Imperial Families[edit]

This page contains notes on Imperial NPCs for the The Peony Chronicles campaign.

Toturi XII[edit]

The Sapphire Emperor, so-named because after the death of his wife, Shosuro Amika, he had 9000 sapphires adorn the Imperial Throne in her memory. Current Emperor, 40 years old. Although his hair is greying, he remains a handsome man, and has full faith in his Imperial Herald, Miya Shikan, who is his public representative. He has taken no concubines or wives since the death of Amika. He is believed to be a compassionate man.

Toturi Hatsu[edit]

Known as "The Twins" alongside his brother (Toturi Kobashi), the eldest children of the emperor. Hatsu is now 20, and was fostered with the Kakita family, training in their dojo. Handsome and charming, he travels Rokugan extensively, almost always with his twin brother, who he regards with great affection. One of the most sought-after bachelors in Rokugan.

Toturi Kobashi[edit]

Known as "The Twins" alongside his brother (Toturi Hatsu), the eldest children of the emperor. Kobashi is now 20, and was fostered with the Akodo family. Like Hatsu, he is handsome and charming, and has no lack of samurai-ko who would be his wife. He travels extensively with his twin brother.

Toturi Yukihime[edit]

Known as "The Princess", Yukihime is the eldest daughter of the emperor. She is 19 and trained with the Otomo family. The most sophisticated (if not the most beautiful) of the emperor's daughters, she is currently being courted avidly by almost a dozen suitors.

Toturi Maihime[edit]

Known as "The Scholar", Maihime is 18, and has scoured the libraries of Rokugan, including those of the Ikoma and the Phoenix. She spends little time in the Court, despite being able to conduct a conversation on just about any subject thanks to her studies. Because of her rare appearance at court, few would recognize her, and she has had few suitors.

Toturi Gendo[edit]

Known as "The Monk", Gendo is 17 and is said to have been a sickly child, prone to illness (some suggest epilepsy and strange visions plagued him). At the age of 13, his hair turned white overnight, and shortly afterward he announced he was renouncing his name and becoming a monk. His current whereabouts are unknown save to a select few in the Brotherhood of Shinsei.

Toturi Hisako[edit]

Known as "The Lovely Serpent", Hisako is without doubt the most beautiful of the emperor's daughters, taking after her mother in that respect. Only 16 years old, she has proved herself to be supremely willful - it was Hisako who decided that to honor her mother, she was going to foster with the Scorpion rather than with the mantis, who she was supposed to train with. She is a member of the Kyozou Theatre Troupe, a renowned and respected acting company, and is much sought after by suitors.

Toturi Hizatoru[edit]

Known as "The Rogue", Hizatoru is a boy of 15, fostered to the Mantis Clan in place of his sister Hisako. He is known to be mischievous and energetic, and fits in extremely well with his Mantis hosts. An enthusiastic sailor who has been seen in many ports, usually with his friend Yoritomo Ogawa, the sensei of Dojo Raiden.

Toturi Kobe[edit]

Known as "The Silent", Kobe is a young boy of 12, who has always been a reserved child, but who has not uttered a single word since the death of his mother. He is extremely close to his sister Chisa, but is remote with the rest of his family. He is due to be fostered with the Crab Clan soon.

Toturi Chisa[edit]

Known as "Chisa-chan", the youngest of the emperor's children at seven years old. She is the darling of the court, constantly pampered by courtiers, and especially by elegant ladies who wish to win her father's heart.

Otomo Norito[edit]

The Otomo family daimyo, and a noted poet. Only 28 years old, it is rumored that the best and latest pillow books were written by him under assumed names. He has not been seen in public much, since he has always suffered from a variety of ailments, though he has recently become engaged to a Unicorn woman. Several courtiers have been said to have been accepting bets on whether he survives his wedding night.

Seppun Munemori[edit]

At 36, Munemori is the daimyo of the Seppun family, and has been for nearly 15 years. He is also the general of the Imperial Legions, but is said to concern himself with bureaucratic minutiae such as redesigning banners and uniforms, and has no military experience himself.

Miya Shikan[edit]

The Imperial Herald and daimyo of the Miya family. Shikan has single-handedly ensured that Rokugan has seen peace since he was elevated to this position, and is zealously committed to the observance of peace and harmony, some say no matter what the cost. he is 46, past the usual age for retirement, but he refuses to do so because of the importance of his position and the continued peace of the Empire. He is probably seen more in court than any other Imperial figure, including the emperor himself.
