Dear Laura,

Hello!

I’ve probably already told you this (I would hope that I had, but my mind has a tendency to misplace things these days), but, if not, I wanted you to know that we have located Donal. Although I believe this communication to be quite secure, I figure I probably shouldn’t tell you the exact location until we have a chance to talk in person. He is in good health, but he is (sort of?) hiding from his enemies. I am unsure what steps to take to help extricate him from his situation. However, I don’t believe he is in any immediate danger, so I am taking a ‘wait and see’ approach. If you would like me to undertake a different tactic, please let me know.

I’m currently a bit adrift, as I can’t seem to locate Carl, and I decided that I probably shouldn’t continually be the third wheel in the company of my married friends! I’m writing this from the Seelie Court, while I wait to see someone for the first time in many months, so I’m a bit nervous. Since I do have free time on my hands, I’m staying in the vicinity of New York, so I should be available to act on any new information regarding Donal.

Alright, I (apparently) entered the rambling stage of my letter a little earlier than usual, so I will finish by noting that I’m sending along a book that I thought was pretty good (albeit not her best), Peril at End House. I had another that I wanted to give you, but it is (currently) botched up, and I need to go through another gate before I send it along.

Along those lines, if you enjoyed the first part of The Wealth of Nations, let me know. Economic theory isn’t for everyone, but, if nothing else, I thought it was a very interesting historical read (and even as an unemployed professor, sometimes I feel obligated to give gifts that are indistinguishable from homework!)

Your friend,

Redland Jack
