The Village Pond

Amidst the huts and crofts of the village sits the pond. It is about 100 feet across, and one to three feet deep. The pond is green, small and stagnant in high summer; dark and rimmed with greenery in spring and fall; or frozen into a rough surface in winter. Except in winter, ducks, herons and insects dwell here; the bottom is a mucky mess, even by medieval standards. The banks are thick with mud and weeds; the prints of people and animals are always present.

A thin trickle of water leads into the pond from the village green except in high summer; another trickle leads through the wright's croft to the Ive.

Village children chase the ducks here in warm weather, and the hayward -NAME LATER- comes by here to retrieve stray livestock at times.
