Almost identical tradition, free exchange of members and a shared high shaman almost make the two tribes one. It's a joke among their Gnomish neighbors that the [[Mousling]]s insist on being separate only so they could have someone to compete with. Every festival includes a competition in wit and dexterity between the two tribes, the high event being a contest in marksmanship between each tribe's marksman.

The two tribes both own a ballista, a 8 year old gift from their bottom dwelling neighbors. Each village has it's ballista team, consisting of two 'loaders', one 'eyes' and, a title of great respect, the Marksman. The gnomes claim the ballistas are capable of killing an ogre with one shot. For years the mouslings are awaiting an opportunity to test this. This grew into a years long bet for honor between the two tribes.

The tribe of gnomes lives in burrows around Mal'rock. These burrow are often dug directly under the roots for for sturdiness and extra protection. The dirt walls are covered with pebbles and florescent shells. The surface is also dotted by a few buildings that need large furnaces, like workshops, labs and distilleries. Underground they would use too much air and make too much smoke.

Wherein the surrounding land is devoured by the waters, the Trees' roots allow for an area higher and drier land. Here a tribe of gnomes dug their burrows centuries ago, and mouslings made a home out of the thick branches.
