APPEARANCE[edit]

In civilian life, Akira appears to be a young Asian man in his early thirties. Sporting average looks on an average frame and average height, there is very little to suggest that he is anything more than a mundane human being. This, of course, is a surprisingly effective camouflage, especially given that his key power, his telekinesis, is completely undetectable by any known means, which permits him the ability to influence events from a position of unassuming innocence.

In his powered identity, Akira dresses in a black and aqua armored jumpsuit, with a faceshield of polarizing glass covering his face. It's usually set to misrepresent his features so as to keep his normal identity secure.

BACKGROUND[edit]

Background checks of Akira's family suggest nothing which might indicate predisposition to mutant powers. Our records trace the beginnings of his powers to the end of the Civil War period, during which falling rubble dislodged by a pair of battling superheroes fell on him. Apparently, this stimulus was enough to awaken his dormant mutant powers, and he deflected it with a reflexive, unfocused telekinetic shield. However, as the conflict was on the fringes of the main battle, little attention was paid to it and Akira returned to anonymity.

However, when the Amnesty went out, Akira was one of the few new mutants to register himself, surprising his family. He asked to receive proper training to control his powers, and for several months he was temporarily attached to School for Gifted Youngsters. However, he declined to join them for personal reasons, instead choosing to remain on reserve attachment to the Florida Initiative. He lives with his family and aside from being on-call to respond to threats requiring the Initiative, he leads as ordinary a life as one could expect.

Psych evaluations suggest that Akira is strongly moral and willing to work under an established hierarchical system for the greater good. Appealing to his sense of righteousness could thus be a good way to control and motivate him. Counselors also report that Akira has a poor self-image, which reduce the likelihood of him going rogue. His poor social skills and lack of personal charisma point to a possible weakness versus honeypot techniques. Appropriate countermeasures should be developed.

(The first, and most instinctive power Akira developed, this barrier is a subconscious defense reflex that automatically activates to protect Akira, manifesting as a barely visible perimeter around him which bends energy beams around itelf and deflects ballistic projectiles with telekinetic force. SHIELD tests have revealed that this defense is effectively invulnerable to all forms of small arms fire in this manner, necessitating heavy antivehicle weaponry to begin to penetrate this formidable protection. With his typical flair for the dramatic, Akira likes to freeze bullets in mid-air, in the fashion of a popular movie series' protagonist.)

(The active use of telekinesis forms the core of Akira's abilities. The most basic application of this is brute force megakinesis, where Akira forgoes fine manipulation to simply lift, push, pull or crush everything within a 40 yard radius sphere with enough force to lift a 15 ton truck. As his SHIELD training progressed, Akira began developing better control over his power, showing the ability to focus his telekinesis on specific targets or manipulating everything in an area while leaving select targets untouchr]ed. The next stage came when he demonstrated the ability to safely and swiftly propel himself through the air at high subsonic speeds. Though his trainers believe Akira could have gone faster, his body could not withstand the stresses of the transonic barrier, even with his kinetic barrier. Recent progress reports suggest that his skill has improved to the point where he can perform multiple delicate tasks through the use of his telekinesis alone, with precision and accuracy approaching that of a machine.)

(This nifty little trick projects a circular field of mild telekinetic force around Akira. Since he can accurately perceive tactile feedback from contacts with solid objects, this effectively allows him to mentally map the entire area around him with impressive accuracy, regardless of ambient lighting conditions or other non-solid obstacles. Recently, however, he's added another wrinkle to the technique - the projected field now actually penetrates objects without causing any real harm to them, and by sampling the resultant telekinetic echoes, he can gather much more in-depth information about his surroundings, to the point he can read books and differentiate colors through glass in a pitch black room.)
