The World Tree/Penur
Summary[edit]
Penur is known as the god of justice that holds the virtues of honor and dedication at its core. Penur is pictured as a large man with six arms, with no hair, and arcanic tattoos over all visible skin. Within the World Tree campaign, Penur is worshiped by paladins, guards, military figures, clerics, monks, fighters, and all other beings who hold the virtues of justice over all other things. In Ethir, he is the most commonly worshiped deity.
Origin[edit]
According to the ancient texts, Penur is the son of Althum, god of war, and Hasdum, goddess of healing. Althum, after conspiring with Lolth, swore an oath to the other deities that he would stop creating wars in the world if Hasdum would be his bride. The other deities rejoiced at the news and were wed within a ten-day. After consummating the marriage, Althum created a war that is said to have "shook the stars and earth" in violent terror. Upon hearing of this news, Ra-Orn turned the armies into powerful elemental titans and banished them deep into the earth, ocean, and sky. Hasdum, ashamed of her deceit, hid within an active volcano and gave birth to Penur.
From the day he was born, Penur vowed to help the people of the world by giving them the gift of virtue and conscience. At the dawning of human civilization, Penur gave pieces of his vow to the two leaders of the world, a philosopher and a warrior.
The philosopher became the first ruler of the known world, bringing law and order to the lands. His name lost to history, he is now known as Law and holds dominion over Penur's oath and tennants, paving the way for a new era.
The warrior became the first true paladin, fighting the forces of the Dark Three through insurmountable odds. Now only known as Courage, he holds dominion over Penur's vengeance and protection, roaming the land to give his gift to the ways of the world.
Clergy[edit]
Listed below is the current structure in society of worshipers of Penur
- Worship: prayer and self sacrifice of desire.
- Holidays: celebrated every solstice, with celebrations every new moon in smaller communities
- Event: the Festival of the Proud is based around honor and discipline in all things. Solstice celebrations include joyful music and dances and conclude with a solemn gratuitous prayer to Penur.
- Members: usually soldiers turned from combat, members can be anyone willing to take the oaths of Penur in front of witnesses.
- Divine Interaction: Penur rarely interacts with the Material Plane, with only one account in history of his actual appearance. Law intervenes in the hearts of those on the frontier or the good of members of tribes without order. Courage is the most active of the three, helping those who face destruction without his aid.
