General: While similar to Earth, this is a completely different world. There may be similarities, but I reserve the right to jam the cultural equivalent of China and Japan together and drop them into a pseudo-Greek mythological framework if I darn well want to. Technological level is near-future Sci-Fi, with some kind of clean energy replacing oil and coal. I'm vaguely tempted to just call them Mako generators. There are no widespread hovercars or laser rifles, though many controls are now touch-screen or even holographic. The world is recovering from a recent large-scale war, in which large sections of the continent were laid to waste. Olympus has risen to prominence since the cessation of hostilities.

Spiritual monsters are not unknown. Largely consisting of beings similar to low-scale Hollows from Bleach, spiritually aware humans can interact and even bind them. Theories vary widely as to their purpose and origin. Some claim that they are demons, others that they are Gaia's manifested wrath against presumptuous humans. They are difficult to study, as they disappear as soon as they are killed, and spiritually-aware instruments are still more a concept than reality.

Olympus: City-paradise defying the barbarism and chaos outside its gates. The government is made up of a number of semi-autonomous Noble Houses named after the Greek gods and ruled by a council of representatives known as The Areopagus. Each Noble House appoints an Archon. Originally the Noble Houses were founded by a group of mystical heroes credited with incredible feats and many consider them to have been at least touched by divinity.

Olympus is built on a mountain, naturally. It sprawls down the side and onto the plain below. There is a river feeding through it, and somewhere in the near distance is the ocean. I'll probably be introducing all manner of climates and vegetation in the area depending on what will look cool.

Culturally, individuality is discouraged. Most of the populace is content to go about their business in their small section of the world and doesn't look too kindly on people that threaten that stability. Of course, this kind of system either needs a government ready and able to crack down on troublemakers, or an outlet for those unable to fit in otherwise. Olympus of course has both. Registration as a member of the Wulin is fairly straightforward, and doesn't even require the spiritual enlightenment an intense study of martial arts usually brings. The Wulin are considered a separate caste, and as long as they limit the amount of instability they cause to the rest of the population are mostly overlooked. You also give up most of the protections that the average citizen enjoys. If you want to join the ranks of predators, you can't really complain if you get bitten every now and then.
