Saint Carmund[edit]

Saint Carmund is one of the older saints. His symbol is two clasped hands. The stories of Saint Carmund tell particularly of various miracles of healing, a story of miraculously driving vermin out of a house, and the finding and punishing a witch who was cursing a town. He had a passion for cleanliness and his tenets are well known -- "Service to thy lord is service to the High Lord. Thou shalt not suffer a rat to live. The blessings of god will be shriven from the unclean."

The priests of Saint Carmund have been supported by the nobility of Alvatia for some years, but his order has come in particular prominence in recent years as they appear to have kept Alvatia free from the Great Pox that has decimated the mainland.

Churches and shrines dedicated to Saint Carmund are known to reward laymen with money for the skin of a dead rat.

More recently, the Priests of Saint Carmund have taken to quite strong opposition to any form of magic except their own. Politically this has made them less popular in urban areas, howewer, their efforts have quite successfully driven the 'hedge magics' in more rural areas completely underground.
