This seemed...easier."
{Ftiskrad} "Hey, Warmain have _their_ reasons!"
{Ftiskrad} (Yes, I'm a bit touch on the W topic :-P )
{Ftiskrad} touchy even
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Speaking of which, I'd like to point out that there's a question I haven't asked you."
{Kite} "And so do you." *pats Ftiskrad*
{Theresa} "Do you know what tempering is?"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "I'm trying to figure out if I want to know the answer, before I do."
{DanteE} "Might as well ask."
{Kite} "It's just an elephant in the room, after all."
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "So, you an evil minion of destruction?"

  • Ftiskrad "came on..."

{Ftiskrad} "Not at the moment"
{Ftiskrad} moment
{Kite} ...
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Fair enough."
{DanteE} "Not deliberately. Which is probably scarier."

  • Ftiskrad giggle

{Ftiskrad} "Dante, Dante, oh, you are so cuute"
{Random_Nerd} (Let's call it a night pretty soon. I'm starting to get sleepy.)
{Random_Nerd} (Anything you guys want to do before we do?)
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Do any of you own dogs?"
{Kite} (Before Martyrs has a good reason to report us.)
{Ftiskrad} (ok for the star in the eye guy)
{Brian} "Nope"
{Brian} (fine by me)
{DanteE} "But, like I said, would you help us figure out what's going on, and we'll talk about their fates afterwards?"
{Ftiskrad} "deal Martyrs?"
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Yeah. Figure it out first, decide what to do later."
{Theresa} (I'm good.)
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Any of you have any plans?"
{DanteE} (Good place to stop.)
{Random_Nerd} Martyrs: "Because if you don't have any ideas, I'm off to see a dog about a man."
{DanteE} "Us? Plan? Are you kidding?"
{Random_Nerd} _____________STOP_____________________
{Kite} "My current mission is tagging along."
{Ftiskrad} "mine the same as Kite"
=-= Kite is now known as Verithe
=-= YOU are now known as Angelo
=-= Brian is now known as lazarus
=-= DanteE is now known as Knockwood
=-= Theresa is now known as BethE
{BethE} How long were you saving that last bit, dear?
{Random_Nerd} About seven seconds.
{Knockwood} another session where, technically, we didn't do much...
{lazarus} well, at least we have a way to go this time
{Random_Nerd} Well, you found out some stuff.
{Knockwood} That's true
{Angelo} was NOT an unproductive session!
{Knockwood} BTW Verithe, do you think we're kinda stepping over you?
{Verithe} Heavens, no!
{Random_Nerd} Oh, and yes, this plotline /does/ tie into the overarching plot. Honest.
{Angelo} (Dante, you do this question in 4 sessions in a row... :-P
{Knockwood} (Yeah, but not with everyone here)
{BethE} ("What overarching plot?" "The plot of the Nobilis game." "Which is?" "That would be telling.")
{Angelo} I reaaly want to see how that ties up
{lazarus} (alternately: "there's a plot?")
{Random_Nerd} Anything you guys have liked or disliked about this?
{Knockwood} so, Mike was Entropy's ex, and their breakup is what made him the bastard he is?
{lazarus} dislike: no idea on where to start looking for information. like: everything else.
{Angelo} all de despair and sadness and the screw up situation.
{BethE} Entropy's laws are older than Mike.
{Verithe} The maggots. I dislike maggots. But not enough to file an official complaint.
{Angelo} ah, is a beautiful twist that they are not human
{Knockwood} Yeah, there was a lot of 'what do we do what do we do what do we do....?!?"
{Angelo} s
{Random_Nerd} Yeah, this is more of a "What do we do about it?" situation than a "What's going on here?" one.
{BethE} We do specialize in miraculous hand-wringing.
{BethE} ( http://doglickingscreen.com/ )
{Random_Nerd} And this is designed for that!
{lazarus} our standard MO is to find out why and what's going on, and then figure out how to fix it.
{Verithe} "I'm more wondering if we even need to do anything about it."
{Knockwood} it's because we can't just beat the hell out of whatever the problem is.
{lazarus} like Brian said, once we know what's happened, we can fix it.

  • Verithe eats quotation marks.

{Knockwood} not yet, anyway
{Random_Nerd} First, you have to decide what fixing it would look like.
{Angelo} but now we have the flamingo in the neck (Martyrs)
{Random_Nerd} Then you can worry about how to do it.
{Random_Nerd} Did the introduction of Martyrs seem too force?
{Random_Nerd} Forced, rather.
{Verithe} It would look like Ftiskrad and Martyrs tangoing. Now what?
{Knockwood} I'm assuming we all like dogs, at least on some level?
{Angelo} no, not reaaly, the last dog was a true martyr
{Random_Nerd} Well, I'm more of a cat person, but dogs are pretty cool too.
{Random_Nerd} And you couldn't do this kind of story with cats.

  • Angelo are indifferent to dogs. Have a cat in house

{Knockwood} well, it does make sense in retrospect.
{Verithe} I'm not really a dog person, but I've met some really good ones and I wouldn't wish a dog harm.
{Knockwood} Then again, it means the dog managed to call 2 Nobles completely by accident...
{Random_Nerd} Yeah. That was a pretty cool dog.
{Angelo} not the same dog
{lazarus} I'm a cat person.
{Random_Nerd} And it wasn't really by accident.
{lazarus} and yeah, awesome dog.
{Random_Nerd} It didn't really know about Nobles, but it was trying to call on /something/.
{Knockwood} I think it was the same dog, wasn't it?
{lazarus} but I'm not sure that we need to solve this problem. Not all problems need a solution. At least it wasn't a solution, without a problem. Or it might've been.
{Angelo} Dante, the dog before this, Martyrs the last one?
{Random_Nerd} Both prayers were from the same dog.
{Knockwood} I was thinking the bulldog called both me & Martyrs.
{Random_Nerd} And both were out of the same sense of desperation.
{Random_Nerd} Knock is correct.
{Angelo} oh, epic fumble from my side!
{Knockwood} (Of course, now I want to look at both failblog and epicwinFTW.com... :) )
{Angelo} what?
{lazarus} anyway, gonna head off now. See you next week! (OH! there's a chorus bbq/party/singout thing next Thursday if it doesn't rain. Might not be here for the start of the session.)
{Random_Nerd} Anyway, good session, guys.
{Random_Nerd} See you next week.
{Knockwood} be sure to invite the local dogs, laz. :)
{Verithe} Take care!
